I appreciate the review. Sorry to here about your wife's struggles with CCM. We will pray that she gains the victory. I have been told privately by a friend of mine that I should watch my back over some of the things that I said in the book. It seems that I upset a few people because I named specific churches, specific people, and specific incidents. One of those churches is in the town that we live in and it seems that I caused quite a stir in that church. Oh well. That's life.

I am going to say something that may not be popular but it needs to be said. I used to give all kinds of excuses for not having an online filter. About 7 years ago I finally saw how stupid I was. As far as I am concerned if you don't use an online filter then you are inviting the devil and all his satanic forces into your home. I will even go so far as to say that you are a fool. If a certain website gets blocked, so what! There are always workarounds. No filter is perfect but it is better than nothing!

    Dear Friends,

I have completed the final proofreading of my book. The final draft is now available for downloading: http://www.pioneerbaptist.org/booklet/music.pdf

I apologize for the wait and jumping the gun. I should have waited until the proofreading was done before I posted this download. I apologize once again for not making sure that everything is as it should be before making this publicly available.

The printed copies will be made from the updated PDF file. I am self-publishing this book using the comb binding method. The books will be printed as needed, so you will receive a copy of the final draft. I am using a Canon laser printer (model D320) to do the printing. The front cover picture will be printed using gray scale rather than color. It may not be professional but it is high quality printing and binding.

I need clarification. The title suggests that you drink wine on a regular basis. So please clarify. Are you a drinker of wine on a regular basis? Or are you an occasional drinker of wine? Or are you a former drinker of wine (meaning that you no longer drink wine)?

I used the word "unbiblical" because the majority of independent fundamental Baptist preachers have this idea that you are sinning if you don't go out knocking on doors. I wouldn't necessarily say that door-to-door "soul winning" is wrong but I do believe that it is a bad substitute for how we are supposed to be witnessing. Another bad substitute is the bus ministry. These things become an end unto themselves. A Christian may have a bad testimony at work or never witness to his neighbours or co-workers. But if he goes out door knocking or works on a bus route then he gets the false assurance that he is being a good witness for Christ. Living a consistent Christian life before the world and then giving a verbal witness as opportunities arise is not only the best way of soul-winning but it is the Biblical way.

I may be considered a heretic when I say this but I believe that door-to-door "soul-winning" is a very ineffective method of witnessing (and I might add that it is not Biblical). You heard me right: I believe that there is no Biblical basis for door-to-door "soul-winning." The only verse that even comes close to being a proof-text for it is Acts 20:20 - "And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house," The only problem is that this verse applies to home Bible studies, not to witnessing.

Here are the verses that we should be using: Luke 24:13-15 - "And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.  And they talked together of all these things which had happened.  And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them." As we travel in this life we are to talk publicly of the things of God to one another and to those that cross our paths. This is the most effective way of witnessing.

A little food for thought when it comes to the effectiveness of door-to-door "soul-winning":

Any salesman worth his salt can get results. Spiritual results, however, are accomplished through spiritual methods. Back in the summers of 1981 and 1982 I was trained on how to get "results" at the door. The method is akin to high pressure sales. However, the end does not justify the means.

How do you know whether or not you are saved?

    1. The witness of the Holy Spirit Romans 8:16
    2. The presence of the Holy Spirit Romans 8:9
    3. The witness of the word of God 1 John 5:9
    4. The witness of others 1 John 1:7, 5:8,9
    5. The witness within ourselves 1 John 5:10
    6. The witness of our own conscience. Romans 2:15

What are these witnesses telling you?

1 John 5:11-13, "And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."

I believe that true salvation brings assurance with it. Nobody is able to give anybody assurance of their salvation. Being tormented with doubts is a very good indication that the person was never saved in the first place. Or maybe the person is just backslidden.

Hebrews 6:1 - "Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,"

I will give my response as a personal illustration:

I was a Christian school teacher from 1980-1984 and 1987-1990. I taught in the same school both times. In the summer of 1988 the church building (which housed the Christian school) burned down. For the 1988-1989 school year we used the facilities of another church about 10 miles away. In the meantime the church bought land and started the rebuilding process. In the summer of 1989 the church and Christian school moved into the new facilities. The new facilities were heated with an outside wood burning furnace that circulated water through pipes that were installed in the concrete floor.

From 1980-1983 I served the church as a single man (we got married in June 1983). The reason why I quit in 1984 was because of spiritual struugles that I was having. I ended up joining the Army and in Feb 1986 I realized I was lost and needed to be saved. I was discharged from the Army in Dec 1986. In June 1987 we move back to the same town where I accepted the teaching position once again. As a new Christian I was very zealous for the Lord's work and for 3 years I strived to please God and man.

The pastor of the church required that I take on extra duties during the school year (especially during the rebuilding time). I had to work a part-time job besides since the pay was low and we had some bills to catch up on (I did this for a little over a year - I quit the job due to burnout). In the summer time I had to work a full time secular job to take care of my growing family. I was also expected to help with the rebuilding of the church and when the new church building was opened I was expected to fire the furnace at 5:00 AM and keep it going throughout the day and to make sure it was filled with wood before I went to bed.

In 1990 (not sure of the month) I was hospitalized for 5 days and diagnosed with kidney stones. The attack came on one morning as I was putting wood in the furnace. the doctor told me that it was stress related. After I was released from the hospital I was expected to resume all of my duties immediately.

In the spring of 1990 I informed the pastor that I would be resigning at the end of the school year. Around that time, the church was having their annual business meeting and I had been nominated to be a deacon but when the church found out that I was resigning from the school then practically everyone voted against me. After that incident I was accused by the pastor of being bitter. We left the church a few months later. It wasn't bitterness. It was burnout and being disgusted with the way things were.
