Members heartstrings
Quote To begin with, it should be noted that there is no specific word for “spirit” in 1 John 4:3. The English word is supplied by the translators to clarify the obvious meaning of the text, that it is the attitude or character of antichrist of which we are to be wary. Those who have this spirit are liars (1 John 2:22), mainly because they refuse to accept the truth that Jesus is the Christ. Further rejection of that truth centers around denial of the incarnation of Christ, that Jesus is the Creator God come in human flesh (1 John 4:3 and 2 John 1:7). Those who would deny that truth embrace the very core of all lies and become anti Christ. Then there is also a type rejection that is much more subtle. Examples I am more familiar with are: Saying that one can lose their salvation. This denies the true character of God's trustworthiness. It's "another Jesus" Saying that God chooses some sinners for salvation and others for damnation. This denies the true character of God's love. Neither is this the true Jesus. One can SAY that "Jesus is come in the flesh" while at the same time their spirit denies Him. They do it every day. These will one day say "Lord, Lord have we not prophesied in thy name.........?" 1 John 4 King James Version (KJV) 4 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. Administrators Jim_Alaska Posted January 29, 2019 Administrators Share Posted January 29, 2019 Yes, this sort of thing is very prevalent. This is especially so with cults such as the JW's. While they will admit that "Jesus is come in the flesh", they vehemently deny that this points to Jesus is God come in the flesh.
