Great signs and fearful sights in the heavens

It just says God moved the shadow, not HOW He moved it.

2 Kings 20:11 And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the Lord: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.

Now, COMMON SENSE says that, for the shadow to move, either the clock or the sun would hafta move ! And there's no historical record of the clock's having moved, but there ARE legendary tales of the sun's having appeared to have moved retrograde. One of them is the Greek story of Phaeton, who tried to drive the chariot of the sun, but couldn't control it. Another is a legend among the Pawnee Indians of North America about the sun's starting to rise, but, seeing a trap set for him, retreated for awhile.

Now, while there was an earthquake in the area during the time of Uzziah,  Hezekiah's great-grandpa,  which left evidence still around today, there was none recorded during Hez's time when the shadow event occurred.

Common sense says that God deflected the sun's rays.

Well, then, why does a shadow move when the object casting the shadow does not move? Because the LIGHT SOURCE moved !

But in Hezekiah's case, the object casting the shadow moved-the sundial moved, along with the whole planet !

That's common sense! And, of course, the writer of "Kings" didn't know how God moved it.

Have you heard of deflection?

Now, we must apply some common sense here. Why did the shadow retreat by 10 degrees? Because the sun appeared to move retrograde. Why did the sun appear to move retrograde? Because the earth did.

The writer of "Kings" ?    The Scripture is perfectly correct,  from the Creator.

Nothing, not one jot, not one tittle nor even one iota,  in Scripture, indicates that the earth rotates, ever.

If someone is going to stick with Scripture,  and not fables and not myths,

then stick with Scripture completely.    Please.

Alright, so, does any of this matter? We argue over silly things-the mechanics of HOW God performs a miracle are of no consequence to the miracle. Did he move the sun, the earth, the shadow, deflect, who cares? God did as He said He did.

These days I don't even care about the flat earth/round earth argument-the Bible wasn't written to explain how God does what He does, nor was it written to explain the shape of the earth, or how it moves or doesn't moves-it is about the faithfulness, the mercy, the severity, the righteousness of our God and Creator, and our Saviour, Jesus Christ, and His relationship with us, His creation.  That He created is certain, that it was literally 6 days is certain, that He performed miracles is certain, and that He paid the price for our sin on the cross for forgiveness and redemption, is certain. might as well try to explain how Jesus could be the Mighty God, the everlasting Father, AND a servant in a body of flesh, worshiping that same everlasting father, and obeying Him, while still being fully God Himself. I can't explain it, but it is true.

I agree. It's hard to be concerned about these things when your unemployed and your country is being burned down. Thank God I don't have a wife and kids but I do have a disabled, elderly father I care for.

These kind of arguments are luxuries for those with too much time on their hands.
