Members heartstrings
I was asked to play at a wedding, "Blessed Assurance" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". No problem, basically major chords. Then at the last minute she asks me to play a song I've never played before, written in F. I hate to play in F. Transposing it to D right now. Pray for me. The wedding is Saturday. http://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/mtd.asp?ppn=MN0100585 No Nicolaitans
Moderators OLD fashioned preacher Posted March 8, 2016 Moderators Share Posted March 8, 2016 Haha, toss a capo on the 3rd fret and play in D form. I know, easy way out. I haven't heard that song since about 1979 (too drippy and sappy for me even back then). Do you run something like that in standard D or a drop D? heartstrings
Members heartstrings
"drippy and sappy" haha When playing in D, I prefer altering the bass fingering on some of the chords a wee bit and playing in drop D. I mute the low E string on some chords like G's and change it altogether on Em. It's just an instrumental, so I shouldn't need to capo to suit any singers. But If they change their mind that won't be a problem. Edited March 8, 2016 by heartstrings
Members Standing Firm In Christ
One of the best love songs I have heard is "Battle Hymn of Love" by Kathy Matthea. Yea, I know it's a country song. About the only country song I like. Bet it would sound cool 'bluegrass style'. heartstrings
Members heartstrings
I like love songs. That name reminds me of the "War Room" movie.
Members Standing Firm In Christ
Tim O'Brian plays a mandolin in the song, but the guitar Kathy Mattea plays is the only instrument I hear. still a beautiful song. Check it out on youtube. heartstrings
Members heartstrings
I did, sounds good. I can see how it would bluegrass quite well. Standing Firm In Christ
Members Standing Firm In Christ
Do I foresee a Webb Family youtube video of the song in the near future? LoL The song blends wedding vows with snippets of Scripture, which I like. sadly, many do not hold true to their vows to "have and to hold til death do us part." Or, are they the walking dead? Members heartstrings
Sadly, the time has passed and the Webb Family is no longer a band, but it was fun while it lasted. I have performed other "secular" love songs at weddings before and although I didn't listen to all of it, this one seems to be good.. . IMO, wedding vows should include such things found in Malachi 2:16, Ephesians 5:21-33, 1 Corinthians 7:2-5, and 1 Peter Chapter 3. Those things would keep a lot more homes together and happy. Members John81
The only secular song that comes to mind off-hand I really liked was Holly Dunn's "Daddy's Hands". If I recall, she originally wrote it as a poem to her dad but her family told her to record it on an album.
Members Standing Firm In Christ
Here are the lyrics to the song,... I will pledge my heartTo the love we shareThrough the good and the bad times tooI'll forsake my restFor your happiness'Til my death I will stand by you With God as my witnessThis vow I will makeTo have and to hold youNo other to takeFor rich or for poorUnder skies grey or blue'Til my death I will stand by you There are wars and there are rumorsOf wars yet to comeTemptations we'll have to walk throughThough others may trembleI will not run'Til my death I will stand by you I will put on the armor of faithfulnessTo fight for a heart that is true'Til the battle is won, I will not rest'Til my death I will stand by you With God as my witnessThis vow I will makeTo have and to hold youNo other to takeFor rich or for poorUnder skies grey or blue'Til my death I will stand by you 'Til the battle is wonI will not run'Til my death I will stand by you Jim_Alaska
