    Starting Again

We have arrived in Washington and have begun service in the church here. This last Sunday was our first Sunday, and the Lord blessed. The church has been running a steady attendance of 6 regular people for months. We had 14 here Sunday, including my son and I and 6 visitors. and there was an easy liberty to preach. I preached a short, simple message from Luke 8 on the woman who touched the hem of Christ's garment, contrasting her with all of the throng who was jostling Jesus, but never did "touch" Him. I just wanted to update everyone, and ask for continued prayes

  3. We have only two little girls coming to Sunday School at this point. They knew nothing much about the Bible before they started attending. So I've been very careful about how I present salvation to them. And I've been praying quite a bit in the last few weeks for them. Well, Sunday morning the oldest girl accepted Christ as her Savior!! We were near the end of our lesson. The Bible stories have all been about the life of Christ. I also teach a practical application story. This past Sunday I divided the story of George Washington Carver in half and told it in Sunday School and Jr Church. Part o

  4. I think there are things that most church members just dont really know or understand about pastoring and preaching. And we ourselves often cant clarify it for them. For instance, I am completely exhausted after preaching. Body, soul and spirit, I am completely pored out. I am not a screamer or a "windsucker" kind of preacher, but I am passionate, focused and "all in" when I preach. I usually feel like I just finished digging ditches for 8 hours, except digging ditches doesnt drain me spiritualy and emotionally. Add to that 1 1/2 hours of picking up kids before church from the surrounding

    Reverend?

The name or title "reverend" only appears 1 time in all of scripture. Psa 111:9 He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend ishis name. The only time it is used is as a name for God. He is the "revered one" if you will. So I can't help but wonder how we, the humble servants of God, can have the temerity to refer to ourselves, or let others refer to us, as "Reverend". We are not ever to be "revered ones", but humble servants who lead the church in grace and humility and truth by our example.

  7. This past Sunday evening I presented a message from Matthew 24:4-14 entitled, "Expect These Things." The theme of the message was that we New Testament believers should expect certain things to occur throughout this time of the church age. In Matthew 24:4-14 our Lord provided a prophetic utterance concerning things that SHALL occur. He was not speaking concerning the future Tribulation Period, for He does not speak concerning that until Matthew 24:15. Rather, He was speaking concerning the time period in which we are at the very present -- the time period of the New Testament church. What

    Happy Australia Day

Happy Australia Day everyone! 26th January 1788 is the day the First Fleet arrived at Sydney Cove. 11 ships 1400 people, and an evangelical preacher called Richard Johnson, who brought with him 4200 bibles. He preached from Psalm 116: 12, 13 12 What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me? 13 I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD. The first Christian message preached on Australian shores was from this passage, by a man who refused to preach good works (when ordered by the governor), instead preaching of salvation by

  9. Well, after 10 years since the last one, we've accepted a request to take a pastorate of a little church in Washington State 40 miles south of Spokane. They've been looking for a pastor with "callused hands and muddy boots" who can relate to the farmers, ranchers and working men of the area. When they first contacted me back in June, we turned down the offer, not feeling we were up to it. But they never found a pastor they were looking for, and we never found the ministry we were looking for. So when they came back around again last month, we accepted after much prayer. I'm taking of

Went from 14 people last Sunday to 23 today. Had fully half of the high school wrestling team from the local public school present. And not one person is someone I myself have met and invited to church. No drums, electric guitars etc, no give-aways, no programs, no contests. The highest attendance this church has seen in the last 8 years was 14, and that was last Sunday. I don't know what God is doing, but He's the one doing it. All I can do is remain faithful, preach the truth, love these people and hang on for the ride. It's a testament to God's faithfulness that He is rewarding t

  12. Quite frankly, the title of this thread is misleading and somewhat deceitful. The title implies that Baptists do not fast and therefore Baptists are not spiritual and do not obey the admonition to fast. This is one of the reasons why I have never commented on this thread the years that I have been on Online Baptist. In other words, the title of this thread already insinuates that "Baptists" do not fast which is an error. Quite a few "Baptists" do fast; they just don't tell everyone about it. Why? The Lord Jesus said, "Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad counten

    An apology

Okay, so when I posted the articles concerning David Cloud, the Australian church, and the issue of the timing of the rapture, I did not intend for it to go where it did, though out of experience, I should have seen that happening. My intention was just to put forth whether the timing of the rapture should be considered a fundamental of the faith, and a matter of separation and heresy. Yes, it was a disagreement with David Cloud's position, but it was not meant in any ways to disparage him and his ministry, a ministry that I have used often, and do to this day. But yes, it was a disagree

The literal interpreter takes the literal interpretation unless there is a reason to take it otherwise. The reason could be a literary mechanism, such as when the Bible uses the term "like", which indicates that something is not the literal stated item but is "like" it. Mat 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a d

People I had never met before. Including about 10 teenagers from town who are totally unchurched and unsaved. I spent the entire evening policing. Don't get me wrong, everyone had a great time, although the carpet in the fellowship hall may never recover. When everything was done, and all were gone, I found myself upstairs in my office at about 12:30am this morning praying. There had been no preaching, no evangelism,

  20. Ah, but this report is wherein the incorrect estimation lies. Actually, some Christians have Christmas trees "in spite of Jeremiah 10" because they do NOT believe that Jeremiah 10:1-16 is talking about Christmas trees, but that it is talking about idols formed and carved from trees. They are not seeking to stand in stubborn disobedience against the Lord. Rather, they simply do not believe that this passage at all reveals our Lord's viewpoint concerning Christmas trees, but only His viewpoint concerning idols. They believe this because of the statements made throughout the WHOLE context of

  22. Jesus said that the only sin which cannot be forgiven is the "blasphemy of the Holy Ghost". So to say that homosexuals or effeminates cannot be saved is quite frankly a lie of the Devil. The Bible plainly mentions "abusers of themselves with mankind" and (speaking to Christians) says "and such were some of you". Now a Homosexual or effeminate who has blasphemed the Holy Ghost; that is, of course, a different story, they sin their "day of grace" away as anyone else doing the same. As to a "reprobate mind", this is a morally corrupt mind. But God does not "make" a person think, say or do wicked

  23. Meekness is not weakness. Meekness is power under control. This is why Scripture describes Jesus as meek; He certainly had the power, but He also had it under control. As to the effeminate issue I cannot speak to it, I have never seen it in a church setting, only in the world in general. Perhaps it would be profitable for you to stop "church hopping" and find a church home to settle in to.

Human logic is the foundation for human philosophy; and if an individual is not careful, human philosophy will lead astray. Human logic (just as human emotion) is of value WHEN it is sanctified by the Holy Spirit; HOWEVER, human logic is NOT the FOUNDATION for truth. In fact, when it is not sanctified by the Holy Spirit, human logic (as well as human emotion) will be faulty and corrupt, and will thus lead into error. Those who have full assurance of faith in the Lord our God will be

    People quoting heretics.

Paul didn't simply quote a philosopher or poet and leave it at that (which is what is common to do on fb), he used those quotes to gain the attention of the audience who would be familiar with the source material, then used that to show them the error of worldly wisdom and the truth of God's wisdom. They were basically sermon illustrations which he used in such a way that the listeners would understand the gospel. He did not use the quotes in support of the author or the original intent, he always turned them around and pointed towards Christ. So in this sense, it would be misleading to say so

Christ has done His part: Died to pay for the sin of the world; Lightens every man that comes into the world; draws all men to Him from the cross. What more does anyone need from Him? The Lord also gave us His word. Then, we who hear and respond and are saved speak the gospel to those we are able to speak it to, and faith comes HOW? Faith cometh by HEARING, and hearing by the WORD OF GOD. So, all men have the light of Christ, the drawing of Christ, the word of God, and the gospel. Just because most will choose to reject it, doesn't mean G

I'd like to add a suggestion. At the church I attended during Bible college, occasionally the song leader would bring out an interesting fact about the hymn we were about to sing, whether about the song itself or the author of the song. It really helps with the understanding or appreciation of the hymn. It would take some effort on your part to do some research about one of the hymns, but if you do this than the folks who know nothing about the hymns will grow in their understanding and appreciation of why we sing the traditional hymns. It's not something you need to do for every song and not

But your premise that many of us are rejecting logic and that we "believe because we want to" is just wrong. Christians should be the greatest skeptics the world knows, but you are not trying the spirits. You truly are starting at the place that Thomas was: "I will not believe, unless I see the scars and feel the wounds." There have been several answers given which you dismiss because you don't like them. They are not "bad answers" as you see them to be, they simply are not satisfying to you. We can't help that.
