I liked the fact that as tough as he was, he never cussed. He could look the Bad Guys right in the eyes and and call them "every mother's son" and make it sound like he really meant it! Can you believe he was in 171 movies?

Yep, he made some great movies. One of the great things, no matter how tough he was, he was never full of himself. He played charactors intent on doing right even if that meant risking their life and getting rough.

I grew up watching John Wayne. Back then, a John Wayne movie was about the only thing my Dad would actually stay awake to watch!

We watched many of his movies at the Drive In - they used to charge two dollars a car load to watch their movies. So we would fill up the car with as many people as we could squeeze in there and go see the moving pictures at the picture show!

They don't sure make movies like that any more! You would NEvER EVER see John Wayne star in something as filthy or degrading as Brokeback Mountain I am here to tell you!

The Cowboys (1972) .... Wil Andersen

Wow, I can't beleive that movie is that old.

Does anyone know the movies that he died in? Someone told me with authority that it was 5, and proceeded to name them. I then mentioned "The Cowboys" and he didn't seem too happy. :eek

BTW... I don't remember the other ones.

As many bad guys as Marshall Matt Dillon faced he never cursed not even once in all the years he was on tv! Same thing for Pa Cartwright, Adam, Hoss and Little Joe! They all stood for truth, justice and the American way!

But Rawhide had the best theme song of those three shows. It also had Clint Eastwood as young Rowdy Gates!

Todays television shows nowadays can't even make it to the first commercial without saying at least one swear word, hopping into bed with someone or showing blood and guts and decapitations and stuff.

One of the independent TV channels in this area used to air episodes of "Gunsmoke" every evening at 8. For years my husband and I would watch, sometimes even after they started repeating. We saw a lot of familiar actors & actresses who must have gotten their start on Gunsmoke or one of the other TV shows from that era. One of those was the man who played Mr. French on "Little House on the Prairie". He had a lot of different roles on "Gunsmoke", quite a few of which were bad guys, but he played the roles well. Morgan Woodward was another "regular". He held the record for the most guest appearances on that show, with at least 18 different roles. Harrison Ford was also in one episode.

Yes, I know -- I watch too much TV. :ooops :shootme:
