There seems to be Catholic influence finding its way very broadly across America. So much of this, especially that which has worked its way into conservative and fundamentalist churches, stems from yoking with Catholics for political expediency regarding abortion. Too many Christians confused politics with their faith and confused what passes for conservative politics with conservative Christianity. This led to admiration and acceptance of a few "good Catholics" which led to embracing more and more Catholics and acceptance of some Catholic teachings and traditions. All of this is a very good example of a little leaven leavening the whole lump. Now even some Baptist pastors positively quote "Mother Teresa", Pope John Paul II and those "good Catholics" they hear and see on Fox News. Promotion of "the positive aspects of Lent" are worming their way into many churches, as are so many other Catholic practices.

Unfortunately most Christians are unwilling to do what could prevent and halt this infiltration: read and know the Bible. How many Christians easily find two or three hours to watch a movie or sporting event but say they just can't find the time to read the Bible? Many Christian men won't read anything unless it has to do with sports while many Christian women may spend hours weekly reading articles from women's magazines and Christian fiction books but not the Bible.
