I don't believe Biblical modesty changes. Some pants are modest, some are immodest. Some skirts/dresses are modest, some are immodest. What I think changes is our acceptability to certain things. Culture will always change, but sin will always be sin.

Update. After cutting the lesson in half, foregoing my usual formatting style, and merging two posts, I was able to upload the lesson on Romans 16:16 onto, "The Local Church," thread. Alan

    The Local Church.

The Local Church I Timothy 3:15, “But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” The “house of God” that Paul is referring to the local assembly of the believers. The Apostle Paul is admonishing Timothy to behave himself in the local assembly of believers; the church. The local church was an assembly in an area of a community. It was the visible assembly of the saints in the New Testament. The church may be in a house, a rented building, or a building that was bought for the purpose of the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. In 1 and 2 Timothy Paul the Apostle give Timothy, and every saint in the New Testament, instructions “how” to behave himself in the local assembly of believers in the church. This behavior includes the following two offices in the local church: 1. The qualifications of the pastor, or bishop, in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, and called an elder in 1 Timothy 5:17. These qualifications are for the pastor of the local church. 2. The qualifications of the deacon and his wife, 1 Timothy 3:8-13. These qualifications are for the deacon(s) of the local church. The local churches were Independent in Authority and Fellowship Colossians 4:15 and 16, “Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house. And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.” Nymphas had a church in his house. This assembly was local in scope, visible, and limited in authority, There was another church, or another visible assembly of believers, in Laodicea. Paul admonished the two assemblies to share in the reading of the Epistle of Colossians. There were no "bishops," or denominational headquarters, over the two assemblies. Denominations & the so-called “Universal” Church There are no denominations in the New Testament. All of the denominations, Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Methodist, etc… have a starting point in history, a leader, and a religious hierarchy that is unknown in the New Testament scriptures. There is no “universal church” in the New Testament. There is a “General Assembly,” in heaven of all the saints, “But ye come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels. To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect.” Hebrews 12:22 and 23 All of the assemblies mentioned in the New Testament are visible, local and independent. The Apostle Paul gave detailed instructions for the qualifications of the pastor and the deacon as the visible head of the local church.

Because of the formatting, the software though it was malicious code so blocked it. I'm guessing that is what it was.

    The Local Church.

Romans 16:16, "The Churches of Christ" The apostle Paul said, "Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you." Romans 16:16 "... churches..." Please note that the the word "churches" is in the plural tense. As the apostle Paul preached the gospel, people were converted and churches, or assemblies, of saints were established in the various cities. Every assembly was independent from one another in location and authority but had fellowship and a bond of oneness in Christ with one another. " ... churches of Christ ..." A true church, true local assembly, belonged to Christ as the head of the church. The Lord Jesus said, "... I will build my church ..." Matthew 16: 18. We do need to take careful note that the word "churches" is not capitalized. The Error of the Church of Christ Denomination Although "The Church of Christ," or "Churches of Christ," denomination, or "Cambellism," does not like to be called a denomination, nonetheless, the "Churches of Christ" are a denomination. The "Church of Christ" denomination take the title of their name from Romans 16:16. And, that the "Churches of Christ" capitalize the word "Church" as a "title." This is an error. The "Church of Christ" denomination have erroneous beliefs concerning baptism, music, what constitutes a local church, the body of Christ, and are openly hostile towards independent Baptist and many other like-minded churches. Baptism of a Means of Salvation The de-facto spokesman for the Church of Christ, Joe R. Barnett, the Church of Christ, Internet Ministries, states, "The New Testament teaches baptism as an act which is essential to salvation (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16)." 1 1. Copied on September 9, 2019 A Tirade Against Baptists After a tirade of miss-use, mingling, ignoring, and twisting of History, Baptist History, Church History, the scriptures, and what consitutes an true New Testament Church, Mr. Wayne Jackson, concludes with this remark concerning his tirade against all Baptists, "Finally, we are forced to make this concluding comment. It is a tragedy of enormous magnitude that some of our own brethren now are granting authenticity to this humanly-devised denomination. May these erring brothers hear the words of God’s apostle: “For if I build up again those things which I once destroyed, I prove myself a transgressor” (Gal. 2:18)." 2 Most "Church of Christ" ministers, and full-time workers, do not consider independent Baptist churches New Testament churches. In fact, they will state, or give the impression, that only they (the Churches of Christ), are New Testament churches. Conclusion Due to "The Church of Christ" denomination taking their title from Romans 16:16, and 1 Corinthians 1:2, many folks are not aware that Paul was simply letting the saints at Rome know that the other churches were part of fellowship of churches belonging to Christ and wanted to bring the saints at Rome greetings. Due to the "Church of Christ" using Romans 16:16, and 1 Corinthians 1:2, as a title to their denomination they are causing confusion among the saints, the world in general, and the religious world. 2. Since this topic has risen once again, I habe heard that there's news on the topic, but habent heard what it is. I never have my thoughts on this, but I believe that first off, NVBC did right in how they handled it on their end; the offense did not occur at their church or school, and a careful investigation was made to ensure nothing had occurred with the students. As well Giovanelli was immediately removed from all duties once the issue was made known to them, and they began their investigation into it. I know Shiflett didn't find this to be enough in his eyes, but since the allegations were made by only one witness, scripturally what do we see? 1 Timothy 5:19 KJV "Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses." So with only one witness, and that shakey, I think, having waited how many years to say anything, and at this point I still don't even know what the accusation was, it was correct how the church proceeded. As for what he is doing now, the allegations are public, his current church knows about it, and as far as I understand Giovanelli has submitted himself to authorities while the investigation continues.

I believe Mr Giovanelli landed in Jacksonville Florida (Pastor Greg Neal) at Immanuel Baptist, and was positioned to lead their new Bible College that I believe was to open in 2020. If this is all true, it truly saddens me, as between this and the guy at the church in Hammond give IFB a bad name.

Proverbs 1:7 -- "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: but fools despise wisdom and instruction." In my opinion, they are leaving because they lack the foundational motivation of heart to stay. They are more concerned about what pleases them than they are about what pleases God. They do not possess the fear and love of the Lord in their hearts. Rather, they possess the love of self and the world in their hearts. They are dull of hearing toward the teaching and preaching of God's Word because they do not possess a foundational fellowship with the God of the Word. They have entangled themselves with the riches, pleasures, and social connections of this life and world; and those things are choking out their desire for the Lord their God and His Holy Word. It is ALL about the priority of their hearts.
