Embryos containing human and animal material have been created in Britain for the first time, a month before the House of Commons votes on new laws to regulate the research.

A team at Newcastle University announced yesterday that it had successfully generated ?admixed embryos? by adding human DNA to empty cow eggs in the first experiment of its kind in Britain.

The Commons is to debate the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill next month. MPs have been promised a free vote on clauses in the legislation that would permit admixed embryos. But their creation is already allowed, subject to the granting of a licence from the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA).

Scientists in a few other countries have claimed to do this and other bizarre things but I've yet to see any actual proof of "success" from their efforts.

Thanks Qwert, they make it sound so big and grand but yeah, I just don't think that's gonna work.

Anyway...what's the point? To make some kind of monster...and then what? They ought to be putting all that talent towards curing cancer or something...not MAKING it.

Some of these scientists claim they are wanting to grow human parts that can be harvested and used help people and save lives.

Did you ever see the mouse that had the human looking ear growing on it?

I was told the only way to find a cure is to find what caused it.

I don't they should do this, it will push them to go to the next level. They already have a goal of making it live for six days. tomorrow, it will be 6 months, then make it a person...which is not a good thing if his ability is lower than a child with severe autism.. and you are not allow to kill him..He will have to suffer in a institution for the rest of his life. It better for them not to make him exist at all.

about harvesting... there was a scifi movie about that. But it was more about cloning to harvest body parts. I love scifi movies.. they show what would be like if scientists went too far.

Yes, all too often the stuff of sci-fi becomes reality. One of the arguments some use for cloning is indeed for use in harvesting whatever might be needed for the person the clone was made from. There was a movie called The Island, or something about an island, which dealt with this subject a few years ago.

Wow. That is rather scary if you ask me. I really don't think that scientists should be playing as a god like this.
