Night before last my wife's nephew shot and killed his self right in front of his dad & mom at about 9:30 PM. The had gone to bedroom where they were sleeping and took a gun out of the gun case, woke them up. Thru sleep filled eyes they saw Cody standing at the foot of their bed with the gun to his head, he made a comment all I'm nothing but trouble and the gun fired into his head.

Just before this happened he had called over to his dad's father's house and asked his dads brother to meet him in the side yard by the trampoline. Brent went to the trampoline and was waiting for Cody and he heard a gunshot in his brothers house. Brent ran back to his dad and mom's house hollering there was a gun shot in Heath's house. Heath's dad, mom who is a nurse, and Brent rushed over. They found Cody laying in the floor dead from a gunshot to his head.

Since he had trouble in the Marines a few years back seems nothing went right for Cody, but Cody was his own worse enemy, it was one problem to another. Now he has ended his earthly problems, but will probably face even worse troubles for more than likely he did not have Jesus as Savior. You just never know what is going on in a person mind, never!

I can't even imagie being woke up like that and see that happen before your very own eyes.

:sad

There seem to be a lot of suicides lately. A woman who worked in the bakery with my wife called a friend and asked her to take care of her dog because she was going to kill herself and then she hung up and killed herself.

It's so sad to think of these people killing themselves to get away from what they think is so terrible here and knowing that what they experience next will be so much worse. :sad

Jerry,

I'm so sorry to hear of this loss. We got the call last Wednesday night from my wife's sister-in-law screaming and crying that she had just gotten home and found her husband (my wife's 52 year old brother) dead in his recliner of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Everyone is devastated and so sad. I understand your grief and will pray for you and your family.

I'm just telling how this happened as told to me from this young boys grandmother. I was the one who stood before this father and mother when they exchanged their wedding vows, he wanted his Uncle Jerry to take care of it and it was my 1st wedding.

He was 21 years of age and as you know from what I said going thru very trying times. I don't know the whole story about what led up to this. He had been drinking quite a lot and going out of control, recently they had to ban him from the house for their own safety as well as the safety of their young daughter, he went out of control busting down doors and tearing up furniture and wrecked his mothers pickup truck.

But since that time he had done much better. He had decided to attend nursing school, his parents had let him move back in, they were really trying to help him every way possible and he received a notice he had failed the entrance test, that evening at 9:30 PM he killed his self in front of father and mother.

As with any suicide an autopsy is done and that is in the process at present time. But all indications were he was not drunk and not on drugs when this happened.

Yes, there seems to be lots of suicides as well as murders, it seems on the increase. I don't have all the answers but maybe there are way to many of us who are in the pursuit of the wrong things in this world and pushing our youth to hard towards worldly things and not near enough of us who are totally in pursuit of God, Christ, and His ways. I do know the answer lies in God and Christ.

I mean on depression medication. Some people tend to get worst on certain depression medication.

and yes, rejection and feeling like a failure is very hard on some people (like failing a test). That's why I started that topic on the bible issue forum.

people have to learn handle it right.

I'm so sorry to hear of these happenings. :sad I'm becoming more and more convinced that the christian community needs to do more to reach out to people considering suicide, but I'm not sure how we'd do that. I would love to somehow reach out to people, but I don't know how. I wonder how long (on average) a person who is considering it thinks about it before actually doing it. It seems like if someone could/would reach out to them in that space of time, a life would be saved. It's just such a taboo subject though that I doubt many people would admit to even thinking about it.

you can find hints.

these people will often put themselves down (sometimes jokingly).
Or always trying to please other people. one of my neighbor was like that. she was always trying to please them. She ended up in suicide and I lost her forever.

But she also liked to be left alone alot.

We appreciate the prayers and thoughts, that's for sure, at present time I don't want to make no more comments on it, not until I learn more, at that time I will let y'all know more on this incident.

But as you can guess the gossipers are going very strong and this will hurt the family even more.

Suicide continues to grow even though we think "Oh I spoke to them at church "but do we try to include them in outside get togethers or really get to know them? They are surrounded by people yet so so vey alone. :sad

That is true, some people can have several people around them who loves and cares for them a whole lots, but yet feel completely alone, unloved, and no answer at all for their problems.

No matter what we do, many of them will not let no one reach them.

one of the few reasons is that they don't want to scare people off, put in a institution, or even lose their children. (another word, they are scared to open up)

But for some people depressive thoughts can only last for a few second to whole week. Then by next day/week, they are better and they think they gonna be fine and make excuses for their own depressive thoughts. Then it is a cycle all over again.

I believe there are many who suffer from depression from various reasons, but few who will admit it, seems as if most think it a shame to sufferer from depression.

I know that since about 96 to 98 when my troubles with neck, head started increasing, when my hands would go numb when I woudl try to use a screwdriver, a hammer, or even driving down the highway, plus the pain on top of that, there were times I prayed for death for relief, I had some periods of depression. I've spoke of them in my sermons, using them as an example hoping to help others, there is no shame in to, but there is shame in hiding and being dishonest.

But even during this time period it can be a bit depressing, especially when I try to do something and really wind up mostly bring pain to my body from having done it.

But all that said, I've never thought about killing myself.

I think if anyone will read much of Paul's writings in the Bible that they will understand that even Paul, of which there is no doubt that he was a saved man, suffered from a bit of depression.

The shame in anything is not admitting it, not being honest.

I would go as far to say, I've read a few post on this board where people probably were not being honest, instead of saying they rebelled against God, they will blame what they did on someone or even on a church. Some seem to blame their sins on another person or even a church, instead of being 100% honest and saying they reveled against God.

We all need to remember, God only told us, "IF" we confessed, that is "IF" we're completely honest to Him, them and only them will he cleanse us from all sin and forgive us.

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:9 (KJV)

It does not say, if we offer excuses, He will cleanse us and forgive us.

We can fool men, but we will never fool God, I feel those who try to fool God, may well be the ones who do drastic things, even suicide. God and Christ can help us, that is if we are honest, if were dishonest, even He can't help us. Remember He does respect us much more than we do Him, He made it plain, He will never forsake us nor leave us, everyone of us has forsaken Him in one way or another. Yes, I believe there are times when we lie to Him & or tell Him to leave us alone, that He will back off and let us destroy our very own self. But when we are honest to Him, with His help, we can overcome anything and everything that comes our way in this life. Its sad that some even try to deceive God who can look right into our heart and know the whole truth.

21 Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

Psalms 44:21 (KJV)

This father and mother don't have a clue, they just do not understand that living life without God, setting all the wrong examples, will lead to such a thing as a person committing suicide.

Their hearts are either seared over or they're so much in love with this world, drinking, drugs, hanging out with people who love such stuff, that they do not and will not listen to no one talk about God, Jesus, righteousness, in fact I fear they think they're right, and everyone who speaks about God is the ones in the wrong. When you now look in this father and mothers eyes, it looks as if no one is there.

And to think they've got a young girl, who is about 10 years of age, who is living thru the same upbringing as her brother had.

They are people that you just cannot get thru to, no matter how hard you try. Seems all you can do is pray for them.
