Do you?

Add up the ages and dates given in the Bible and you have approximately 6000 years, give or take 100-200 or so years (depending on how you figure out the time from Abraham to the Exodus). There are dates in the Bible all the way from creation to the reign Solomon and his building of the temple, and the splitting of the kingdom. Historically, we know when David and Solomon reigned. So we have years listed when we cannot be certain historically - and we have history to back up where the Bible itself doesn't give us exact dates.

Now isn't that a much better thought out comment then;

Light was created 6000 years ago.

Nothing wrong with the first comment. I was at work, with the phone ringing and someone coming into my office, so I hit the Submit button without elaborating.

There are a couple of minor points I would disagree with - but I appreciate the work you put into that. It certainly goes to show that the earth has only been around for about 6000 years (give or take a few hundred).

The other thing about light is, is that it doesn't travel at a constant speed. I read an article a few years ago about how they (scientists) had slowed light down in the labratory to almost a stop and then had speed it up to almost twice it's normal speed. So if humans with our limited understanding of the universe can do that. I'm very confident that God can do anything he wants with light.

That point can also be used against critics who argue the fact that stars are apparently millions and billions of light-years away from Earth and therefore would not yet be visible if they were only a few thousand years old. But not only is light not constant, but time is also not constant. Time expands and contracts depending on how close an object gets to the speed of light. So many things, even things as old and known to mankind as time and light, are so far beyond our comprehension that it's almost funny to think that we could possibly know better. :)

Another thing to remember is that the distances "scientists" give for most stars are wild speculation. The use of stellar parallax is extremely dubious. The smallest margin of error in the angle can produce massive errors in the resulting distance. Evolutionists will argue that they use stellar parallax for near stars then use the radiance of Cepheid stars to determine the distance of further stars, but they ignore the variable of dust and other interstellar debris that can and will occlude the light from any given star, making even it's radiance a wild guess.

The fact is you can't go back very far into the past, or very far away from earth, and have anything more then guesses and theories. The farther away, distance or time, the least likely you are to be able to determine truth due to the increase of variables, some that cause an effect and yet leave no evidence.

Good thing God gave us the bible, because He knew how stupid we are lol.

We believe the Bible because we believe God not because we have the evidence that proves it is true but rather because God says it that settles it!

Num 23:19 God [is] not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do [it]? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

If you would like to study this creation in depth. There are a couple of sites that may help. They are most informative.

Regarding the original post...

God created light and it existed before the creation of our sun. God says that light will continue to exist after the creation of a new Heaven and a new earth and there won't be any sun at all for HE is the light.

Revelation 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

Revelation 22:5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

For you perhaps. But lots of Christians I know didn't just put their faith in God as soon as the first Pastor said to them 'believe this', but rather they read the Bible themselves and looked into its claims versus all the other world views that also claim to be the truth, and were convinced by what they saw. They put their faith in it for sure, as we put faith in *anything* we believe in, but there was some seeking and some examination of 'evidence' involved too. Perhaps this was the wrong approach for a Christian, I couldn't say.

God says that the Jews in Berea were more noble than the ones in Thessalonica because they had ready minds and sought the truth instead of just believing whatever Paul and Silas said to them.

Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Christianity is very much an intelligent "religion" (if you want to call it that) and God doesn't want us to park our brains in neutral once saved. His gifts to mankind include intelligence, study, discovery, etc.
