Members robycop3
The whole Lent/Mardi Gras/Ash Wednesday/Maundy Thursday thingie is man-made hooey taken from PAGAN observances. I observe NONE of it, except Easter, which is a celebration of CHRIST'S resurrection, the very foundation of Christianity. Thankfully, I have noted that more & more Easter observances are based upon CHRIST & HIS RESURRECTION insteada egg-laying bunnies, etc. Remember, CHRIST observed PASSOVER, not Easter. But, as a man, He was a JEW, & passover was ordained BY GOD for Israel FOREVER, as a memorial of His taking them across the Red Sea by His power. No one else is REQUIRED to observe passover, but we CAN, long as we follow God's rules same as Israel.
Members Jerry
Interesting conversation. Lent is evil, regardless of the motivations behind it. Just because we get involved in something with good motives and are not aware of what is wrong with that thing doesn't make it okay. When we learn that the thing is wrong in itself, then we need to make a choice to abstain from it. About motives: While we may be able to do something wrong with "good" motives, sin is not acceptable to God. We may do right with wrong motives - and again, that is not acceptable to God. What we need to do is learn what is right, then do that with the right motives. Those will be the works that are not burned up. Works done to glorify the Lord, edify the brethren, show compassion, win the lost, etc. - those are the kinds of works that will last. Members His by Grace
Doesn't this fit with ...To him that knows it is sin then for him it is sin. I'm remembering -not well I might add- a verse that goes something like this. Do you know this verse Jerry?
Members Jerry
PrOBably referring to one of these two: James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. Romans 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
