What is wrong with a little bet??

I had a friend ask this question, He asked for verses to, so please include any you can along w/references. Thanks!

Why do we have to bet? What we have to ask ourselves is why do we need to bet? It may be possible that one would find their answer there.

There isn't to much scripture directly against it, most scripture against it is in broad principles(use your money wisely etc.). You should be able to draw enough from the principles though to be clear that gambling not right for a Christian. Hear are a couple verses.

"Proverbs 13:11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase."

This verse teaches God does not bless and a Christian has no business trying to get "easy" money.


"Proverbs 28:22 He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him."

"Proverbs 28:20 A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent."


These verses teach against greed, which is usually a big part of gambling.


"1 Timothy 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition."

This one is more of the same, about greed.

If the person says "I do it for the fun of it not the money" tell them to avoid the appearance of evil, just give you the money, that way you both can have fun. :thumb :bonK:
