No I wasn't complaining it was short....he wrote back immediately which is actually commendable....I was saying I felt he was talking down to my husband, saying that he should be reading more of his literature and that he needed to be more informed and things...I don't even remember it all, but it wasn't the length of the email but the content, I guess.

We love that about him! If he's praying about his preaching meetings, who are we to say he's wrong? Everything about him shows fruit of him being a man of God. And I get tired of people feeling like they have to pick and choose a "camp" to be part of, and then people from one "camp" sneer at people from the other "camp" and its just crazy. "I am of Paul...I am of Apollos.....I am of Christ."

The pastor I'm referring to just follows God....not men.

Anxious to see your Scripture. My gut says that your own pastor should be involved (Paul did a lot of warning, but he himself planted or helped plant most of the churches he wrote to, therefore he counted as a pastor).

I can't see how emailing thousands of pastors and "warning" about other pastors that you personally disagree with can be quite what God had in mind.

I guess because this thread isn't being sent out to thousands of pastors' inboxes with names mentioned of pastors that they are supposed to "beware" of....

    But...reprimand duly accepted.

My husband got an article today, something about David Cloud complaining that all preachers associated with the Sword of the Lord are going to be the new "emerging church" and he called out everyone who preached there by name, one of whom, at least, we know personally as a separated, fundamental Baptist pastor who simply does not "choose camps" but holds his own tight line of separation between himself and the world, and has a very sound, strong IFB church.

It seems like David Cloud is getting more and more and MORE negative....does he even LIKE any pastors out there anymore? Seriously...I understand the need to warn your sheep about the wolves but some of his stuff today is nearing the hypercritical gossip that the New Testament condemns....????

Hebrews 11:7--By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

I agree with PastorJ. I'm fine with holidays but Halloween is directly involved with demonic things.

I have been pretty sad to see all the businesses who have added a rainbow to their logo and friends who have added a rainbow to their Facebook profile.  Even the White House added a rainbow.   So much has changed since he 80s and I remember asking my Dad what AIDS was, and why it was in the news.
Religious freedom has been restricted already but it will be gone soon.  The dissenting justices even said as much.

Sorry can't help you in the Northwest, but I would be able to help in the Northeast. My wife and I also will be starting a church, but in the Northeast.

Now you just gotta talk my hubby into it. ;-) No really, I was raised that way, and then got changed at Fairhaven (which FYI is probably stricter than any other college with dress) and over the years of looking into the topic and talking about it with others, have come to the conclusion I was raised the right way.

Of course, to do as my hub says is safe...its not WRONG to wear skirts and dresses. So, its not like I'm living wrong. It would be nice to be able to wear loose pants to work in, but one of those things. My friend who wears pants points out that she's seen a lot more of my legs than I've seen of hers LOL but then my husband countered back (for my ears only) that he's seen a lot more of her butt (not purposely) than her husband's seen of mine. haha.

Modesty is always right, I guess....

Many people thought the rapture was near during the world wars.....also during the Great Depression....and of course all the way during Nero's time it certainly must have felt like the end of the world.

Of course Jesus very well may come tomorrow......but sometimes we in America think things are bad when things have been bad worldwide for centuries.

My two biggest hints are how close we are to human microchip technology (mark of the beast) and the developments in Israel.

I have to respectfully disagree....because unfortunately people do NOT understand about Creation.  Christians today have no clue about how to refute the Gap Theory or Theistic evolution.  Yet so much hinges on these beliefs.

Racism began with the theory of evolution.....the entire premise of our world revolves around Creation.   Our origins...races....everything.  Of course, I am a Science teacher by nature (and by degree, but not currently teaching) and my dad is also a self made geologist and does Creation classes at times as well, so to me this is a very important thing.   People are absolutely ignorant these days about the true Creation science.   They don't know how to counter the Ice Age or how to explain the Mammoths.  They don't know how important the Great Flood was in light of science today.

It is an entire study that most pastors aren't equipped to teach, or just do not.

    I think it's necessary, personally.

Who is David Cloud's primary audience?  Is it pastors, or laypeople?

If pastors, the pastors should be able to figure out what organizations are okay based on doctrine alone.

If laypeople, then it isn't David Cloud's jOB to name names...it's their pastor's jOB to name what names God would have him name.

Ken Ham doesn't claim to be IFB. I don't see any point in trying to hold him to IFB standards. Everyone knows that is a new evangelical ministry - and a very good one, as those go - take it or leave it, as you choose.

This business about having to have a written statement against Billy Graham seems rather extreme. I would hope that a good IFB church would warn against him - but having it in the doctrinal statement? I think it would be better to remind people of the principles involved in separation rather than trying to dictate a particular form of the exercise thereof.

My husband preaches against Billy Graham as a side note when speaking of heretics but I didn't know it was a required doctrinal statement...kwim?

Anon got a reaction from HappyChristian in When Is A Non-Baptist A Baptist?
There are a few churches that sort of follow a man instead of a denomination...I think those would be the "baptistic" ones which I agree, that's silly.

Ruckmanite and Hyles type churches come to mind, particularly the "Bible" churches.

Anon got a reaction from Covenanter in David Cloud
What's with David Cloud these days?   I used to really like him, but now I feel like he is causing more division than anything else. The passage in the Bible that says "I am of Paul, I am of Cephus, I am of Christ" seems like what he is doing.   He is going around saying bad things about anyone who doesn't fit into the perfect definition of the perfect IFB church.

His latest attack was on Ken Ham.  Now, Ken Ham does not have all our same convictions.  He doesn't claim to.  I don't even think he claims to be Independent Baptist.  But what he does do is travel the country encouraging people to trust Christ as Savior, and encouraging this new generation of young people to dig into Creation and not believe the doctrine of evolution being pushed so strongly by the world.  Ken Ham is doing an AMAZING work right now for God.   So what if he went to a Christian Contemporary concert?  Really...that negates everything else he is doing?  God has something to say about that too.   And I don't even think Ken Ham is doing anything out of the wrong motives, as mentioned in the passage below.  I think David Cloud needs to do more rejoicing and less complaining.....

James 1:And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear. 15Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will: 16The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds: 17But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. 18What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

The school my kids attend (a church, but we have our own church) has a harvest night on Halloween where we just have a bonfire and games and food...but nothing like Halloween stuff.  I'm glad they do that.  I'm staunchly against Halloween, and I don't think Christians even realize the devil's influence in their lives these days.

My husband is starting a series about the devil in church for the next several weeks.  We, ourselves, have had to get rid of a few things in our home that the kids liked that we were afraid was opening the door for Satanic influence (games that others think are harmless, etc.)

The college we went to, which was otherwise "strict" and almost "legalistic" actually allowed people to celebrate Halloween, even so far as to allow trick or treating on the campus.  I remember being appalled back then, and remain appalled.  Just goes to show that even people who think they are perfectly aligned with Scripture prOBably aren't.

I personally do not believe Halloween falls into "personal liberty" because it directly deals with Satan and I believe God tells us to flee from anything having to do with Satan.   Halloween doesn't even try to hide it...witches, gOBlins, ghosts, horror houses.

BTW the fact that our country loves Halloween but now people are starting to get upset about "Christmas" tells me there is a huge difference between the two holidays.  Even the world will admit that Christmas is a religious holiday.
