Exactly! Those who are saved WILL be conformed to the image of Christ. That is predestination. Sadly, many do twist it to mean predestined to Salvation.

I don't know anything about US politics so I don't usually comment on them. But as regards ISIS I think that if we don't fight them where they are, we will one day (soon) have to fight them here.

    Tent Revival

The crowds have been huge for the tent revival. This area is so small three counties are involved in the revival. So far about 60 people have been saved. One night there was over 1400 and another night there was 1600. For such a small area that is unheard of. It takes lost people to attend to get numbers that high because we are very rural counties. "predestination" is a sticky topic in IFB circles, and frequently avoided. the problem, as I see it, is that some people have taken this doctrine, which is clearly in scripture, and twisted to suit their own theology. God predestined that those who choose to accept Christ as their savior will be conformed to the image of His Son. Not that they were predestined to get saved. God himself is truth, and the source of all truth. Without God there is no truth. In order to know truth we must seek God. This can only be done through Christ. Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Joh 14:7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

Not sure I agree completely with the premise, in that the prophets had a very peculiar and different sort of signs-based ministry, HOWEVER, that being said, I tnink its also important to remember that God doesn't always fit into the nice neat packages we place Him in sometimes. In my case, I answered what I still believe to have been a clear call to go into full-time ministry, but well after that, my wife left me. Now, some would say, "Well, that disqualifies you", to which I reply, "Was God surprised by my wife leaving me? Was He wrong to call me?" Of course, there are those who would say, "Well, because of your divorce, God clearly DIDN'T call you, you were wrong." To which I reply, "You haven't lived my life, you haven't been through the ten-year span of having my life taken completely out of my control, taking me from coast to coast against my will, until I was surrendered, then quickly saw God answer some very specific prayers and, well, conditions I needed met in my life, and then, basically, thrust into a full-time pastor's position where I am now." If anyone wants specifics, let me know and I would be glad to share them. The point being, I surrendered to full-time ministry, though not specifically in what capacity, (I figured a music ministry of some sort), but then I tried to take it back: bad idea. I gave myself, and the Lord wouldn't let me out of my promise I made to Him. And God can, and will, use ANYONE in ANY position HE chooses to. He made a woman the judge of Israel, why couldn't He use a divorced man to pastor a church where no one else wants to go?

    The 7th Shemita is here

Mormons must have great faith because that "Christian denomination" teaches the necessity of stockpiling. Every Mormon family is expected to have a minimum of one months supplies stocked away. The preferred, and pushed for amount of stockpiling is for each family to have one year of supplies (or more!) stocked away. They believe a great downfall is coming to America, a Mormon leader will restore America (something both Romney and Beck believe) and Mormons will be the largest group of survivors because of their vast stockpiles of supplies. Many Christians dismiss the sermon on the mount where Jesus Himself teaches contrary to the philosophy of most Christian doomsday preppers.

That's not referring to stockpiling for a doomsday scenario. If we are going to look to the one with faith, who has more faith, the one who trusts God to provide their daily bread or the one who builds bigger barns to stockpile more and more?

I've known two pastors personally I would place in the "great" category and one of them was forced out of the church because the board of deacons was power hungry and didn't like the pastor doing anything without their permission or anything other than what they wanted him to do. Our church has boards, but no board of deacons. The few deacons in our church are servant-helpers as Scripture describes. We have a board of Christian education, board of physical properties and a main church board. All three boards are filled with members voted on by the members of the church and a person can only sit on a board for two consecutive terms. This keeps our boards from being dominated by anyone. Our associate pastor sits on the Christian education board and our senior pastor sits on the main board. Board members function as servants of the church, not as rulers.

The discrepancy is a scribal discrepency; and I am the scribe. I will correct it. Alan tapperhoney and Standing Firm in Christ, I could not have explained predestination better. I think we need to thank both of you very much for your posting. Leonard Sylvia, Thank you for bringing out Romans 9:11-13, Galatins 1:15 and Proverbs 16:9 Galatians 1;15, "But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace." Proverbs 16:9, "A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps." Alan

In one of my old churches, despite having over 1000 people, he had no deacons, just associate pastors-I think that's a great idea in this day and age of ruling deacon boards.

I am trying something new. If it works, you will know. If it does not work, then this posting will have nothing more therein; and this thread will be dead before it began. IT DID NOT WORK. ________________________________________________________________ I will now engage in a different method. It is not one that I prefer, and I will not likely engage in such again. I forgot to write this earlier today. You men will think I'm a flip-floper but God told the prophets to break the law. Isaiah was told to go naked, which broke the law. Ezekiel was told to cook with nastiness which broke the law. And Hosea had to take a prostitute for a wife!!!! So if God wanted to call a remarried man to the pulpit, He would do it. Personally I think it would be a specialty job like how God used the prophets.

First, of course, there is the issue of an unbiblical authority given to deacons: deacons were never intended as a board to rule over a pastor and a church-the Bible makes clear that the pastor(s)/elder(s) has the primary authority under the Lord, also called 'bishops', meaning overseers. In Hebrews 13, the believers addressed are told to remeber them that have the rule over you, and to obey them that have the rule over you-neither instance is speaking of civil rule, but ecclesiastical rule, ie, their pastors. The deacons didn't have authority over the pastors, nor should they: they are designed to take many burdens off the pastor, so he can concentrate on the work of study and prayer. They are assistants, not rulers over him. But nowadays many churches foolishly create a board to rule the pastors, who should be subject to the Lord first, and then to the church, as a whole, but NOT to some small group of men who take upon themselves the authority to hire and fire. Were I to be made the pastor of such a church, the first thing I would do is to disband the deacons board, and when I came to know the men of the church well enough, I would ordain godly men to work with me, as deacons, if I needed the help. I have never had deacons in the 13 years I have been a pastor. As for your pastor, I suppose there is some precedence for removing him, as the Bible says that a pastor should be able to rule his own household well, and a disobedient wife who ran off would seem to imply that he had no rule in his home. However, all things need to be considered-why did she leave? She did have an affair-why? was he not attentive enough to her needs? Not saying that justifies it, but a pastor certainly must maintain a careful balance between their marriage and their calling. As well, we know that everyone has a will, and some just, for no good reason, decide they are done with it. It is really something that should have gone before the entire church for a vote, not just a group of men in an unbiblical position.

According to Josephus Salome was the daughter of Herod II, not Herod Antipas which Salome dance for. He also indicates Herodias violated the law by divorcing herself from Herod II. This is why there was the claim she was actually still Herod II's wife even after she married Herod Antipas, who himself was also divorced. Their lives sound like many today involved in serial marriage, divorce and remarriage.

Covenanter said, "We know of Peter, James & John, & possibly Philip. It is likely that, like Paul they went first to synagogues wherever they went, where they existed. An obvious line to follow would be the Jews of the dispersion who came from the countries recorded in Acts 2, to instruct these new Christians, & spread out from there. There are stories/accounts of their lives & ministry in church history, but how reliable are they." I thoroughly agree with your conclusion. Excellent observation. Also, you observation of Acts 1:8 in relation to the apostles is also very noteworthy and helpful to the discussion. Thank you very much for your observations and comments. Alan

We will expound and discuss the second part of your question: Godliness. Godliness "But godliness with contentment is great gain." 1 Timothy 6:6 Godliness is an attribute that is an inherent attibute of God himself. It is a great gain to every Christian to have godliness in his life. God is Holy and in both the Old and New Testaments God wants His holiness, His godliness, to be a living part of our lives. The apostle Peter quotes Leviticus 19:2 in 1 Peter 1:15 and 16, "But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy." God wants us to partake of His divine nature of holiness as a characteristic in our own lives after salvation. "In all manner of conversation," is not only in our speech, but in our daily living. How we converse with others is a matter of holiness. Holiness is the ultimate characteristic that every Christian should stive to obtain in his character, walk in life, and personal relationship with the Lord Jesus. The apostle Peter builds upon the subject of holiness, (with examples of characterisitcs leading up to godliness), in his Second Epistle. 2 Peter 1:3 - 7, "According as his divine power hath given us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that ye might be partakes of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity." Throughout eternity we will be reminded of the holiness of God: the essence of His godliness. Revelation 4:8, "And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come."

    Donald Trumps Everyone Else . . . . Not

Trumps a businessman and he knows war with Russia, as well as further tensions between us and them are bad for business. Trump already has somewhat of a relationship with Putin and he's made it clear he believes he could talk with Putin and make things better between Russia and America. Other than saying he would be willing to put American troops on the ground to get rid of ISIS, I've not heard anything from Trump that would sound as if he would be quick to go to war. On the Republican side Rand Paul is probably the most "anti-war" (for lack of a better term off hand) candidate. Paul takes a more traditional conservative position in that the he believes war should be a last option and only when American interests are directly effected. On the Republican side Lindsey Graham is the biggest war hawk who would likely be the quickest to send American troops into battle, and be willing to thrust America into two or more wars at once. His foreign policy solutions most amount to telling everyone to do as he says or he'll send in American troops. Unfortunately, several other Republican candidates are fairly close to these views themselves. Most seem to think it's a badge of honor to declare their willingness to threaten war and go to war with anyone from Iran to Russia. Given the political climate in the Democrat Party, as well as across much of the country, I doubt Hillary would get America into a war unless such were basically forced upon her. If she doesn't hurry up and get these investigations behind her and get her campaign going the point will be moot as the Dems will put forth another candidate to take her place. Both Parties, as well as much of the brainwashed masses, hate the idea of an America First candidate, and America First policies. The Parties want one of their accepted "go along" politicians to win the nomination, as does a large percentage of the voters. This is why the Repubs offered weak candidates for president the last two elections and why the voters voted Obama in for two terms regardless of his anti-American speech and policies (not to mention anti-Christian). Look at the last congressional elections where Repubs promised if they were voted into control of congress they would stop Obama's excesses and fight to fix what Obama has already done. However, very shortly after the elections the Repubs were compromising and caving in to Obama just as before. No matter which Party is in power, they drive the country in the same bad, wrong direction. This isn't by accident.
