What happened to the idea it's up to a person to provide for themselves, after that it's their families responsibility, after that it falls to churches and other private charities.

Unfortunately, our society has failed to teach individual responsibility (it's always someone else's fault), and since those who grow up in poverty often stay in poverty, families are usually no help either. That brings us to the church, where God assigned the responsibility to help the poor. How many churches have ministries that are actually reaching out to the poor? Not many. So when the church is failing at its responsibility, the government steps in to take over.

He's the current governor of Indiana.

For those who don't have the time to read it, it contains a draft ending of Mitch Daniels's response to the State of the Union next week. In it, he says that due to the current field of candidates, he is reconsidering his decision to not run for the White House, and that if he receives 300,000 e-mails from around the nation urging him to run, he will consider entering the Presidential field. It was dropped off at their offices anonymously, so there is no way for them to guarantee its validity.

I lived in Indiana while attending college, and I saw some of the work he has done to turn the state around. I have disagreed with some of his decisions (but I'm sure I could say that of any politician.) However, he is saved, and I believe that one of the reasons he has been successful is because he has depended on God to guide his decision-making. When he ran for his first term as governor, he met with my former Pastor. He laid out the poor situation Indiana was in, and my Pastor asked him how he could fix it. He told him something like, "I don't know how to do it, and I know the only way to figure it out is to be in that book [pointing to a Bible] and on my knees." (That is not a direct quote; it is my best recollection of what was said in a sermon some time later.) I think he would make a great President (and be a definite improvement over our current one), but I also wonder if it is too late for someone to join the race.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

There are a lot of things I don't like about these bills, but I think the biggest problem with it has been ignored by the media. These bills completely turn our system of jurisprudence upside down. Nowhere in American history has the government (whether it is the courts or an executive agency) ever been given the power to declare someone guilty without a trial. That is exactly what this law allows them to do. They can shut down your domain on suspicion of piracy, and then you have to take it to court in order to prove your innocence and have your domain restored. You get no hearing, trial, or even notice before your domain is shut down, and then you must take the government to court (likely at your own expense, since you will be the plaintiff in the case) in order for it to be restored. No longer are you innocent until proven guilty, you are guilty until proven innocent.

There are plenty of other reasons to not like this bill, but that argument is the one that I cannot believe no one is talking about.

I was an active member here around five or six years ago, then I left to go to college and did not have internet. I'm back now, but since there's a lot of new people here I thought I would introduce myself again.

I grew up going to church and I made a profession of faith when I was five because I saw someone else do it, but as I grew older, I knew I was not saved but refused to actually pray for salvation. After a series of events, I finally gave in and trusted Christ at the age of 22. The following year, I graduated from a secular university and God called me to Bible college. I graduated from Bible College in May 2010 and have returned to my home church in Kentucky. I currently work in the bus ministry, fill in as a Sunday School teacher, sing in the choir, play in the orchestra, and try to help out my Pastor in whatever he needs.

I work as a school bus driver for a nearby public school district, and I have been spending my spare time trying to work with legislators in my own state and at the federal level to advance issues of freedom, especially religious freedom.

Ban John because I went away to Bible College, graduated, and this thread (and several others in this forum) are still going on!

We had our revival services starting yesterday! While on bus visitation Saturday, another man and I spent a lot of time talking with the parents of one of the teen girls that rides our bus. We invited them to the revival, and they came tonight! During the invitation, the girl's dad went forward and trusted Christ! Please pray that the family will keep coming to church.

Tomorrow is registration day where I am supposed to be paying the first payment on my tuition. Sometime this past weekend, someone got into my room and took the money that I had for my tuition. Please pray that God will provide the money so that I can register for school tomorrow.

My girlfriend is beginning a new job as a fourth grade teacher at a Christian School, and she is trying to come up with ideas to decorate her classroom. She is looking for something that would be appropriate for both boys and girls. Anyone have any ideas
