I remember when I was in Bible College and a Pastor spoke about the need for Biblical preaching; in love. He referenced a time when an older preacher had heard him preach. When they got done, the younger preacher asked his opinion. The older preacher gently replied with a question, "Do you love people?" "Of course," the younger preacher said, "that is why I preach so hard and passionately about sin, repentance, Hell and salvation Jesus Christ." The older preacher replied, "Well it sure doesn't seem like it when sitting on the other end." The pastor was taken totally a back and was upset for a while. But he allowed God to work in his heart (having used the older preacher) concerning how he was "coming across."

I know each person must examine their heart and motives! This is right and good! I believe also we should be examining our delivery! Can people tell we love them from both what we say and how we say it?

I believe that delivery is important but not as important as being Spirit led. I remember before I was saved and a preacher and a friend of my husband came to our house to share Christ with us. At the time I was a RC and they came and shared with us about how it is not about form but about what the Word of God teaches that is essential. The Holy Spirit got ahold of my heart that day and I don't know if you have ever seen anyone under deep conviction? Well people react differently, I got madder than a hornet. I almost threw the preacher out  But praise God they patiently kept leading my husband and I back to the scripture. I pray that the Holy Spirit will speak through me and then I will say just what the person needs to hear.

Yes, I've seen that as well and I agree. Following the Holy Spirit's leading is crucial.

May I ask you this, when the preacher gave you the scriptures; did he insult you or act in any way like he didn't care for you and your soul? Did he come across like he was just being mean and it was his being right that mattered most, not your salvation or edification?

The Holy Spirit leads in what you say but the Lord said we must love as He loved, right? People feel when you don't love them and are just "saying the christian thing" but if we take the time to love them they open up' I'm the same...I can feel the Love or not. I'm saved but still respond with trust or non-trust in Christ's Love--pixiedust :2cents
