  1. Good Morning
My name is Elaine Parson and my husband is Tim Parson and he is I think "Tim for God" jon your site I think.

I just wanted to let all of you know that he passed away early in the morning June 14. He was comming home from Vacation Bible School and had a slight Motorcycle accident not even 1/2 mile from our home and something went wrong w/his heart and lungs while the Dr's were trying to get a CT Scan of his head and neck "just to check them out" and he went into cardiac arrest and could not be revived. My son Chris and I thank you for all of the kindness you have showed to Tim and all of the prayers when I was sick and having heart surgery. He would appreciate your prayers for our family now, and so would we. I just wanted you guys to know, because he felt like he knew you all personally not just "Online friends". Thanks again for all your prayers in advance. The funeral home stuff starts today I sure will need all the prayers I can get. Love to you all, at least I know that Tim is with Jesus worshiping with all of his heart and having a great time.

    Thanks again.
    Elaine

  2. I know a gentleman who is a Mason and very devoted Deacon and Baptist Church member. I really don't see how the two can be reconciled but according to him he has never seen anything that was remotely anti-God or anti-Christ. He belongs to a "Lodge" in eastern Alabama and according to him every member of his lodge are also active members in local churches. I have never seen anything in the Masons that appeals to me as a Christian

  3. This one might get me in trouble with the anti-CCM folks but it really a great song IMHO

I Can Only Imagine - Mercy Me (Almost There)
    I can only imagine
    What it will be like
    When I walk
    By your side

    I can only imagine
    What my eyes will see
    When your face
    Is before me
    I can only imagine

    CHORUS:
Surrounded by Your glroy, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
    I can only imagine

    I can only imagine
    When that day comes
    And I find myself
    Standing in the Son

    I can only imagine
    When all I will do
    Is forever
    Forever worship You
    I can only imagine

  4. One of my favorites

SOFTLY AND TENDERLY JESUS IS CALLING

Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling,
    Calling for you and for me;
See, on the portals He?s waiting and watching,
Watching for you and for me.

    Refrain

    Come home, come home,
    You who are weary, come home;
    Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
    Calling, O sinner, come home!

Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading,
Pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not His mercies,
Mercies for you and for me?

    Refrain

Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing,
    Passing from you and from me;
Shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming,
Coming for you and for me.

    Refrain

O for the wonderful love He has promised,
Promised for you and for me!
Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon,
Pardon for you and for me.

    Refrain

  5. Yup it is just a matter of time. I think we will see another major attack within the next 10 years, it is simply impossible for the FBI / DHS to stop them all. With the current political climate it will be harder to fight terrorism and weaker liberal politicians will be making policies that will hinder the fight.

  6. Here is a tidbit you might find interesting Kevin

    Carroll (Georgia) County's History

Named for Charles Carroll (1737-1832) of Maryland, an American patriot and signer of the Declaration of Independence, Carroll County was created by an act of the Georgia General Assembly on December 11, 1826, from land previously claimed by the Creek Indian tribe. The County's first elections were held in May, 1827. The original county boundaries formed a rough triangle, beginning in the south at the point where the Chattahoochee River turns northeast from the Alabama line, then following the state line on the west and the river on the east to the Cherokee-Creek Boundary Trail, some 100 miles to the north. Much of this original land now forms parts of Haralson, Douglas, Heard and Troup Counties.

  7. Yeah. They look like they need a good shower.

I was thinking same thing. Those guys looked like they need to be hosed down in the backyard before they are let inside for a shower.

I am a very casual dresser, but I always want to look clean and neat. I prefer jeans, boots or sneakers, a t-shirt, Henley, denim or chamois, or maybe a polo. I wear nicer things to church of course but I don't wear a suit often. I am very hot natured and jackets make me perspire (sweat).

  8. Does anyone visit any National Parks/Monuments?

Two summers ago, my family and I went on a trip to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon. On that trip, we visited:
    Grand Canyon
    Carlsbad Caverns
    Arches
    Pikes Peak
    Hovenweep (Indian ruins)
    Gateway Arch
    Petrified Forest
(Four Corners - not technically a national monument)

    Others:
    Mount Rushmore
    Several in D.C. (many times)

We have visited several National Parks and Monuments. My parents live in Carlsbad, NM so we have been there several times (Did you get to see the flight of the bats ?). There are several other parks close to there too. I would really like to have the $$ do a full tour of the west.... maybe someday.

  9. Not since it has been proven to be a known carcinogen.

I use White Ash wood. It has a an extremely high heat index, smells wonderful-good, and smolders long and slow. :thumb

I have eight humongous specimens of them growing in my back yard and woods area. They drop dead branches enough for me to have all the smoke-fodder that I could want.

I haven't sen anything that proves liquid smoke is a known carcinogen, I did a quick goggle search too and nothing popped up.

I prefer Hickory or real Mesquite when I can get it.

  10. Got a simple Weber Grill that gets used 4-5 times a year.

That is a lot for a city guy like me.

    Weber makes great Charcoal grills.

I have a Gas grill my in-laws bought me for Christmas several years ago. I haven't used it much in the last few months but we go through times when we cook on it 3-4 times a week.
  11. Just be consistent as possible, child rearing is one of those things that others can tell you about but until you do it yourself you never really know. Every child is different and you have to adapt your methods to fit the child.

As far as the books and pots and pans thing, set boundries. Chris was allowed to play with "his stuff" but when it came to pulling things off shelves that he wasn't suppose to touch the punishment was swift and sure. :wink No mean no every time, kids get confused when no means maybe.

You are doing great, the fact that this stuff concerns you means a lot. Don't forget kids do need to be kids too. They are not robots and they are going to get in trouble. You'll go through times when you think you are not getting through, then one day :ideas: the light goes on and you see that they really did learn something.

  12. I raised an only child and they are special because they are the only one  . Seriously it depends on how and what you teach the child. My son has always been a very independent person. He doesn't "follow the crowd" which at times is a very good thing. If he is in a group that starts something he is uncomfortable with, he doesn't hesitate to speak up or leave if things are not as he thinks they should be. He is very resistant to peer pressure which I think is great. He is also one of the most kind caring young men I know. His compassion for others amazes me at times.

I think firstlove's advice is good, there are some things that have to be done during the day but other things can wait until you are home to watch the child.

I also liked IM4given idea, let the child "help" as much as possible. They really enjoy being able to "help" Mom if it is done in the right way. We had a special cabinet with pots, pans, wooden spoon, etc... (mainly old cool whip bowls and a couple of cheap old pots). This was my son's special cabinet that he could play with everything in there, the rule was if he got it out he put it up.

A playmate several times a week might help, your wife might keep someone else

  13. I will have to say that you are a rare exception in the realm of calvinists.

I live about 5 minutes from Bob Jones University and therefore know a lot of calvinists and calvinism teaching churches. They predominately push the NASB. Why? It is easier to get John Calvins version of salvation from that "version" of the Bible than from the KJV. I'm not a calvinist basher. My only point is that typically a person or denomination will seek out the "version" that best suits their needs doctrinely. Therefore, in their eyes, other Bible translations are less reliable. So you see, in my experience, a person's doctrine and their selection of "versions" of God's Word are by no means seperate issues.

  14. I plumb forgot about poke-salat! I would give a hundred dollars for a mess of poke-salad and a skillet of corn bread! :hungry:

Want that cornbread buttered ? At those prices I have cut down enough poke-salad in my life to retire very comfortably
  15. In many areas DSL or a canopy wireless solution are not viable options. There are still many areas of our county that cannot get DSL. Cable is the most often chosen alternative around here because most areas here have cable access. I looked at HughesNet before DSL became available to our home. As others have said the start up cost can be very high but I saw a deal recently that covered most of those cost with a bundled contract committment. (Basic Sat TV and Internet). I know a few people have had very good performace from Directway, no one I know with a Sat Provider has had anything bad to say.
