Wow. After our counseling sessions, my wife and I sat down with the bride and groom and helped them plan their wedding. They had no clue, and their parents weren't much help. There were a couple of secular love songs they wanted to include, which were OK with me, and they kept everything else fairly traditional, including the "obey" in her vows. They also included a couple of hymns. I outlined my sermon for them, not for their approval, but so they would know what to expect. The only real "demand" I had was that the official photographer not take pictures during the actual ceremony to prevent distractions. The photographer agreed, and after the ceremony we staged some of the poses the photographer wanted to capture (that also allowed the bride to touch up her makeup, which was not in the best shape with all the crying she did).

The ceremony was for them, and I just helped guide it along. Now, if they brought out snakes or animal sacrifices, then we would've had a problem!

There are no "specific" wedding vows nor even a ceremony required in Scripture, only principles of marriage that man has built the vows and ceremony around. So, there's nothing in Scripture to prohibit renewing your wedding vows either. In fact, I think it's a good idea, just to remind husbands and wives why they committed themselves to each other in the first place.
