Is that the song that goes...

Now let us have a little talk with Jesus,
Let us tell him all about our troubles,
He will hear our faintest cries,
And he will answer bye and bye,
Now when you feel a little prayer wheel turning
and you know a little fire is burning
You will find a little talk with Jesus makes it right!

In the little churches of Ballard County KY, every IFB church used to have at least one quartet and many had entire families who could SING!

So every 5th Sunday (only one or two months out of the whole year have 5 Sundays in them) there would be a 5th Sunday Singing - the churches took turns hosting the event, which lasted from sunup to sundown, and included a pot luck buffet of fried fish, hush puppies, tater salad, fresh picked balckberry cobblers etc ete etc.

They brought their own voices and their own musical instruments and blankets or folding lawn chairs to spead out and listen to all of the old time gospel music. People who would never set foot in a church would come to those singings and there were always plenty of opportunities to lead people to Christ if the Holy Spirit so moved them! Those were wonderful days gone by and I sure do miss them!

Yes, that would be fantastic! Most of the churches around here do very little anymore. One of them has a "church picnic" in the park each year. However, only the folks at that church generally know when it will be so a great opportunity is lost.

Another church sometimes brings some contemporary singers to town. Usually they put up a poster at the post office and only their own people show up for the event.

There are so many ways the churches could enliven their own folks while reaching out to the community but they don't truly seem interested anymore. :? :(
