DSL is expensive, but my husband and I decided it was worth it (infinitely more so than Cable TV or satellite service) -- particularly because it allows both of us to look for jobs online while keeping the phone line free for incoming calls (from prospective employers). As a bonus, it allows us to watch YouTube videos. My mother-in-law used dial-up for years before she finally got DSL because PeoplePC took her one and only access number away (she lives in a rural area). Since she got DSL, my husband and I have shown her the world of YouTube. She's hooked.

The local phone company is supposed to be hooking up new lines they began running last year so they can provide internet and TV access through their lines as well as their phone services. I'm waiting to see what this is and the cost.

What exactly is DSL? Is that a satelite link? If so, do you lose your connection when there is bad weather in the area like satelite TV does?
