To me, cicadas sound like home and I find them soothing, relaxing and comforting. I know many people find them to be nothing but noisy and annoying.

No doubt, the older I get the faster time goes by. I look around and it seems it can't be July already and if I really think about it I'm wondering how it can be 2009 already!

This actually came up in Sunday school yesterday when we were discussing 2nd Peter and how the Lord is giving us time to come to him. Younger folks seem to be very impatient, wanting everything now, having little respect for their elders, and time for them seems so much different than older folks who see time flying by.

John, they sound terrible to me, my wife hates them to.

One thing I look forward to in heaven, peaceful quietness, I have not had that since about 1980 when my ears started ringing like crazy, Tinnitus.

I would love to go and set in the middle of the woods and not hear anything but the birds singing, a branch cracking in the tree top when a squirrel walks across it.

I hear this great big roaring sound 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 52 weeks per year, ever year. But yet, if Linda leaves the radio on with the volume turned down real low on in our kitchen, which is 3 rooms away from our bedroom, I hear it and it drives me nuts, but she says she can't hear it and she does not have Tinnitus as I do. Go figure.

Oh, my sermon yesterday morning was from 2 Peter.

What Manner of Persons Ought Ye to Be
2 Peter 3:3-15

3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lust. 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

Waking to the sounds of birds singing - I just love it!!
The smell of fresh mown grass
A soft summer rain
Summer thunderstorms - such beauty in the lightning!!
Green, green everywhere
Fireworks on the fourth
Picnics with friends
Open windows in the house
Later sunsets
After church on Sunday nights, going for a drive with my sweetie and sitting somewhere beautiful to talk

Our pastor suffers from ringing in the ears too. As he says, very annoying but really not anything to do about it.

I love getting up early in the morning and hearing nothing but the birds singing. So peaceful and relaxing and really makes me thankful to God for the beauty and wonder of His creation.

We finished up Second Peter in Sunday school last Sunday.

Riding through the country with my windows down.

Sitting on the patio watching birds.

Sleeping on my futon with my oscillating fan going. (Weird, I know, but the fan puts me to sleep).

Cook outs.

Fireflys and other summer creatures like "peepers", "whipper wills", bullfrogs, etc

Fishing.

Late afternoon rain showers.

The cool breeze through an open window at night.

Icecream

I too would love to get up in the morning and hear the birds singing, and not have that ringing roaring sound nearly drown the out.

But, when I get to heaven the old thing will have passed away, Wow, I really look forward to that in more ways than one.

(ick! just kidd'n 'bout prairie dogs!)

Actually, there is a Sonic Drive In 4 blocks from my house. If you park on the North side by the empty lot you can watch the prairie dogs at play while you eat. (They like french fries.) Nice summer fun!
