I highly recommend FBN Radio. In fact, I think someone on here mentioned it once upon a time ago. It has a good balance of sound preaching and conservative Christian music.

Also Old Fashioned Christian Music Radio. It's all music. I haven't listened to it in a while but liked it when I did.

Cliff Hanger reacted to John81 in Bible used as murder weapon?
I saw this story online the other day, but have not seen anything about it since. I've not seen or heard anything on TV or radio. When I saw the story online I wondered if perhaps they hadn't used the Bible to beat him in the head.
When the criminals aren't white the media protects them. Like the other day when the black man murdered the two white news people he had once worked with. He even stated he killed them because they were white and he hoped to start a race war. The media quickly turned away from those facts and began trying to make the story about gun violence and the need to restrict guns. And "fair and balanced" Fox News, they chose to drop that part of the story too and instead decided to focus on mental health.
That liberal loon and Fox News employee even stated the 2nd Amendment was the stupidest thing in the Constitution and should be abolished. That set the other talking heads with him off into their mantra about mental health.
No, nothing to see here, there is no Muslim war against the West and Christianity; there is no war of blacks against whites and police. The real danger is that Hulk Hogan was caught speaking racist comments because someone recorded a private conversation where he used that dreaded "N word" which most all blacks use, most all people of other races who spend much time with or around blacks, most all rap and hip-hop stars use and people of every race sing along with, and most Hollywood actors use or have used in their movies. Yep, it's Hulk Hogan who is the real danger to America and Fox News made sure they covered that story again today so we don't forget just how racist and evil white folks are.

Thanks for the response Alan. The purpose of my post was not to have it devolve into "Is it biblical to show patriotic videos in church?" and how some churches idolize country and flag. Just thought some people would like it. Shouldn't be surprised though, no wonder so many people stopped posting on this board. Oh well.

    Brethren,
Flying the flag of one's country, and other acts of honoring one's country, is in accordance to the biblical injuction found in Romans 13: 7, "Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour."
All of the churches that I attend are independent. The local church makes the decision to address the issue of how to obey Romans 13:7.
If the local church at Antioch made the decision to fly the national flag of the Roman Empire, (see the above post), in order to honor the Roman government, than that is their decision. Whether or not they did so does not affect me at all. In fact, I probably would; not sure though, as I was not there!
Flying the national flag (except if you are a Jehovah's Witness of course!), is not one bit at all connected with idolatry. If you read your Old Testament closely you will notice that all of the different tribes had their own flag, or, as they are called in the Bible: a standard, or an ensign or a banner.
In fact, it is a commandment from God Himself, for every tribe to have a ensign, or a flag. Every tribe was commanded to fly their own individual standard, or flag,
"And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, Every man of the children of Israel shall pitch by his own standard, with the ensign of their father's house: far off about the tabernacle of the congregration shall they pitch." Numbers 2:1 & 2
If you continue reading Numbers chapter 2 you will clearly see that every tribe had its own flag, or ensign, or standard. The design of the flag, or standard, or ensign, was left up to the individual tribe.
"We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the LORD fullfill all thy petitions." Psalm 20:5
In fact, if we have a desire to follow the example of David, we should set up our own banners, or flags, as we rejoice in the blessings of salvation. Therefore, my beloved brethren, the raising up of the flag of the United States of America (our your Government flag), in a church sanctuary is not political; it is a gesture of thankfulness to God above for His many physical and spiritual blessings given through the country one is a citizen of.
"We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the LORD fullfill all thy petitions." Psalm 20:5
    Alan

My Church played this during our morning service and I was shocked that I've never heard or seen this before (I consider myself a reasonably knowledgeable sports fan). It's sad but now I look at July 4th as a celebration of what our country USED to be, not what it is now.

Our church does decorate - and, honestly, it's beautiful, to me.  On the Sunday before Christmas Day, the kids in grades 3-6 present a 10 minute program that is saturated with the birth of Christ and why He came.  But after, we always have a message. Our church runs a lot of buses, and we do have a lot of family members who come to see their kids in the presentation.  And there've been several saved over the years.  Just as with a lot of things, we use the time of year as a tool to reach others for Christ.

People sing and say the same thing about trees in a forest, mountain ranges and beautiful sunsets. There is much to delight in but outside those who worship nature, most people delight in such in a healthy manner, not worshipful.

Cliff Hanger reacted to John81 in Left Behind: Not A "christian Movie." Not Even Close.
Suzy did bring up a good point in that the Bible is filled with stories and events that would make great  movies or even a TV series. However, since the lost don't understand the Bible, and those in Hollywood typically think ill of the Bible, whenever they touch a biblical account they can't leave it alone. Instead, they delete things, add things, tweak the story and use their great wisdom to make it all better for us. The actual fact is, the biblical stories have enough excitement and relevance they stand exceptionally well on their own and all the changes only serve to detract and diminish.

Imagine a movie or mini-series on the life of Elijah that was actually faithful to Scripture!

Unfortunately, even Christian filmmakers seem to follow a similar path to the worldly filmmakers. They may have more actual Bible in their movies but they can't seem to keep from leaving some out and adding their own stuff (I'm not talking about a little filler here and there to keep the movie flowing, but serious content stuff).

I watched a documentary on youtube not too long ago that was about a couple of Old Order Amish families who were considering leaving their church because they realized that the Bible required salvation to get to Heaven, not works. They were saying that the Amish are not allowed to read the English version but must read the German. However, many cannot read the German. So they are finding out the Truth from reading the English version. Here's the youtube video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtNXvE_rLoE

Cliff Hanger reacted to 2T3:16 in My Idea Of A Good Night Out
    Went out soulwinngin/visiting:
    (1) some people wouldn't talk at all (guy with black tatoos and no shirt said church people are hypocrites and pointed to a tatoo of a cross and said "this is my religion" and told us to go ... my partner talked to him for a while more)
    (2) found a house with old bus riders so the bus captain over that area will get an address with about 5 kids that the mother said used to come ... the mother wrote down the address phone and names of the kids
    (3) several dogs running around the middle of the street ... dogs everywhere
    (4) spoke with and prayed with some people
    (5) I told my parter there is "a spirit" on the street" ... he said "what spirit" (I thought "not the good kind" ... I just said to him "take the dogs for example ... everyone has dogs")
    (6) we still had 10 planned minutes after finishing the street and as we were discussing how we were going to spend the next 10 minutes a bicycler comes along and I waved her down with a tract
    (7) after about 10 minutes the bicycler trusted Jesus Christ as her Saviour right there in the street ... she warned us that the street we had just finished on was a bad street (it confirmed my thoughts) ... one saved, people talked to/tracts with the gospel given out, "lost" bus riders located ... a "possessed" street got visited with the gospel and prayer, a good night out

But if she really want to be a journalist, all she needs is an OBama bumper sticker, an AlGore glOBal warming video, The Communist Manifesto and a rainbow air freshener on her mirror and she'll be all set to anchor on MSNBC.

I live here in the Northeast and I just can't understand people's hate. if someone knocks on your door and offers you something, is it THAT hard to just say "No thank you"? Why do people have to be so nasty? I bet they wouldn't complain if I invited them to a party where everyone who showed up got a 50 dollar bill. Last fall my church had a Teen activity and my daughter (along with other church teens) went to a local high school to hand out flyers. She got spat at, name called and kids would take her flyer, stomp on it and throw it back in her face and laugh. What a wonderful world we live in today.

Well, seeing how we have members of our church now that has got saved because of this, baptized and they have been added as members of our church, it works in our area. Maybe I shouldn't have done this and let those souls go to hell just so Joseph Redgate would not be furious with me. I think NOT.

You are assuming that I don't use discretion when going door to door. You are letting your emotions getting to you and forming a decision before you ask me any questions about how I go doing this. The Word of God is offensive enough to some people, I do not need to add to that.

Edit to add: I do pray before I do this, and if the Lord is leading me, then I'm going to listen to Him rather than man.
  19. Thanks
Cliff Hanger reacted to John81 in Door To Door Soulwinning
Being furious is uncalled for. We have to remember that we are called to be a light on a hill, not under a basket. As well, we are to count it all joy when we suffer persecution for our faith in Christ. Admittedly that's not always easy to do, but with practice and trust in the Lord, His will is done and we will reap the benefits of our OBedience in this life and/or the next.

I had someone loosen the lug nuts on the back drivers side tire of my car nearly 30 years ago. I don't think it had anything to do with my faith in Christ, mostly just the fact those I think were responsible (never found out for sure) didn't like the town I was from. I was on a gravel road when they started coming loose and wondered why the car was fish tailing so much. I got it on home, which wasn't too far away, and when I checked each one of the lug nuts was at the edge and about to come off.

In any event, Bro Matt's idea is rather creative and according to his report it's at least successful in planting seeds where he's at. If the folks he spoke of are saved, they should want others to know of their faith in Christ; if they are unsaved, perhaps others speaking to them will bring them to a place where the Holy Ghost can bring them under conviction.

Unfortunately, his approach wouldn't work well here because pretty much everybody knows everybody else; who is and isn't a Christian, who does and doesn't go to church, who the "church people" are, etc. Here the neighbors would take one of us knocking on their door and asking about their neighbor as being nosey, intrusive and bothersome.

I will tell you one sure way of knowing you aren't welcome (well, other than the police coming after you!): a voice on the other side of the door says "I've got a gun aimed right atbthe door. Get off my porch before I pull the trigger." And if it happens in Gary, Indiana, you better believe you get off that porch!!!

Women only visit in Gary wth their husbands. It isn't safe otherise. When the man hollered that, I turned around as my hubby did, he grabbed me to make sure I was in front if him, and we got off that pirch - without a word.

But then there was the time we met BOB. Drunk as all get-out, but able to quote a lot of scripture. Turns out he was saved, but had been convinced he had committed the unpardonable sin against the Holy Ghost for questioning a woman Bible study teacher *yes, charismatic). He believed he was on his way to hell. God led us to him and these many years later, he's got his theology straight and he's serving the Lord. Had we not gone doorknocking, he likely would have died soon from the booze.

Two sides of the coin. BOB and others like him justify door knocking in my book.

Cliff Hanger reacted to HappyChristian in Door To Door Soulwinning
I disagree that knocking on someone's door is showing a lack of common respect. That, IMO, is carrrying it to the extreme. There are still people saved in that way - and if someone doesn't want a soulwinnere there, they'll say so. Sometimes rudely, sometimes politely. We've seen it both ways. If they tell us to leave, we apoligize for bothering them, thank them for their time and proceed to leave. In almost every case, they then are willing to take a tract to read later.

To compare Westboro to people out spreading the gospel is like comparing rotten apples to fresh oranges.

If a person doesn't want to go door mickibg, don't go. But don't knock (heh) those who do...

Cliff Hanger reacted to John81 in Why Do So Many Baptists...
That's right Swath, as clear as day the Holy Ghost directed me to use the KJB only and as soon as I did the Word was opened to me like never before. I also found that Scripture memorization became almost easy.

One thing I've noticed about many of those who denounce the KJB, they've never actually attempted to use a KJB. Most simply parrot the false sayings of others. Those who do claim to have read a KJB, when pressed, usually admit they just looked at a couple passages or read a tiny amount and gave up.

The fact that so many of these "any Bible will do" crowd really mean "any MV will do, but absolutely not the KJB" seems to indicate a coordinated effort against the KJB and thus satanic influence. Why, out of the literally scores of English versions out there today do these people only attack one, and that always being the KJB? I do believe this is Satan led and the ignorance (in it's true meaning) of so many Christians on this issue makes it easy for the old devil.

The dropping of the KJB and switching to one of the many weak MVs is one of the main reasons so many Baptist churches have gone astray. It's far easier to support or at least make an argument for aspects of feminism, homosexuality and many other points using an MV than it is with a KJB which is very clear on these things.

So following this logic.....we can go ahead and find six various and assorted gendered roommates, then adopt children together....and buy a house together.....and then get saved but say " Well, God understands we have to all stay together because of the money, and because the kids are too used to our sin"...... Because Christ died for us but it's too much to ask to sell the house and split custody of the kids and start over....sin has consequences.

If a man and a woman are living together they can get saved and fix it by getting married. Not so same gender....it's considered abomination. I didn't write it.....God did.....

For years the Church has been telling the world to repent, and warning them of the consequences of sin which is death.

On the other hand the world has been telling the homosexual that it's O.K. to be gay; it's a natural and normal feeling.
The world has also been telling them it is an alternate life-style. the world also gave them an alternate way of creating their own family, and said lets redefine marriage, lets redefine family.

in vitro fertilization made it possible for this redefined marriage to create this redefined family.

The result: two mothers and no father.

Thank you modern science for your contribution to this "situation" without your help none of this would be possible.

This "situation" was created by the world, not by the Church; it is not our responsibility to straighten out their predicament, or solve their prOBlems. it is of their own devices, and a result of bad decision making, they made their own choices.

They made the choice to live together for 12yrs.
They made the choice to get married.
They made the choice to have 3 children, without a father.

The Church is not responsible to answer for their situation, the world is.
Go ask the world to answer your questions and see what they say.

THIS IS AN ATTACK AND A PROVOCATION AGAINST THE CHURCH!
STOP ATTACKING AND PROVOKING THE CHURCH!

This is my advice to you...
You are being used by your friends to provoke and attack the Church, whether intentionally or unintentionally. My advice to you is to cut off your friendship with them, and stop taking their side. get away from them and be separate!

To them:  REPENT AND BELIEVE THE GOSPEL!
accept ye repent ye shall all likewise perish!
