  1. :loll: The Captain's Club set one of my husband's secular college teachers straight. She is a feminist to the core and is completely opposed to the generic usage of "he/him/his" when instructing a child. [Example: Give your child his test].

Anyhoooo, she loved to debate this topic instead of teaching like she should have and one day hubby asked her if man-eating sharks avoid women. She just stared at him and couldn't think of anything to say.

The Captain's Club joke behind all that was:

Why didn't the shark eat the woman at the beach? Because it was a man-eating shark!

  2. :uuhm:

The Captain's Club is not a radio drama! Adventures in Odyssey is a radio drama. The Captain's Club is just a fun time meant for kids in the afternoon after they get out of school and before supper.

Yes, we listen to it. And if we hear a particularly funny or clever joke, we will share it at supper. We listen to the Saturday morning lineup as well with our kids.

  3. Yes, we are off-topic but I thank you, Heartstrings, for making me dig.

I discovered that there are different words used for "foundation(s)" in the O.T.

    1. The word used in Job 38:4 and Isaiah 51:16 is the word that carries the idea of making plans. Think of an architectural meeting or the "founding of a country" or "he founded a new organization".

Job 38:4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

Isaiah 51:16 And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people.

doy yacad, yaw-sad'; a primitive root; to set (literally or figuratively); intensively, to found; reflexively, to sit down together, i.e. settle, consult:--appoint, take counsel, establish, (lay the, lay for a) found(-ation), instruct, lay, ordain, set,

  4. Yes. :smile There will be a new heaven and a new earth.

That verse you posted comes after this passage:

Isaiah 51:5 My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust.
6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

The N.T. bears this out as well:

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

  5. I started having palpitations after my 3rd child was born and continued until after my 4th child was born - about a year and a half to 2 years total. I had the whole workup done twice - results were negative. The doctors attributed it to hormones and stress. Sugar, caffeine and lack of enough water were definite triggers.

Nowadays, I don't get the palpitations unless I over-carb. I get headaches now if I don't drink enough water.

I have done what Annie suggested and have felt so much better! I just wish I could stick with it. haha

  6. Job 38:3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

    6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;

7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

8 Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

9 When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,

10 And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,

11 And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

Verses 4-6 are rhetorical questions. Where were you? Job has to say that he wasn't there. No one measured it, no one used a plumbline, no one laid a cornerstone and the earth is fastened on nothing. WHY? Because it was spoken into existence by the word of HIS power.

However, God does say that HE laid the foundations of the earth. That explains Genesis chapter 1 and why the earth was without form and void (shapeless and empty). The earth was there but did not have boundaried water or any dry land until later on in Creation week. So what was there? The foundations.

Did you shut up the sea with doors? Job has to answer no. However, God goes on to say that He did indeed set bars and doors (boundaries/barriers) so that the water would go no further (Verse 11).

It is an injustice to God's Word to devotionalize everything. Job 38 is clearly speaking of Creation; nothing else makes plain sense.

  7. Heartstrings, if you are so sure that the "sons of God" in Job 38 are believers rejoicing at the 'cornerstone which is Christ', then why was God asking Job where he was when that happened?

And when/where in history is this rejoicing going on that God was referring to from which Job was absent? Remember, God was speaking in past tense to Job...

  8. The Bible, in the Old Testament makes 4 references total (to my knowledge) to the "sons of God".

And all references in the NT refer to the redeemed.

I am quite confused with this. It is conjectured that these are angels by many. It is also said that the people of Genesis where Seth's children, etc. I would like to discuss this, simply to get a few opinions and reach a conclusion. Thanks!

Just to point out, Job 38 makes the 5th O.T. reference to "sons of God".

In the N.T. believers, Adam and Jesus are all referred to as sons, son or Son of God.
  9. Ah yes; this topic... :frog

I've mulled this over many times and here are some quick thoughts:

I see 4 different groups called "son" in the Bible. The context of the passage determines who/what is a son.

    1. Jesus is the only Begotten Son of God, meaning He was/is the only One that was born as a human with the full essence of God. He was fully human and fully God.

    2. Other beings have been called "sons of God" or "a son of God" w/o having divinity. To me, this means they are other intelligent beings that were directly created by God. Adam was directly created by God and was perfect in his original state. Adam is called the son of God in the Luke genealogy. All others humans are born in their natural state which is sin and are called children of Adam, sons of Belial, sons of darkness, etc.

Luke 3:38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.

    3. Angels are referred to as "sons of God" in Job 40. The context is Creation and God is asking Job where he was when all that took place.

Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

    4. Believers are called "sons/children of God". Once we have been redeemed, we are no longer children of Adam but of God. We become His sons. See the verses that Crushmaster posted.

The fighting starts with the Genesis passage. Is it referring to those who were believers in and followers of God or is it referring to angels who "left their first estate" as mentioned in Jude like Suzy mentioned? I'd say there are good arguments on both sides. However, if it is fallen angels, then they had to possess men in order to marry and bear children because we know that angels are genderless and cannot marry as Crushmaster pointed out. We can assume that either way, men were involved.

  10. Hubby wants to take me to Hawaii. He's been twice with the U.S. Navy. I would love to go there.

Internationally, I would like to visit Austria.

I would love to visit Israel but I know I would absolutely hate all the ornate Catholic monuments and shrines that are at nearly every Biblical place. :roll

  11. Yes. While there are plenty of differences between the MVs and the KJV, there are also plenty of verses that say the same thing. I'm sure the gospel is quite clear in the NIV or ESV or NASB and some of the others.

This is for example purposes only:

    From the ESV:

Romans 10:9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, ?Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.?
  12. I guess I have spring fever...

What are some dream vacations you would like to take someday?

I would like to go in with a few friends and family members and rent one of those beach houses on the Outer Banks in the early or late summer when there aren't crowds. The Outer Banks is chock-full of delightful places to go and things to see.

  13. PreacherBen, I agree with what you wrote. We are on a prophetic train ride and seeing the end nearer and nearer!

I expect the lost to behave like lost people but it bothers me when Christians promote, accept and encourage things like homosexual marriage, abortion, etc. because "the gov't isn't supposed to legislate morality". To me, that is accepting a secular worldview.

  14. I see. Thanks for sharing. I had no idea you had to buy your own rubber bands and plastic bags. Why wouldn't the newspaper provide those???

Where I live, we never even see the paper delivery person. I have no idea if they are male or female. The newspaper sends out a bill when renewal is due.
