"Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men: Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid. Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?" (Isaiah 29:13-15)

  5. Hello Family of God, (Parentheses) within Bible passages cited are used to expound on the word/s in [brackets] which precede the parentheses. ALL CAPS are used for double emphasis; this is my way of saying, "It says what it says, and it means what it means." The Bible is self-explanatory (i.e., "the best defense of Scripture is Scripture itself") in its interpretation (i.e., "the perspicuity of Scripture"), but even to this day, we find unnecessary criticism from Biblical "scholars" and theologians alike. According to these "brilliant" minded men and women, they ask, "hath God said?" (cf. Gen. 3:1-5; Lev. 18:22; Isa. 66:1-2; Rom. 1:26-27; 1 Cor. 6:9-11; 15:3-4; 2 Cor. 5:17-21; Gal. 5:19-21; Eph. 5:3-5; 1 Tim. 1:9-10; 2 Pet. 1:3; Jude 7). I tried to post this in a sermon entry, but there were some technical issues which arose from the "other side" -- so I will be posting it here. This message may be "cut off" due to the Devil and his victims under his control through his sphere of influence operating in their minds. The Doctrine of the Triune God is being attacked more than ever today by televangelists and hirelings in the church visible. I will tearing down these strongholds which the Adversary has been at hard work. "And without controversy great is [the mystery of godliness] (Grk. to tes eusebeias musterion; i.e., "The Revelation of God in Christ disclosed within the pages of Holy Scripture"): God was [manifest] (Grk. phaneroo; i.e., "The Incarnation of the Eternal Son of God") in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory." (1 Timothy 3:16) The Doctrine of the Trinity (i.e., "The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit" as ONE in BEING; He is the One True and Living God) has been slandered by the unregenerate as polytheistic, heretical, an invention of man, and even stated as being demonic in origin. I will first begin by explaining in a nutshell what the Trinity is NOT; I will also be providing Irrefutable arguments to destroy every argument that raises itself against the knowledge of God; and we are all obligated to defend its Truth from all false teachings that raises itself against the knowledge of God, and to do so with the right spirit (cf. 2 Cor. 10:4-5; 2 Tim. 2:15, 24-25; 3:16; 4:1-5; Tit. 1:9; 1 Pet. 3:15). Below are a list of false doctrines and heresies that have been taught throughout church history in Christendom. - Arianism (aka "Nontrinitarianism"; i.e., "Jesus Christ is a creation of God, and not the Creator"). - Modalistic Monarchianism (aka "Oneness Christology; Modalism; Sabellianism"). - "Christian" Science (the fact that "Christian" and "Science" do not go together is an oxymoron; thus their "god" is NOT the God Revealed in Holy Scripture). - The "god" of Mormonism (i.e., "a" god, and NOT [the] God of True Christianity). - New Age God/Pantheism (this belief refutes itself). The listed above are all doctrines of demons (lit., "doctrines taught by demons"), and they were given through "epiphanies" (i.e., "willing or unwillingly human conduits") to unregenerate men and women who didn't take the time necessary to study the Scriptures with due diligence. As a result of their utter failure to take heed to the Command to be found as a workman approved by God, these lying spirits from the kingdom of darkness were given permission to deceive these men and women by using them as a mouthpiece to disseminate their demon doctrines (cf. 1 Kgs. 22:21-23; Matt. 12:43-45; 1 Tim. 4:1; 2 Tim. 2:15; Rev. 16:13-14). Arianism: Arius was an elder at Baucalis (c., 250-336), where our beloved brother Mark was martyred; and this is where the demons taught the ancient heresy of Arianism through the mouth of this heretical priest. He taught that our Lord Jesus Christ was a creature who was "begotten" by His Father at some point in time; at the same time, Arius believed that Christ was God the Son, and thus also God. Anyone with a modicum of common sense would tell you that God does NOT come "into" being. The Jews clearly understood that if someone declared themself to be the "son of" someone, he possessed the same [nature] as his father. "And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day. But Jesus answered them, [MY FATHER] (Grk. ho pater mou, lit., "my own Father", and not "our Father" cf. Matt. 6:9) worketh hitherto, and I work. Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, [The Son can do nothing of himself], but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise." (John 5:16-19) The Son can do NOTHING of Himself; this does not suggest that Christ has no power apart from His Father, but that they are ONE in Works, Sovereignty, Authority, Perfect Judgment, and Equal Honor; see Jn. 5:17-23). Although God's act of [Creation] ended after the sixth day, He continues His work by sustaining all thngs in existence ( cf. Jer. 10:12; Matt. 10:29-30; Rom. 1:20; Col. 1:16-17; Heb. 1:2-3). "Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and [said unto him], [My Lord and my God] (Grk. ho kurios mou kai ho theos mou)." (John 20:27-28) Thomas replied to JESUS ("unto Him"), and not to BOTH the Son (My Lord) and the Father (My God); and this isn't a reaction of surprise either (e.g., "oh my goodness!"), for such a response, if it were to be the case, would warrant a stern rebuke from Jesus Himself. Anyone who interprets this passage using the faulty eisegesis mentioned is obviously lying through their teeth, or had never been trained in New Testament Greek at all. "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of [the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ] (Grk. tou megalou theou kai soteros Iesou Christou); Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." (Titus 2:11-14) Once again, anyone trained in basic New Testament Greek would know of the Granville Sharp rule: When two nouns are used to describe a person, and the two nouns, which are not proper names (e.g., "John, Matthew, Peter") are joined by the copulative (i.e., "and"); and the first noun has the definite article (i.e., "the"), while the second noun does not, BOTH nouns are referring to the SAME person.

  10. Hi Pastor Matt, you're welcome. I hope they are helpful. I think we have to be careful of the type of exposure we give him. And, as I point out in my articles, it isn't just Steven Anderson. There is a growing number of churches becoming affiliated with him and his movement, thus growing and spreading his false doctrine. I think it is important to not simply tell the Body that he and they are wrong, but why they are wrong. To "contend for the faith" as we are told in Jude.
  11. Rebecca, It is a blessing to my heart to know that these lessons are a blessing to you. Alan
  12. Thank you @Bob Tuttle for the links. I do however think because of because of the little influence that Steve Anderson has in the IFB, that we give him too much exposure sometimes.

    Death/Cross

Hi, I have a question it says in Luke 23:43 that "today shall thou be with me in paradise", however did Jesus not go to the heart of earth for 3 days as described in Matthew 12:40 And I thought Jesus did go to hell Acts 2:31-" that his soul was not left in Hell" Does this not support soul sleep?, Why did he tell the thief on the cross "today you will be with me in paradise,When Jesus didn't even go heaven right away ?
  14. I believe it was a plague...that's it. I don't mean to sound like a smarty-pants...I simply believe it was a plague. All of the 10 plagues sent on Egypt don't fall under the disease/pestilence categories (unless I misunderstand the meaning of pestilence), and unless I misunderstand the final plague, it brought death without disease.
  15. Hmmmm. Brother Young, I am compelled to disagree with your understanding of Numbers 31:16-24 and with your understanding of Joshua 22:16-19. Concerning Numbers 31:16-24: 1. In verse 16 Moses did indicate that the women of Midian, "through the counsel of Balaam," had caused the children of Israel "to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor." 2. In verse 16 Moses did indicate that this trespass against LORD resulted in "a plague among the congregation of the LORD." (By the way, neither Numbers 25 nor Numbers 31 say anything about a plague being anywhere other than "among the congregation" of Israel.) 3. In verses 17-18 Moses did instruct the soldiers to kill all of the male children and all of the non-virgin females of Midian. (Note: They had ALREADY killed all of the adult males of Midian when they conquered them.) On the other hand, he instructed them to keep alive all of the virgin females of Midian. Yet Moses said not a single word about this being in order to deal with some plague/disease that might have existed among the Midianites. (Indeed, IF this was in order to deal with some plague of STD, why were the MALE children killed, while keeping alive the FEMALE virgins?) 4. In verse 19 Moses did instruct the soldiers and their spoils (including the female virgins of Midian) to remain "without the camp seven days," but he did not say a single word about this being to protect the congregation of Israel from some plague. 5. In verse 19 Moses did instruct the soldiers to "purify" all of their captive Midianites and any soldier that had killed someone or that had touched a dead body. Yet this did NOT require a purifying of those who might only have touched a LIVING Midianite. (Note: IF a plague of STD was the problem, then touching ANY Midianite, living or dead, should have been a problem for possibly passing that plague along.) 6. In verse 20 Moses did instruct the soldiers to "purify" all of their raiment, all that was made of animal skins, all that was made with goats' hair, and all that was made with wood; but he did not say a single word about this being to deal with any plague contagion. 7. In verses 21-24 Eleazar instructed the soldiers concerning the burning of that which would burn and the cleansing by water of all else, including their clothing on the seventh day; but he did not say a single word about this being to deal with any plague contagion. 8. In fact, there is NOT a single word about plague anywhere throughout verses 17-24. The ONLY mention of plague in this entire context is in verse 16; and that mention grammatically places that plague in the PAST TENSE ("And there WAS a plague among the congregation of the LORD"). Furthermore, that mention of plague in verse 16 ONLY speaks about a plague that was past tense "AMONG THE CONGREGATION" of Israel (not among the Midianite peoples or nation). 9. Thus any insertion of plague among the Midianites is CONJECTURE, and any insertion of dealing with plague through the cleansings of verses 17-24 is CONJECTURE. It is going BEYOND the revelation of Scripture. Concerning Joshua 22:16-19: 1. In Joshua 22:1-9 the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh have completed their obligation to help the other tribes of Israel to conquer the land of Canaan, and are thus permitted to return unto their designated land on the east side of Jordan as promised by the Lord through Moses in Numbers 32:16-33. There is NO indication throughout Joshua 22:1-9 that there is anything wrong, defiled, unclean, or plagued about this land. In fact, in verse 4 that land is described as the land of their possession, which Moses the servant of the LORD had given them on the other side Jordan; and in verse 9 that land is described as "the land of their possession, whereof they were possessed, according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses." Furthermore, there is NO indication throughout Joshua 22:1-9 that after they returned unto this land of their possession, they would be required to engage in ANY manner of purifying for the land. (Note: IF this land was defiled, unclean, or plagued, then their women and children had spent the entirety of the time that they had been helping the other tribes of Israel in such a plague infested land, as per Numbers 32:16-27.) 2. In Joshua 22:10 the problem is raised in that the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh built an alter by Jordan, "a great altar to see to." In fact, throughout verses 11-16 the ALTAR is the problem -- "And the children of Israel heard say, Behold, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh have built an altar over against the land of Canaan, in the borders of Jordan, at the passage of the children of Israel. And when the children of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up to war against them. And the children of Israel sent unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasseh, into the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and with him ten princes, of each chief house a prince throughout all the tribes of Israel; and each one was an head of the house of their fathers among the thousands of Israel. And they came unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasseh, unto the land of Gilead, and they spake with them, saying, Thus saith the whole congregation of the LORD, What trespass is this that ye have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following the LORD, in that ye have builded you an altar, that ye might rebel this day against the LORD?" Indeed, the rest of Israel initially viewed the building of this ALTAR as a trespass committed against the God of Israel, as a turning away from the Lord, and as a rebellion against the LORD. 3. In Joshua 22:17-18 the rest of the children of Israel challenge the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh with the following question -- "Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we are not cleansed until this day, although there was a plague in the congregation of the LORD, but that ye must turn away this day from following the LORD?" With this question they do NOT ask whether they were not cleansed from the plague of Peor. Rather, they ask whether they were not cleansed from the INIQUITY of Peor. Furthermore, with this question they reference the plague as being PAST TENSE; and they ONLY reference the plague as being "in the congregation of the LORD," NOT as being in any body of land. Finally, with this question they indicate their concern, NOT that some plague might continue to infest, but that the INIQUITY of turning away "from following the LORD" might continue. 4. In the closing portion of Joshua 22:18 and in verse 20, the rest of the children of Israel express their concern that a trespass by the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh might cause the Lord God to "be wroth with the WHOLE congregation of Israel," even as in the case of Achan. 5. In Joshua 22:19 the rest of the children of Israel offer the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh that IF they had found their land to be unclean, they could always move to the western side of Jordan with the rest of the children of Israel. 6. In Joshua 22:20-29 the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh explain their decision to build the alter, NOT AT ALL as a rebellion against the Lord, NOT AT ALL as an altar for sacrifices, and NOT AT ALL as a replacement for the alter of the Lord in tabernacle, but ONLY as a memorial of witness between them and the rest of the children of Israel that ALL were a part of the same people and the same covenant. 7. In Joshua 22:30-34 the rest of the children of Israel express approval for this altar as a memorial of witness, and thus return unto the land of Canaan with NO FURTHER CONCERNS. Indeed, the chapter ends positively with NO concern about any unclean, plague infested land, and with NO purifying activity of any kind. (Note: IF, as you say, the land was still infested with plague, then I would expect something to have been done about that, or at least some concern about it.) Remember, in Joshua 22:19 the rest of the children of Israel had offered that IF the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh had found their land to be unclean, they could always move to the western side of Jordan with the rest of the children of Israel. Since this chapter concludes positively with NO move by them from their land, it would appear that they were NOT AT ALL concerned that the land was at all unclean.

  17. Steven Anderson and the New IFB movement is, at the very least, a group of false teachers, and at worst a cult. 18. The plague was stayed in the camp but not eliminated. That's why Moses forbade them from entering the camp (Numbers 31:16) and inisiated the purification of everything that was to be brought in the camp from the cities they destroyed. The plague actually remained and festered in the uncleaned parts of the land as stated in Joshua 22:16-19 Thus saith the whole congregation of the Lord, What trespass is this that ye have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following the Lord, in that ye have builded you an altar, that ye might rebel this day against the Lord? 17 Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we are not cleansed until this day, although there was a plague in the congregation of the Lord, 18 but that ye must turn away this day from following the Lord? and it will be, seeing ye rebel to day against the Lord, that to morrow he will be wroth with the whole congregation of Israel. 19 Notwithstanding, if the land of your possession be unclean, then pass ye over unto the land of the possession of the Lord, wherein the Lord’s tabernacle dwelleth, and take possession among us: but rebel not against the Lord, nor rebel against us, in building you an altar beside the altar of the Lord our God.
  19. Indeed, Scripture clearly defines the sin of Israel as follows: Numbers 25:1-3 -- 1. "And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab." The sin of fornication. 2. "And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods." The sin of idolatry. 3. "And Israel joined himself unto Baal-peor." The sin of idolatry. "And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel." Indeed, Scripture clearly indicates that "there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD" because the women of Midian had "caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor." (See Numbers 31:16) However, the Scriptures do NOT actually say that this plague was "contracted" through sexual transmission FROM the women of Midian or Moab. That part is CONJECTURE. Indeed, Scripture clearly indicates that 24,000 Israelites died from this plague. (See Numbers 25:9) Indeed, Scripture clearly reveals how this plague upon the children of Israel was ended as follows: Numbers 25:7-8 -- "And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand; and he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel." This one act by Eleazar ended the plague, NOT the killing, burning, washing, and quarantine of Numbers 31:17-24. Indeed, the application of this account is Scripturally revealed for us today -- 1. That we should not engage in fornication lest our Lord God's anger be kindled against us. 2. That we should not engage in idolatry lest our Lord God's anger be kindled against. Here then is the problem: Calling this plague something more than a PLAGUE, by specifically defining the category of this plague's nature, is going beyond the revelation of Scripture. Furthermore, specifically calling this plague an "STD" then influences one's view on how they CONTRACTED this plague, since by definition an STD is contracted/transmitted through sexual activity FROM the sexual partner. Finally, having called this plague an STD and concluding that it was contracted FROM the Midianite women then influences one's application concerning how to deal with fornication, fornicators, and STDs today.
  20. This is starting to sound like "a rose by any other name" or a dinosaurs vs dragons debate..... Its clear they contracted it and died because of fornication with the women. Whatever the plague is called makes no difference to how they died, what they were commanded to do to eliminate it, and its application for us today.
  21. I myself would confidently contend that "plague" in these contexts means a physical disease of some kind. On the other hand, I would contend that it is conjecture to state that this physical disease was necessarily an STD of some kind for these contexts, or that it was contracted directly from the women with whom they fornicated. I would agree that STD would be a sound consideration for such a phrase as "a disease that is spread BY fornication." However, I am NOT aware of any Biblical passage that uses such a phrase.
  22. That sin removed the divine protection Israel had from God which opened up them to the plague fro the actual act of fornication which was broke out among them from God. Remember Apostle Paul states it was the act of fornication that caused 23,000 of them to fall and so the other 1,000 by the judges most likely. The whoredom started first and no sickness but then the worship happened and those who joined died from the act of fornication or execution. Out of curiosity, which definition do you think is meant, if not a physical disease or pestilence? Plague PLAGUE, noun plag. [Latin plaga, a stroke; Gr. See Lick and Lay. The primary sense is a stroke or striking. So afflict is from the root of flog, and probably of the same family as plague ] 1. Any thing troublesome or vexatious; but in this sense, applied to the vexations we suffer from men, and not to the unavoidable evils inflicted on us by Divine Providence. The application of the word to the latter, would now be irreverent and reproachful. 2. A pestilential disease; an acute, malignant and contagious disease that often prevails in Egypt, Syria and Turkey, and has at times infected the large cities of Europe with frightful mortality. 3. A state of misery. Psalms 38:1. 4. Any great natural evil or calamity; as the ten plagues of Egypt. PLAGUE, verb transitive plag. 1. To infest with disease, calamity or natural evil of any kind. Thus were they plagued And worn with famine. 2. To vex; to tease; to harass; to trouble; to embarrass; a very general and indefinite signification. If her nature be so, That she will plague the man that loves her most--
  23. When gossip and false accusations tarnish a testimony what does the Lord say is a wise response?
  24. With all due respect, the "plague" and its description is given in verse 5 of Numbers 25. "Plague" has different meanings other than a disease. The sin that they were guilty of was worshipping a false god...
  25. JERUSALEM’S GAY PRIDE PARADE (Friday Church News Notes, June 14, 2019, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - Jerusalem’s annual gay pride parade was held on June 6, with an estimated 10,000-15,000 in attendance. To counter ultra-Orthodox protests, the police had a massive presence, posting officers every 10 to 20 meters along the parade route and stationing helicopters and drones overhead. Israel’s first homosexual justice minister, Amir Ohana, appointed hours earlier by Benjamin Netanyahu, joined the parade. The city government refused chief rabbi Aryeh Stern’s request to remove rainbow flags, instead ordering the removal of protest posters.. Read More View the full article
  26. John, I am glad to know that this lesson is a blessing to you. I appreciate your participation in this series of lessons on "the day of the Lord." Your participation, insight, and helpful comments, have been compliment to these lessons and a personal blessing to me. Alan
  27. 2 Peter 3:3-15, “The Day of the Lord – A Time of Creation” 2 Peter 3:3-6, “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts. And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished. ” The apostle Peter previously stated in 2 Peter 2:5, “And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly.” In Genesis 6:17 we read these words, “And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.” God is going to destroy, to cause to perish, all of the living creatures that are on the earth, or under, heaven. The corruption of the dead human race, and animal kingdom, were left to rot on the face of the earth. Neither the earth, nor the heavens, were dissolved in Noah’s flood. In Genesis 7:19-23 we can know exactly what was destroyed, or perished, in Noah’s flood, “And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered. Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered. And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.” It is very obvious that only the earth, and the living things on the earth, and the fowls, perished, or were destroyed. The heavens above; the atmosphere above the earth and the the starry heavens, were not destroyed, or perished, or dissolved. Also, by way of context, the apostle Peter is referring to the flood of Noah as recorded in Genesis 7:6-24. The apostle Peter is not referring to an antediluvian flood that occurred between Genesis 1:1 and 2 that is often referred to as the, “Gap Theory.” 2 Peter 3:7, “But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire, against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.” The apostle Peter adds further information on what is going to perish in the fire in the end times; “But the heavens and the earth ...” The heavens and the earth are going to perish by fire. The judgment that the apostle Peter is referring to is clearly the “Great White Throne of Judgment” as recorded in Revelation 20:11-15 2 Peter 3:8-9, “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” The apostle Peter is very clear, ‘one day with the Lord’ can mean an indeterminate period of time and not just ‘one 24 hour day.’ The context of the word ‘day’ determines whether or not a 24 hour period, or an indeterminate period of time, is warranted for a correct interpretation of the passage. Therefore, ‘the day of the Lord’ can easily be a less than a thousand years, a thousand years, or more than a thousand years. In previous passages already studied, from the Old Testament, and the New Testament, it has been clearly proven that ‘the day of Lord’ is both a time of wrath and a time of joy. In this lesson, we will clearly see that ‘the day of the Lord’ extends to the creation of the New Heaven and the New Earth. Therefore, ‘the day of the Lord’ is an indeterminate number of years: a ‘period of time’ determined by the context of the passage to be accomplished exactly how God planned His Day. The truth that ‘a thousand years’ is as ‘a day’ with the Lord was also an Old Testament truth from the time of Moses. Psalm 90:4, considered as, “A Prayer of Moses the man of God,” states, “For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.” Psalm 90:4 2 Peter 3:10-12, “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?” “The Day of the Lord” when the ‘heavens shall pass away,’ and be ‘burned up’ and ‘dissolved’ has not come yet nor does it come during the events during the 7-Year Tribulation Period, nor does it occur before, or during, or after the 1,000 Year of Christ on the earth, nor does it occur during that short time, Revelation 20:7-10, when Satan is left out of the bottomless pit. Pastor Steven Anderson and ‘The Day of Lord’ and Revelation 8:7 Revelation 8:7 states, “The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.” Anderson teaches that the rapture is depicted in Revelation 6:12, the Sixth Seal, and in Revelation 8:3-4, the sounding of the first angel with the first trumpet. Anderson teaches that the ‘wrath of God’ begins as depicted twice in the book of Revelation: First in Revelation 6:13 and a second time in 8:7. Anderson teaches that Revelation 8:7, when the first angel sounds the first trumpet and a third of the trees are burned up with all of the grass, is, at the end of the seven years, “the day of the Lord,” and the fulfillment of 2 Peter 3:10-13. Anderson has previously stated, “Now, I believe that the day of the Lord is a LITERAL DAY. I’m not saying that it’s an hour period, I’m saying that it’s a day on the calendar as it were. I mean it’s an actual day, I don’t think it represents a longer period of time. I believe that the day of the Lord is a specific day.”i According to Anderson, “the day of the Lord” is literal day; a 24-hour period of time and not a longer period of time. Also, according to Pastor Anderson, Revelation 6:12 is ‘the day of the Lord’ when the rapture of the church takes place. Anderson states, “Now, according to Matthew 24:29, when the sun and moon are darkened, Christ comes in the clouds and we are gathered together unto him. So is this a good day for us, or a bad day for us? It's a great day. But if you're not saved, is this a good day when you are left behind to face the wrath of Almighty God? It's a terrible day, it's a horrible day.”ii Also, in his comments on Revelation 8:7, Anderson states, “Okay, well, if you go to the end of the seven years, you don’t see this kind of fire being rained from heaven. And look, in 2 Peter 3:10-13, when the Bible talks about the day of the Lord, being characterized by by the heavens being ON FIRE, and the elements melting with fervent heat, that fits better with the seventh seal and first trumpet than anything else in the book of Revelation that [sic] pre-millennial. And so right there, its very clear to see that a post-trib, pre-wrath view, is the obvious view when you read scripture. So that’s the first trumpet, fire coming down from heaven.”iii Anderson is mistaken and erroneously teaches that the “day of the Lord,’ as used by the apostle Peter in 2 Peter 3:10-13, occurs in a ‘one 24 hour day,’ and is fulfilled as depicted in Revelation 6:12, the opening of the Sixth Seal, and 8:7, the sounding of the first trumpet by the first angel. According to the apostle Peter, in the context of 2 Peter 3:10-13, when “the day of the Lord” occurs the heavens and the earth vanish away. So, let us see what occurs after Anderson’s “day of the Lord in Revelation 8:7. Anderson is in error because after the sounding of the first trumpet by the first angel, Revelation 8:7, the following separate judgments, in separate time frames, take place: (1) The second angel sounds his trumpet, 8:8-9, and a great mountain is cast in the seas and great destruction occurs. But nothing is dissolved. (2) Then the third angel angel sounds his trumpet, 8:10-11, and further great destruction occurs. There is an obvious length of time beyond one 24 hour day in this destruction. (3) Then the fourth angel sounds his trumpet, 8:12, and the Bible is very clear that the sun and moon are darkened. The smiting of the sun and moon is in fulfillment of the words of the Lord Jesus in Matthew 24:22, “And except those days shall be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.” According to the context, the days are literal days and not a period of indeterminate time. And, according to the very words of the Lord Jesus, “days,” plural, are involved being shortened in the sounding of the Fourth Angel. (4) In 8:13 the angel flying throughout the whole earth states that there are still yet three more trumpets, the three woes, to sound with separate judgments at separate time periods. (5) In Revelation 9:1 the fifth angel sounds, the first woe, and the bottomless pit is opened and the time period of the demonic destruction, from 9:2-11, take five months to complete. (6) In Revelation 9:12-20, the sixth angel sounds, the second woe, and the army of 2,000,000 men cross the Euphrates river. Certainly, this military maneuver takes over “a 24 hour day.” Quite frankly, the amount of time to plan, and then to execute, the movement of 2,000,000 men, their equipment, and the other logistics involved, is huge and certainly will take more than “a 24 hour day.” So, after Anderson’s “day of the Lord” the heavens and the earth are not dissolved, nor do they vanish away, and the only thing burned up is one third of the trees and the grass. Anderson is in error; serious error. The Day of the Lord - The Dissolving of the Earth The apostle Peter is also clear that when “the day of the Lord,” in the context of 2 Peter 3:10-13, occurs that the earth and the heavens (please note the plural), are dissolved. In Revelation 8:7 the scripture plainly states, “...and the third part of the trees were burnt up, and all the green grass was burnt up.” Obviously, the apostle Peter is not referring to Revelation 8:7 as Peter very clearly states that the earth, not just one-third of the trees and grass, and the heavens, not just a certain section of the sky, will be burned up and dissolved. The apostle Peter was clearly referring to the words of Isaiah when he stated the heavens “shall be dissolved. Isaiah prophesied, “Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.” Isaiah 51:6 In Revelation 20:11 we read, “And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.” It is my understanding, that at this time, the earth and the heavens are dissolved by fire, burned up, melt with fervent heat as the apostle Peter states, and the earth and the heavens are vanished away. The Day of the Lord - Promises from God The apostle Peter now turns the subject of, “the day of the Lord” to promises, given to all of the beloved saints, in all of the ages, to come. “Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. And account that the long-suffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you.” 2 Peter 3:13-15 The apostle Peter is clearly referring to promises as revealed in Isaiah 34:4, “And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down.” In my understanding of the word “host of heaven,” and, “all their host,” is a reference to the suns and other planetary bodies in the solar system up to the heaven of heavens: the abode of God. Genesis 2:1, “Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and the host of them.” The heavens is plural and the context is clearly a reference to the bodies in the firmament, stars, of heaven as recorded in Genesis 1:14-19 when God made the lights, the stars, and other planetary bodies, “hosts” of heaven. In Deuteronomy 4:19 God said, “And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the hosts of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.” God mentions the Sun, the Moon, the other Stars of the Solar System, the Galaxies, and the host of them; the hosts would be the smaller bodies in the galaxy, the meteors, the comets, the other moons, the Asteroid Belt, the Kuiper Belt, the Oort Cloud and any other body in the heavens. God further states, “And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded.” Deuteronomy 17:3 The Day of the Lord – A Time of Creation - New Heaven & New Earth The apostle Peter was referring to the promise given to all of the saints, in any generation, given to the prophet Isaiah. “For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come to mind.” Isaiah 65:17 “For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.” Isaiah 66:22 After the Great White Throne of Judgment, the apostle John saw the new heaven and the new earth. The apostle John recorded what his eyes saw in Revelation 21:1, “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.” The apostle John gave us further insight concerning the new heavens, “And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither the light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.” Revelation 22:5 As the apostle Peter states, at "the day of the Lord," we have the promise of the new heavens and the new earth. Therefore, "the day of the Lord" extends to the creation of the new heaven and the new earth as recorded in Revelation 21:1. Furthermore, as the apostle Peter clearly brought out, "one day with the Lord is as a thousand years" is an indeterminable amount of time that is governed only by the will of God and His timing and is not limited to a literal day: a 24 hour period of time. i Anderson, Steven Revelation 6 copied on April 30, 2019 <http://www.faithfulwordbaptist.org/revelation_6.html> ii Anderson, Steven Revelation 6 copied on April 30, 2019 <http://www.faithfulwordbaptist.org/revelation_6.html> iii Anderson, Steven Revelation 8 copied on April 30, 2019 <http://www.faithfulwordbaptist.org/revelation_8.html>
