  1. If you could name the 5 most significant events in church history, what would they be? Obviously Jesus' death, burial and resurrection are the most significant so let's start at Pentecost and move forward in time.

If you could name the 5 most significant events in Baptist history, what would they be?

  2. That you've ever heard of someone carrying in their purse??

I found out today that my Mom carries a basketball needle in her purse. :saywhat:

She says it is because my dad is such an avid ballplayer and always has a basketball in the trunk. She carries a needle in case the ball needs some air. :th_wellduh:

  3. Ditto! I hate snakes!! :runforhills: (And Bakers, I certainly would never be accused of wanting to get close enough to inspect its eyes to see if they're round or elliptical! No matter how curious I was in wanting to identify it.)

Well, I studied him from a distance long enough before approaching him. I'm not scared of snakes if I know ahead of time that they are not poisonous. All he wanted to do was get away. And judging by his size, he was very, very young.

BTW, our local library had a science exhibition yesterday which I took the kids to. They had a ball python (they're not venomous) there who was very cute and very curious. We all got to pet her, and since she has been handled by humans since she was hatched, she was very tame. The only precaution the lady gave was that if anyone there owned mice or gerbils, they shouldn't approach the snake because she would smell "lunch" on them and try to bite them.
  4. My son found him on our breezeway.

He was only about 12-18 inches long and was not aggressive at all. As I was poking him out the door with a long stick, I got a good look at one of his eyes, and it was round. I'm inclined to think he is a juvenile rat snake. Anyone know for sure?

The camera picked up his markings really well; from a distance, he just looked black.

  5. Well, Jesus' glorified body passed through closed doors so apparently glorified bodies are not subject to Earth's scientific laws. My belief is that Jesus was able to travel at the speed of thought and we will be able to also when we are like Him.

  6. The only way to avoid temptation is be chaperoned at all times. If the activities together are spent at church functions, then that should help.

Also, long engagements are not wise as sexual temptation is always present with someone you love. As long as they know they are God's will for each other and if it is doable, a couple should go ahead and get married. It is better to marry than to burn...

  7. Thank you for posting all this, Yankee Candle! Fascinating stuff to be sure. There are so many phenomena all over the world that can only be satisfactorily explained by a global flood.

BTW, it is nice to put a face with a name. Looks like you and your wife had a wonderful time. My mom and some friends spent time out west a couple of years ago and had a great time.

  8. 2 double posts and one correction... on my part? :puzzled:

I hope that BroMatt is re-wiring the board. Otherwise... I might think that Amadinajad and his people are on board. :lol

    God bless ~

I got rid of those for ya. Weird how that happens sometimes.
  9. Just curious if any of you listen to it and/or know someone who's story has been dramatized on the program?

For those of you who don't know what Unshackled is, it is a radio program that dramatizes true stories of people who have been saved from all sorts of backgrounds including drugs, alcohol, immorality, rebellion, etc.

BBN broadcasts one of the Unshackled programs every night and it is such a blessing to hear the testimonies of these folks! It is on now, hence the original question. :coffee

  10. If the FDA was truly concerned, they wouldn't have allowed the chemicals, preservatives and artificial substances into our foods. Those are the real culprits. I betcha LuAnne's Grandma grew up eating natural foods and hardly any commercially processed foods.

  11. What if someone believes it is ok for their child to look at pornography, or to not brush their teeth, or to go around infested with lice, or to have dangerous animals around their children . . . Parents don't know what's best in most cases and need to be told what to do. This is why we have laws, doctors and lawyers. I don't know who came up with the thought that just because they fathered or birthed a person, they know what is best for that person.

Excuse me??? A better statement would be, "Parents don't know what's best in some cases and need to be told what to do."

Most people have something called "common sense". It is knowledge that is common to most people. Common sense tells parents that it is not ok for their child to look at pornography, it is not ok to not brush teeth, it is not ok to go around infested with lice, it is not ok to have dangerous animals around their children.

Some parents do need help but not most. I/we, do not need more laws from people who do not know me/us or my/our life situation but feel they know what is best. God gave my children to my husband and me, not the state.
  12. I believe this particular videotape is the one that belongs to the border patrol. Anderson has a lawyer now so he demanded it be released.

I believe the police did use excessive force. They are not required to squish someone's face into broken glass; they are not required to taze repeatedly. BUT, Anderson brought this on himself.

  13. You have to know the history of this guy. This isn't the first incident. He has repeatedly refused to be searched at these checkpoints many times in the past, citing his constitutional right to not be searched without a warrant. He has won the argument all the previous times even though it would take hours sometimes. This time he didn't win.

If anyone cares, the FFF is ablaze with this guy's antics. Just do a search on his name. You can also view and read about this latest incident on Anderson's wife's blog: http://stevenandersonfamily.blogspot.com/ His wife is just as controversial as he is.

  14. This is really bugging me. :bonk: I can't remember the name of a study Bible/study aid I am looking for. I saw one years ago in a pastor's study.

Basically, it is a side by side (or maybe over-under?) style with the text on one side and a list of other ways a particular word could be translated on the other side. Does anyone know what I'm talking about or was that clear as mud?
