Ode To Jack

Five months ago a beagle mix wandered into our area. My wife first started to care for him and eventually we adopted him and named him Jack. I really didn't want another dog. So much for that. Anyway, he became ill suddenly like he had been poisoned or something. Karen took him to the Vet but when it came to the time when the Vet said we needed to put him down she left it up to me to get that down. I had no clue it would bother me so bad until I made that call. Now you see it has me up in the wee hours writing a poem and sharing the experience with you. I have a ten year old mini-dachshund and if after five months I have this much grief I dread when Shiloh (means peaceful) rests in peace. Dogs really are a man's best friend but I won't be seeking any new friends after this.

Ode to Jack

Oh Jack, why did you have to come along

Since so soon from us you would be gone?

We barely even got to know you

But still we just had to love you.

We knew that before you had been treated mean

Since you were somewhat shy and fairly lean.

You first seemed to threaten to chew off my leg

Then to be always at my side you would beg.

Your comic antics we would often spoof

And lovingly called you
