hell and spirit

hi,

is there a hell before judgement day? what i mean is when a bad, criminal person dies, does his spirit will immediately go to hell?

what will happen to our spirit when we die? does our spirit will stay in our body and sleeping until the judgement day or second coming? suppose i have a love one who passed away, where does his spirit go now? does his spirit will immediately be judge or sleeping until the judgement day?

please help me about this, i am sincerely asking since i am newly save (i was catholic before and since i realized that there is no purgatory, the question raised in my mind)

Yes, his spirit does go to hell pre-judgement.

"Luke 16:22- 23 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom."

"Revelation 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death."

"2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."

Paul here is teaching that if the body of a Christian is dead he is with the Lord, and we know Christ is in heaven.

Also this verse:

"John 11:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?"

Here Christ is saying that a Christian will never die. Obviously the body dies but the Spirit is with the Lord; someday the body will rise again as well.

i thought the hell is not yet created until the second coming where everybody will all be judge at the same time.

Hi Pablo...hell already exists for the unsaved sinner. The unsaved are already in hell...then, at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ...all unbelievers already in hell will be judged again. This happens at the Great White Throne judgement seat for all unbelievers. There are 2 throwns...one for the believer (The Judgement Seat of Christ) and, one for the unbeliever (The Great White Thrown). This is in the Book Revelation, which is the second death for the unbeliever. The Lake of Fire was created for the Devil and his advocates. BTW, Satan and God's fallen angels (demons) are NOT in hell, yet. The Lord will send them to the Lake of Fire at his Second Coming. Satan can only be in one place at one specific time. He is always where there is the most turmoil. 1/3 of Satan's advocates are at war with the Lord's 3/4 good Angels all over earth. While we have the good Angels to protect us, it is MOST CRITICAL to pray directly to Jesus Christ. Does this make sense? I hope I explained it to you. I will look for scriptures, as well. Hell already exists, and the lost who have died are already there. They are in Hell for rejecting Jesus Christ, but the level of punishment (based on their wicked deeds) will be determined at the great white throne judgement.

Does anyone have any more verses to back up what Seth said? I have a SDA neighbor who I've been talking to a bit, and I don't have much to contradict her doctrine of soul sleep.
For instance, how does the verse about "the dead know not any thing" work into this? Is that verse only relating to the idea that the dead have no more part in the activities of the living?

Read the verses around that verse. It is not saying the dead have no knowledge whatsoever, but they do not know anything that happens to those who come after them (ie. later generations) on earth.

I don't quite understand why you use the word criminal, the word used ought to be a lost person, a person who reject Christ as Savior.

Surely there are crimmnals who are in jail who have been saved from their sins.

Quite clear there was no soul sleep for the rich man, he went right to hell, in hell we know he could feel torment, and also think about his five brethren whom he felt woudl come to hell as well. He even cried for mercy, but he got no mercy.

That man has been in hell ever since, now one day he will stand before the judge, them cast into the lake of fire which is the 2nd death.

Phi 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Phi 1:22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labor: yet what I shall choose I wot not.
Phi 1:23 For I am in a strait between two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

Its quite clear in the above verse Paul taught us, that for a believe, one who has Jesus as Savior, when they die, they go to be with Christ, right them, no soul sleep. Soul sleep is false teaching.

Remember that when Lazarus died angels came to get him.

3 or 4 years back a lady who I went to church with had a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. At the hospital the doctor came out and told the family, I've done all I can, there is nothing else a doctor can do for her.

The family went in to be with her. Wanda was lying there real peaceful breathing lightly. After a few minutes with them standing there gathered around her she opened her eyes, at first a smile came on her face as she looked towards the celling.

Them she looked around and saw everyone standing around, them looked from face to face making eye contact not saying a word to anyone. Them she looked back towards the ceiling and said, "I must now go, the angels have come to take me home." As soon as she said this she closed her eyes taking one last light breath of air, them stopped breathing.

I wish I could have been there that day, Wanda and I talked many times about Christ, heaven and such at a coffee shop. I recall her questioning me about the glorified body, I can still see the smile on her face as she said, "I can't wait to get my glorified body and be with out Lord." Of course Wanda want get her glorified body until Jesus comes back.

Soul sleep is a myth. But some of those who believe such things, no matter what you say, many will not let go of it. Pray for them and pray for God to help you have the ready answer. Never know, you just might say the right thing to make that person understand the truth and or to think about it and later on come to the knowledge of the truth.

Col 4:6 Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

1Pe 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

No doubt, we are suppose to have ready answers.

Yes and no, when the lost die they go to hell and are in torments, BUT they are later judged by Jesus Christ at the great white throne judgement in revelation and cast into the lake of fire which is the final judgement.

You could say hell is sort of like a jail holding someone after they are arrested but before their trial, and the lake of fire is like being sent to prison after the judge sentences them.

And all the saved will face Jesus the Judge, at what is commonly called the Bema Judgment. Of course they will not be judge whether they're saved or not, for only the saved will come before this judgment seat.
