  1. What's very interesting to me is this: if you want Fox news from your TV provider, you have to buy a bigger package. It was that way for us when we had Charter and it's the same now with Dish Network. You don't usually see Fox in the lower, cheaper packages. The cable/satellite providers know that lots of people WILL pay extra to get Fox. (just like we did - LOL)
    The president is going after the most popular news network and it might just bite him in the end.

  2. They are referring to the incident that happened several weeks ago between a black Harvard scholar (Henry Gates) and a white police officer (Sergeant James Crowley). Sgt. Crowley was responding to a 911 call saying that "someone was breaking into a home" - and the home happened to be Mr. Gates' home. Here is a link to a news article about it.

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/07/28/professor-officer-expected-meet-president-beer-thursday/

    It erupted into a national scandal and President Obama invited both men to the White House to "have a beer" and discuss the issue.

    Hope this helps!

  3. That you've ever heard of someone carrying in their purse??

    I found out today that my Mom carries a basketball needle in her purse. :saywhat:

    She says it is because my dad is such an avid ballplayer and always has a basketball in the trunk. She carries a needle in case the ball needs some air. :th_wellduh:

    LOL - I had forgotten all about that....
  4. My husband and I eloped - spent roughly $50 on the license and justice of the peace and I forget how much on a nice steak dinner afterwards. Here we are 14 years later still happily married! :lol

  5. 49.And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all ,
    50.Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
    51.And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
    52.And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad .
    53.Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death .John 11:49-53

    Here we see an example of an unsaved Pharisee prophesying - God speaking through an unsaved person.

    39.And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.
    40.And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace , the stones would immediately cry out .Luke 19:39-40

    And an example of Jesus saying rocks would praise Him audibly if His disciples did not.
    Hope this helps!

  6. I especially love verse 3...

    CHILDREN OF THE HEAVENLY FATHER

    Children of the heav?nly Father
    Safely in His bosom gather;
    Nestling bird nor star in Heaven
    Such a refuge e?er was given.

    God His own doth tend and nourish;
    In His holy courts they flourish;
    From all evil things He spares them;
    In His mighty arms He bears them.

    Neither life nor death shall ever
    From the Lord His children sever;
    Unto them His grace He showeth,
    And their sorrows all He knoweth.

    Though He giveth or He taketh,
    God His children ne?er forsaketh;
    His the loving purpose solely
    To preserve them pure and holy.

    Lo, their very hairs He numbers,
    And no daily care encumbers
    Them that share His ev?ry blessing
    And His help in woes distressing.

    Praise the Lord in joyful numbers:
    Your Protector never slumbers.
    At the will of your Defender
    Ev?ry foeman must surrender.

  7. The women in the Bible listed as barren never "accepted" it - they prayed and cried about it. (and when Hannah was praying and weeping before the Lord, the man of God was clueless about what she was doing and feeling until she set him straight.) Rachel did something about her barrenness - she ate mandrakes (whatever they are!) Rebekkah was barren for almost 20 years and she had Isaac pray to the Lord. These women didn't passively do nothing - they did something!
    I'm not trying to say that giving the Biblical view (or at least your interpretation of the Biblical view) is wrong - I'm just saying that telling them to "accept" their situation is not what they need to hear right then. I'm sure that LAF and others in her situation have tried to accept it, then accepted it, then saw a newborn in a cute little stroller and un-accepted it all over again. They don't need lecturing - they don't need to hear pontificating on someone's interpretation of the Bible, they need sympathy and prayer. A simple "I'm sure it's tough for you" or perhaps a "I'm praying for you, my sister" would be all the encouragement they need. If I were in LAF's shoes I sure wouldn't want to hear "get over it and move on."
