The feminists love this stuff. This could be the break they are hoping for to help them completely take over the churches as they are taking over the government, schools, businesses, etc. If they can "prove" that Jesus was married then they can claim that Jesus passed the headship of the church over to Mary Magdalene. If this papyrus is real it is nothing but Gnostic rubbish that was meant to remain buried. The apostle John dealt with these blasphemous heretics in I John. It seems that this heresy will rear it's ugly head again during the last days of the church as it did in the beginning days. Oh, and Jesus is married. He is married to the church. (II Cor 11:2)

The "scholar", Karen King, is a radical feminist with a long track record of "finding" ways to distort, discredit and attempt to manipulate the Scriptures with her radical feminism. Many scholars have come forward pointing out many reasons why they believe the tiny piece of papyrus is fake. They have also called into question King's taking this public without first establishing it's authenticity. There is a huge trade in fake "antiquities" and many scholars who have looked at this believe it's likely a fake. One must also take into consideration this papyrus, if it's even real, has been determined to have been written four centuries after Christ. Why would something written four centuries after Christ be considered more accurate or even as accurate as that which is in the Bible? Consider the many writings today which make all sorts of false claims, contain made up "histories", have the writings of authors attempting to create dialogue they think could have taken place between people in the past, or even the writings which are straight out lies. One thing is certain, any writing, whenever written, which contradicts the inspired Word of God, is a lie.

    Christian Schools - How Much?

Years ago I prayed and told the Lord that as long as He made it possible, I would send my children to a Christian school. He made it possible, and they had never so much as entered a public school. God is the great provider. Sometimes it was hard, but nothing good comes without a certain amount of sacrifice either on our part, or as in salvation, on the Lord's part. My wife had to drive them to school every day, (until we car pooled) in winter ice and snow, with some exciting events occurring, but she always made it without any harm to the car, her, or the kids. It is all worth the sacrifice.

The fragment is just that, a fragment of a document of unkown origin and of unknown date. It means nothing. We have the scriptures, that is all we need.

    Ephesians 6:10-18 King James Version (KJV) 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

    Christian Schools - How Much?

Let's pretend that you are a single parent and make minimum wage. You bring home $1000/month. First thing's first, you need to provide a home for your 3 children. In my area, a 2-bedroom apartment would cost you a MINIMUM of $500/month (I hope you like sleeping on the couch, because it's illegal for an adult to share a bedroom with a child over a certain age and different gender children must also have different rooms). Plus, your children need at least 1 complete outfit and food to eat. You need a car to get around, or at least bus fair. How does that leave room for you to pay $590/month for schooling??? How will your children have uniforms? What will you do if one month a child gets sick and you have to pay for a doctor's visit? What happens if your car breaks down?? While I think it's wonderful that you are able to provide well for your family, it makes me sick that you actually consider someone who is widowed with 3 children and working as well as she can to provider for her family to be sinning against God. No wonder the world looks at Christians and thinks we are all hypocrites!! Maybe you should come to Detroit and spend some time with the families that are struggling as I mentioned above. 2 years ago at Thanksgiving a company donated 200 turkeys to our church for us to distribute to families who were unable to have a nice meal. The city gave us PAGES and PAGES of families who made less than $12,000/year. I will pray for you...

Like I said... welcome to Russia. I have family that lived under Stalin and boy your own kids were trained to do you in. One of my family members said they feel like they're living the nightmare again.

Wow that language is WAY WAY WAY too broad. Not only that, but it allows any child to get their parent locked up, or any neighbor to call in anything to get a person locked up. "Caused pain"? So the next time a kid cries, the neighbor can turn them in for "causing pain"? And what if my boys start fighting, and they get pain? What if the dog scratches one and causes pain? Really? No pain allowed? Ridiculous.

1 child who does not attend services -- $80/ mo., four children who all (with or without parents attending) 2 services a week and have no detention in the month and maintain a 90% or higher grade average in all subjects -- $75/ mo (not per child -- total). That's the highest level and the lowest level and there are no extra expenses for field trips, books, etc except for a one time $25 registration fee when a child is enrolled for the first time. We reserve the right to refuse any potential student and require parents and high school aged children to read and understand the school handbook beforehand. We also severely limit the number of outside children admitted. In other words, we're not taking a child just because there's a desire to put in our school and the tuition money is available. We never have more than 4 students from outside the church and have even refused children from within the church. I personally know a church that has a school (only children of members in good standing) that charges --- $0 When we home schooled we never paid over a total of $800/year for our 5 children

Some points I want to make and then I'm finished. We are home schooling our grandchildren but, I understand many don't have this option. verses... Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Judges 2:10-12 10 And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel. 11 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim: 12 And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger. Deuteronomy 6:7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. We can't blame the secular world who doesn't know God's word for what we have failed to do. The Israelites lived among some of the most heathen peoples known to God. Children are ill-equipped… Why are children ill equipped? Where are they to receive the proper equipment? The kids are not equipped to deal with… Who is responsible to ensure our children are equipped with the tools they need? A Christian teacher, operating under the power of the Holy Spirit… It isn’t the teacher’s responsibility to insure the proper spiritual teaching is completed? How do you KNOW the teacher is operating under the power of the Holy Spirit? Deuteronomy 4:9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons; I still contend the problem is not the secular school system.

    Christian Schools - How Much?

Swath, I'm addressing this as a moderator here: the tone of this post is absolutely unnecessary. YOU are not the decider as to who is obeying the Lord or not re:education of their children. Please refrain, in the future, from asserting that someone who doesn't believe and practice what you do re: education is not obeying the Lord. You do not know the hearts, and you do not know how God is working in individual lives. So do not continue in that vein (and that goes for anyone else who wants to take up the mantle). Thank you. ~~~~~ Now - as to the question of cost: Our school is not anywhere nearly as expensive as most. For members it was (when our son was in school - I'm sure it's gone up a bit now) just under $1500/per year (per child). But there are a lot of other costs. Registration fee. Book fees. Band fee. And then there are our candy sales, in which parents take kids out selling - using their $ for gas, etc. It can add up after a while to be kind of costly - especially if the mom doesn't work outside the home (which we all know is actually best, but not always possible...especially if a family is going to send their child(ren) to private school). Sometimes, though, it isn't the money that is the cost...

swath - kudos to you for obeying the prompting of the Holy Spirit to put your kids in the Christian school when you wanted to continue homeschooling. We were in quite the same position, only now we wonder if it was actually Holy Spirit prompting or pressure from man. If we had it to do over...Anyway - your statement illustrates my point. Each head of the house must do as the Spirit prompts them to do in this matter. We can argue all day long that the public school is dangerous to kids. But the fact of the matter is so also are many Christian schools. We need to remember that even Christian teachers are human (and I can tell you all some absolute horror stories, but I won't...), and students are also human, coming from a variety of homes, with a variety of influence in their lives. And when parents put their child(ren) in a Christian school, it's all too easy to assume everything's fine because of it. But it isn't always...

In my city it costs on the low side $750 per month for 1 child. Higher cost schools are $1200 per month for 1 child. It is cost prohibitive. The money simply isn't there. That is more money than I spend on housing per month alone. I send my daughter to a public pre-k, and she is thriving and loving it. We are fortunate to have some great public elementary schools in our area. And I am sorry, but I see nowhere in the Bible that requires parents to send kids to private Christian schools. I believe there are good reasons to do so, but it is not possible for everyone. Do what you believe is best for your family and quit trying to make others feel inferior for doing the best they can for their family.

    Christian Schools - How Much?

In my town there was only one Christian School left and it closed down last year. It was a Catholic school and if you were in good standings with the church, active member, it was $3000.00 a year. If not an active Catholic, it was almost double that. I know I don't consider Catholic school to be really a "Christian" school, but if I had to choose between Catholic or public school, it would have been the Catholic school. We are currently homeschooling 2 kids with 2more soon to follow. If for some reason my wife and I can't continue this, we sill have to move or something. Public school will never be an option, although I don't consider it sin to send a kid to public school.

I would like to add to John's post an observation. The young couples in our church, those who grew up in a Christian home and received a Christian education and have a started a family just out of college are so much more mature and grounded than myself, my siblings and friends as we all grew up in the world. They are more like my parents and grandparents even though they too grew up worldly but back then more Christian values were part of everyday society, today they're all but gone.

For every family that obeys the Lord. It's a command and not an option. The verses keep getting presented to you folks over and over and you ignore or explain them away. When the Lord led us to our church and Academy it was further away from good paying jobs. We're now making 1/2 of what we used to, now considered "officially" poor. If there was no work, wouldn't the Holy Spirit prompt them and provide for them to go elsewhere or give them the means? We have many Michiganders in our church who left because of the Communism of Gov. Granholm and those thieves who run Detroit. I gave up my will years ago, our children attend the Academy because of the promptings of the Holy Spirit. We did homeschool for a time but I was too sick. Children are ill-equipped to withstand the onslaught of the world's values being forced on them for eight hours a day in school. The entire government school curriculum is completely opposed to God and promotes environmentalism even in math text books. All the history books talk of millions and billions of years ago, it's overwhelming for a child. The "gifted" kids are targeted and indoctrinated by the most radical teachers. The one year we sent a daughter to government school, her teacher was a Mao-loving Marxist. Let's not forget the homosexual activists roaming the halls and teaching them sex-ed either. Did you know that Bill Ayers and gang have highly influenced the school texts? The kids are not equipped to deal with the onslaught of the depraved values of their government school peers. Ten year old girls scantily dressed, cursing, texting, fighting, cheating, stealing... Yes, it happens in Godly schools too but not at the same level and it is dealt with swiftly rather than accepted and ignored. A Christian teacher, operating under the power of the Holy Spirit is far more effective than a rebellious teacher destined for hell.

A widow friend of mine actually had an anonymous church member pay for her 2 sons to go to Christian school one year. She was so grateful, but never found out who it was. If only more people were so charitable!!

Before I was saved my parents split time raising me. When I lived with my mom it was a struggle. At times I would come home and there was nothing to eat. And my mom worked too. I remember one time I came home and the only thing to eat was honey. Unfortunately I fell asleep in the chair with an open jar of honey I was eating which ran down me, the chair and onto the shag rug. I tried blaming my brother for it. Anyway, I'm sure there are saved people in this situation. A single mom who hardly makes any money, living in an area where there are no Christian schools, who can't homeschool herself because of circumstances. Maybe this is a good ministry for Christians with loads of money. Sponsor poor families who want a Christian education for their children. Or maybe the church itself running a Christian school supported by congregation. I do believe some churches do this. I know I spent six years on a Christian camp for troubled kids (sort of like Lester Roloff's ministry or Freedom Village in NY) which was supported primarily by two rich Christians in Pittsburgh, Pa as well as the offerings of other churches. We had a school on the camp too. There was one kid at the camp, who was 17 when he first arrived and whom only had a 5th grade education level. He graduated in two years with a college level reading ability using A.C.E. PACEs and became a counsellor himself at the camp. 'Nuff of the rambling.

Marilyn Manson, the rock singer, who was buddies with Anton LaVey (the author of the Satanic Bible) and has an album entitled Antichrist Superstar, went to a Christian school. Aleister Crowley (aka the Beast), whose parents were Plymouth Brethren, was homeschooled then sent to a private school run by evangelicals. Interestingly, my brother was saved at school. Some guy was going around to the schools and giving karate demonstrations in the auditorium then afterward he would give a gospel presentation and invitation. If I remember right my brother said about 14 kids raised their hands for salvation. Whether or not the school knew that the karate dude was going to do this I'm not sure. This was in New Jersey too. Being fair though, this was many years ago and the schools are probably much worse now. Although from my brother's stories they weren't too great then either.

Public schools are exceedingly worse than many other things because they have children for 12+ years with the express purpose of instilling worldly, ungodly values and beliefs into them. There is no comparing the effects of a child spending over 12 years being indoctrinated by the world and the devil to a child accompanying a parent shopping nor of an adult at work.

    Adultery

Actually, we have a marriage document for Adam and Eve.... the Word of God. The Word of God says they were husband and wife. Are we to argue with God and say there is no "Certificate of Marriage"? A good question would be, what is the difference in 'shacking up' and 'adultery'? Jesus told the woman at the well who was 'shacking up' that she was in adultery. John 4:18 (KJV) For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly. In most states of North America, common-law marriage is recognized as legal marriage. Yet, is not common-law marriage shacking up; i.e., adultery? While it is true we see no 'ceremony' uniting Adam and Eve, as we progress through the Scripture we see ceremonies progressing. Shortly after Jesus' ministry began here on Earth, He was invited to a wedding feast. Obviously the wedding specifications had progressed to some sort of celebration to announce the uniting of man and woman in holy matrimony. To me, common-law marriage today is nothing more than adultery... living with someone who is not one's spouse.as the woman at the well had done. Sure, our laws today seem to recognize such unions as binding, but God's Word indicates that 'shacking up' or 'common-law marriage' is nothing more than adultery.
