Proverbs 2 1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; 3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; 4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; 5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. In math or logic we have objects called conditional statements. "If" something is true "then"something will follow. In Psalm 2:1 we "if thou" so that we know a conclusion may follow later. Psalm 3:1 has "Yea, if thou"so that the "hypothesis" is being expounded on. Again in Psalm 2:4 we see "If thou" yet again so the 'hypothesis"is continued. In Psalm 2:5 we see the conclusion is here because of the word "Then." Without going through the whole proverb(you can do that) let's try and understand this particular If-Then statement. In the hypothesis we have: "receive my words" "hide my commandments with thee" "incline thine ear unto wisdom" "apply thine heart to understanding""criest after knowledge""liftest up thy voice for understanding" "seekest her as silver" "searchest for her as for hid treasures" In the conclusion we have: "understand the fear of the LORD" "find the knowledge of God" THAT IS A TREMENDOUS CONCLUSION! You need to read and accept (receive)the word of God, memorize the word of God (hide my commandments),listen to the preaching of the word of God (incline thine ear). Now,if you watch a sport and you say "that player played with all his heart" then what do you mean? How hard and with what enthusiasm is that athlete playing? Well, you are supposed to do that when you are studying the word of God. You are to "apply thine heart to understanding." Applying your heart is what that motivated athlete does on the field. Applying your heart is to study to shew thyself approved. You are not supposed to be just asking questions but "criest after knowledge". Not whimper after knowledge but with your mouth seek it with passion as can also be seen in "liftest up thy voice for understanding". Now, if there was silver, gold, rubies, diamonds, sapphires hidden in your house or on your property then you would have a daily program to diligently search for those hid treasures. You wouldn't be watching football while there were rubies loose in your house. You would find those rubies and the game would come later. We see that ATTITUDE in"seekest her as silver" "searchest for her as for hid treasures". Well, are you searching for the treasures of God in,say, the Bible? That is the kind of person that will know the fear of the LORD. That is the kind of person that will find the knowledge of God. Is that person you?

    United Church Of God

Metaphorically speaking, aren't we on this forum (the born again believers) all part of the "body?" Some on here are preachers, some know how to teach, some are encouragers...those are some of the gifts of the body of Christ but we all go to different local churches. Even when I went to AOG, as a born again, saved believer, I was still part of the body of Christ. I was still just as much an arm as someone was an eye. And if the rapture were to happen right now, God would not come for just an eye and leave the arm behind no matter what church you belong to.

Parallel the family structure (I am intentionally deleting the labels in lieu of the packages). Technically: My wife, kids still at home and myself would constitute my IMMEDIATE family. Once a child married, a new IMMEDIATE family was formed (my daughter now has a new authority - her husband now is final say in conflicting decisions, not me. THEY are their home's standards setter, not me.) They are now part of the EXTENDED family. They are still family but I have no say (outside of recommendation or suggestion) as to (for example) whether or not the kids play on the furniture. Bible Baptist Church in Goodland, Ks is a gathering point for the born again in this IMMEDIATE area with the authority to determine whether the "children" can play on the furniture, Colby Independent Baptist Church in Colby, Ks (leaving Goodland Bible Church or Pleasant Home Church out of the picture to avoid dual issues) is still a gathering point, but EXTENDED and we have no basis to decide that their "children" can't play on their furniture.

Is There Enough Room For You?

Modern Versions Anthropomorhize God's Universe Physicists have more vision for the universe than the modern version translators. While physicists talk about quantum mechanics, worm holes, and multiple dimensions the modern translators are relegating God's omnipotent power into the space of a more mangeable room. Yes, your future is being made into a jail cell rather than a mansion by the modern versioners. When we look in the King James Bible we see the comfoting text in John 14: 1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Yes, in MY FATHER's HOUSE there are MANY mansions. A house containing mansions is worthy of an inconcievable BIG omnipotent God of a deep rich universe. How do you fit mansions in a house? A house, or mansion, doesn't just have rooms. A mansion has rooms with purpose ... bathrooms and kitchens and bedrooms and living rooms and anD aND AND MORE! What do the modern versions say we have to look forward to? The New Living translation says: Jhn 14:2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. ... Sounds crowded but an omnopetent wonderful God will manage to make room for you. Really? Someone coming to visit for the holiday and what do you say? "We have more than enough room for you." (It will be an inconvenience but we'll make it happen so you can spend the night.) the New International Version says: John 14:2 My Father’s house has many rooms;... the English Standard version says: John 14:2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. Our inconcievable God now has a house with many rooms. We go from mansions to rooms. Who is the god of the NIV bible? Who is the god of the ESV bible? Can they sing "My God is so big so strong and so mighty there's nothing my God cannot do"? Folks a mansion is not a room. Mansions speak of a non-human God's conception for us and rooms speak of a conceivable, to man, future for us. Not all versions do this in the verse. The NKJV leaves the verse largely unchanged. Several versions do some justice to John 14:2 and give God the honor he deserves. The problem is, that most modern versions do this kind of thing somewhere. We do not honor God by giving publishers that serve money, mammon, to relegate God's power from multiple mansions down to maybe enough room for you. The King James Bible honors God.

    Health Insurance

We now have $1.000 deductible per person and my husband works for the city. We never had to pay out of pocket for anything before except $10 copays for office visits. There's 8 people in our family and on our insurance. It's gonna hurt with my son's therapy for autism and his yearly asthma hospital visits. But I won't let it bring me down. God will provide for his children's needs.

    Gift Of Tongues

I think I have mentioned this before, but it may have bearing on the subject. We were at an open air meal at a Church in France. They were celebrating the departure of their pastor and the arrival of the new pastor. There was a lady speaking in a language I didn't understand. I asked a man who spoke English what language it was and he said "German." I replied "It doesn't quite sound like German to me." He said "It is Alsacienne." I found out later it was his wife. He said "I have a confession to make, I am German." Then his wife started singing How Great Thou Art in Alsacienne, he sang it in German, the French sang it in French and my wife and I in English. To me, the other languages were unknown tongues. To most of the others English was an unknown tongue. I believe that tongues were actual languages. Corinth was a seaport and would have had mariners from many countries. Someone speaking in his language would be unknown to his hearers, so he would be edifying himself.

Without a doubt there was a very dramatic change in my life when I applied myself to diligently reading and searching the Scripture. From what I've observed over the years the biggest problem with professing Christians is their lack of attention to the Word. Various surveys over the years confirm this as well; even those surveys done among conservative and fundamental Christians have all indicated only a tiny few who give serious attention to the Word. How I wish I had understood the importance of spending diligent time in the Word much sooner! At this point in my life I can't imagine not giving time to the Word daily.

Is There Enough Room For You?

This is something I've noticed over the years and pondered. I find it amazing some preachers will say the KJB got it wrong using the word "mansion" and usually say something to the effect that the "original" wording simply means rooms. This often leads to them preaching about each of us having rooms of our own, with some claiming that some of us may have more rooms than others based upon our works on earth. I've typically found the way their sermon goes really does seem as if they are greatly limiting what God says we have to look forward to and in effect limiting the inheritance God is willing to give us. So, is our infinite, almighty God going to give us each a mansion (as the KJB says) or are we to be expecting what seems to amount to an apartment (as some MVs suggest)? As for me and my house...we'll stand with what the KJB says.

    United Church Of God

Well, if your church is the body and my church is the body and several other churches here are the body then we are all of the body. Whatever terms we use, we are all one in Christ, and this would be much more clear today if we conducted ourselves according to the scriptural model in Acts and the Epistles where we see not only individuals in the local church fully caring for one another, but we see various churches over a wide geographic area caring for one another, praying for one another, giving to one another, staying connected to one another.

No contradiction at all. We study for knowledge and pray for wisdom. We do both of them.

    Gift Of Tongues

I guess I realized that not everything we experience is from God. So rather than base my belief on that experience, I put my belief in what the Bible says about it.
