      Psalms 119:1-8                                         Sep. 5 - Oct. 2, 2019
1 ALEPH. Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.
2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.
3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.
4 Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently.
5 O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!
6 Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments.
7 I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments.
8 I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly.
The following verse stood out to me...
5 O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!
At first glance it seemed to me this person’s soul is poured out with intense desire to have God’s direction in keeping His Word.
I made a small wood fire in our backyard for my granddaughter, Julia, since she would be staying overnight with us. My wife and Julia stayed outside at the fire for about half an hour. Then, I found myself alone to watch the fire die out on a particularly lovely evening. So I took my verse from above and began to repeat it for memorization. As I repeated the verse, I tried to contemplate the words and apply them to what I was seeing around me.
The moon and stars were out now peering through the scattered clouds above.
[Genesis 1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. Genesis 1:17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, Genesis 1:18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.]
      Thought 1
The moon has stayed his course since the day God created him, also the stars, obeying the statutes directed by God from the first day they were created. Can you imagine God’s direction to the Moon and stars, “moon you will have a path through the sky above the earth, stars you will occupy the firmament above the moon and be clearly visible in the cloudless night sky.”
Then, the trees, grass, even the air we breathe obey the statues God gave them from the beginning. None of these creations have souls, none have hearts, none have intelligence, but they all observe God’s statutes, His instructions for their limited time on earth.
      Thought 2
What if we were like the moon, stars, trees, grass, or the other creations which have no soul? We would be directed to keep God’s statutes without choosing to keep them. This is not the image of God, there would be no dominion over other creatures, or over the earth. We would not be capable of experiencing the joy and peace of learning the love of God
Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
      Thought 3 (October 2, 2019)
Is the psalmist pleading God to force God’s statutes to become the man’s ways? No, he is speaking of his own failure in keeping God’s statutes and his desire to keep them, very much like Paul in Romans 7:14-25.
God doesn’t work through force to turn men from their ways that they would desire His statutes or desire God Himself. Men must reject (repent) put aside his own ways and voluntarily seek God and His statutes.

Of course this all comes back to sin. If we were following the Word of God only married women the Lord blessed with pregnancy would be having children.

It's hard to tell from what I've read, but it kind of sounds as if this woman was obsessed with having children as a teen and was likely trying to get pregnant; which would at least partly explain why her mother was glad she couldn't get pregnant back then.

That's true, but I've seen nothing to indicate these people are Christians so it's likely both parent and child have said many things to one another they shouldn't have.

This is another example of the consequences of sin and of sin run rampant.

31 And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.

Gen 29:31 (KJV)

If God is the one who opens and or closes the womb, and that seems to be the case, them no child of God ought to use IVF.

Of course this young woman care no one thing about God nor God's way, if she did she would be married with children not unmarried with children.

She is completely rebelling against God and walking in the ways of her father, the old devil.

This is one reason why I don't really support union and getting rid of marriage that define one man and one woman and I think there should be restriction who can have IVF and such to married couple who have a reproduction defect.

I agree with you, but the government shouldn't be the one regulating this because the government is incapable of doing so. The only thing we can hope for in such an issue is honest people, which there isn't much left of, and the government can't do anything about it since if society is made up of dishonest people, so is the government.

Uh so even though I am married and we are both Christians God must not think much of us because we have never been "blessed " with a pregnancy .........

Study the Bible, it does teach that He, God, is in control of the womb, whether you like it or accept it.

And yes, God's truth is easy for me to write out and speak, I try as best I can to be in agreement with Him and obey it, even thought the majority of the people on this earth disagrees with Him and rebels against His Word and those who hold to it

Your doing great, accusing me of being uncaring and accusing John of saying God does not think much of you and your spouse. Neither one of us said such a thing.

Why you and your spouse haven't been blessed with a child, I have no idea and I would not even try speculate His reason, but I do know one thing, God knows, God knows best, such things as this needs to be left in His hands thru prayer, not taken out on fellow Christians. You should not be accusing people who proclaim God's truths to be uncaring and or saying God does not care much for you and your spouse, that will not help you nor anyone else the least bit.

I've know several couples who could not have children, they each did a variety of things of which I'm listing 3 of them.

Some accepted it as God will for them and actually live happily.

Some spent many dollars on doctors trying to have a child, a few succeeded thru mans intervention.

Some adopted children and were blessed many times over by God for having done this for children who had no family and or family that rejected them. I grew up in such a family as this.

Its your and your spouse decision on what steps to take, but all of them do not agree with God's Word. My prayer for you and your spouse, that God gives you both peace deep down in your heart that can only be obtained from Him and that you both we be able to clearly see His guidance in your lives
.

I belive God gave us doctors to help fix whats broken .If only I was wealthy I too would have done IVF .

I know many a person who has children who doesn't deserve them .

Adoption is actually even more costly than IVF .Its also more intrusive to do adoption because you have to deal with the government more .
It easy for you to say these people "accepted " it .Only them and God know for sure .

So a married couple who would love to have a baby but cannot God closed the womb .
But the teenager who had a one night fling and gets pregnant God opened hers ?

Oh well I can see another reason I dislike coming here because people don't really understand and care about all situations .

I mean its fine and dandy when said teen gets pregnant lets welcome them and throw a shower for them .
When married couple finds having a baby not so easy lets critize and tell them how they have to live with it and not offer any support .

Pregnancy is but one of a myriad of ways the Lord blesses us. God does not bless all the same or at the same time. As Scripture tells us, God's ways are not our ways. Along with this, God's timing isn't always our timing and God's plans are not always the same as our plans.

God has His perfect reasons for one womb to be barren and another to be fruitful. God also has is perfect reasons for one wife not becoming pregnant for years and another becoming pregnant on her honeymoon.

Have you ever read any of the great stories of faith written by women who were barren for years, and even of some who never bore children? These women eventually discovered the reason why and they praised God for what the Lord was able to accomplish in their lives through this (both with regards to their personal growth in Christ and with fulfilling Gods plan for their lives).

IVF is NOT a doctor "fixing what's broken"; it's a doctor doing that which is outside the bounds of Scripture.

It's not for us to judge whether another "deserves" a baby or not. Only God knows the beginning from the end. It's for us to draw close to the Lord and base our lives upon the Word of God. We are not to compare our lives to others (which breeds covetousness, jealousy, envy, anger, etc.), but rather we are to examine our hearts in the light of God's Word and determine to worship and praise Him no matter our circumstances and to seek to learn and fulfill His perfect will for our lives.

Scripture is clear that it's God who opens and closes the womb, for His own perfect reasons.

Scripture tells us to be content in all things. If God has closed a womb it's for a good, a perfect reason. It's up to the husband and wife to seek God's face and discover what it is the Lord has planned for them.

Who are you, our for that matter I, are any human, to decide on who deserves children or not. As for me, I leave such things as that up to God.

Money cannot buy peace of mind, but it can be had from God.

Remember, man's way is not God's way, many be bent on rebelling against His way.

LAF, I'm really sorry to hear about your family situation. I can't comment on the rights and wrongs of what John and Jerry have said, but I do want to quickly say one thing about people not caring. Unfortunately I don't think you will ever find the empathy and support you need on an internet forum such as this--it's just the impersonal nature of these things. Good for advice sometimes, bad for emotional support.

For what it's worth, I'm thinking of you.

Thank you I actually do frequent a board who does care more about such things .I wish people would learn to care about all people in these situations .Its very very hard for us who do have such problems .

I don't think the thoughts/beliefs against IVF are edifying right now. Many godly people differ on the topic of IVF and I think that you are completely ignoring the pain that is so apparant in LAF's posts. Some things are just better left unsaid.

Thanks for posting this it is painful when others act like you should be fine like this .Yet I really wonder if they were in my shoes how they would truely act .

To me, God's truth is the most important thing, proclaiming His truth is important to, and being sure what I proclaim is important to me.

Now, if its something someone is not going to like, does not want to hear, think that its harsh, its uncaring, that I can't help, I surely am not that way.

But the truth is, God can give a person complete peace, but it will not come to them by me or anyone else compromising, but only by staying in God's truth. Now there are many churches, pastors, out there that will speak exactly the words you seem to want to hear, everyone to be in complete agreement with you.

LAF, I woudl love for you to have peace about this issue, that can only come from God. Now I would in no way say what God's will be for you and your spouse, for as we all know, none of us knows God's mind, why God does certain things, why He blesses certain people with certain things of which he withholds from others, only God knows that. But because He does this, it does not make those He with holds certain things from any less or worse Christian that any other Christians.

We all know to, that God does not give us everything we pray for, that does not mean God does not love us, does not care for us, or that He is uncaring, just as a person proclaiming God's truths does not make them uncaring.

The one most important thing for all of us is to want God's will to be done in our life, to walk hand in hand with God, them we will be close to God, them we will start having that wonderful blessed peace that can only come from Him. As I've stated, I would love for you to have that, but I will not tell you untruths in order to please you and give you a false sense of peace, but there are plenty of pastors and churches out there that will give such stuff to you.

I must say to, as I have grown in Christ I have had to correct many things in my life, correct it to God's way, I had to come in agreement with God, if I had of thought those who were preaching to me, teaching me, as uncaring, had rebelled against the truths, I would not be where I am, and probably right here and now I would have just said what you wanted to hear no matter what God's way really is, in order to make you feel better. But the truth is, if I had done that, in the long run, I would not have been the least bit of help to you.

I'm not your enemy, I'm not agaisnt you, I said nothing with the prupose of hurting your feeling's, but only pointing you towards God's truths, my prayer is that you can have that blessed wonderful peace from God.

To be clear, I have love and empathy for all of my brothers and sisters in Christ. I don't think anyone who has pointed out the biblical aspects of the topic have been harsh. As Jerry as already stated, the Word of God is to be our standard. That means always, in good times and bad times; when things go our way and when they do not.

My family and I are facing terrible stress at this time as outside, wicked forces have ratcheted up their attack upon us. Things have been so bad that I have no doubt if it were not for Christ in my life I would have reached the point of frustration and despair that would have me ready to just give up; why live a good clean life when one lie can lead to such severe governmental intrusion, where my wife and I are viewed as liars and accused of refusing to cooperate because we won't say the lies are true. We are at jeapardy of having our children taken away from us, at jeapardy of having some form of criminal charges filed against us for "refusal to cooperate", at jeopardy of having our oldest son kicked out of the Christian home due to government inteference; of basically having our entire lives stripped from us. I spoke with a lawyer and was told at this point these social workers can do just about whatever they want and there is nothing we can do unless they actually take the children or file a criminal charge; we were advised to "ride it out" and see what happens and he did say we were doing the right thing by not admitting to something that's not true even if that puts us at further risk.

I say all that to point out that even in the midst of this tragedy where a worse case scenario could see our children taken from us and my wife or myself or both of us criminally charged with something and perhaps even forced to do jail time, that I must yet trust God. Trust that He is in control and in some way this will be turned for good. I readily admit I can't see God's plan in this right now but I will yet trust Him and praise Him even though I don't feel like being praiseful.

It breaks my heart to consider the pain and torment so many face. How I long for the day when we will be with Jesus forever and all of this will end. Until then I pray the Lord's will be done and that He would strengthen me, and all of us, for that which we must face and endure.

John, I'm really sorry to hear about your family situation--I've read your previous posts about it too.

A question that this thread has brought up in my mind: what Biblical support is there for the notions of tact and sensitivity? Are there better and worse times to point out God's truths, or can Biblical truth never be given in an untimely manner?

I'm not pointing the finger at anyone here; this topic has come up on the forum a few times in the past, though never specifically discussed, and it has come up again in this thread so it made me think about it.

"So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great."
