Most sinful/Least sinful American cities

When people talk about “Sin City” in the United States, they’re most likely referring to Las Vegas. But a new study says America’s most sinful city is known by a different nickname: The Big Easy (or the City That Care Forgot, or the Crescent City).

Online real estate site Trulia recently ranked major U.S. cities based on the seven deadly sins, also called the cardinal sins. According to Trulia, New Orleans is America’s true “Sin City” while Provo, Utah, is the nation’s most saintly city.

Here’s how Trulia measured each city’s sinfulness:

  • Lust: Number of adult entertainment venues
  • Gluttony: Rates of obesity, binge drinking and smoking
  • Greed: Number of racing and gambling venues and residents’ reported charitable donations
  • Sloth: Number of residents who have not exercised in 30 days
  • Wrath: Per capita violent crime
  • Envy: Inequality in home prices
  • Vanity: Number of beauty and tanning salons and plastic surgery offices

“With nearly three times the national rate of adult entertainment establishments and twice the number gambling establishments per household, [New Orleans] scores highly in lust and greed,” Trulia explains. “Additionally, above-average rates of smoking, binge- and heavy-drinking and obesity, as well as high incidents of violent crime make the Crescent City a great place for those looking to explore gluttony and wrath.”

According to Trulia, these are the 10 most “sinful” cities in the country:

  1. New Orleans, Louisiana
  2. Atlantic City, New Jersey
  3. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  4. Tampa, Florida
  5. Toledo, Ohio
  6. Louisville, Kentucky
  7. Shreveport, Louisiana
  8. Las Vegas, Nevada
  9. San Antonio, Texas
  10. Columbus, Ohio

On the other hand, these are America’s most “saintly” cities (those that scored as the least sinful):

  1. Provo-Orem, Utah
  2. Ogden-Clearfield, Utah
  3. Fort Collins, Colorado
  4. Tuscaloosa, Alabama
  5. Raleigh, North Carolina
  6. Claremont, New Hampshire-Lebanon, Vermont
  7. Boise, Idaho
  8. Asheville, North Carolina
  9. Greeley, Colorado
  10. Cambridge, Massachusetts

Interesting, but we must remember that AFAIK Trulia is a secular organization attempting to judge sin.

Not mentioned are places like New York City, where more children are selfishly aborted in the womb than born alive each day.  What is a more heinous act than that?

Watching the debate tonight once again makes clear, that righteousness comes not from man but from Jesus Christ, none of those men running for office will acknowledge America's sin problem as they are trusting in the voter, man, rather than God to become head of this nation.  In all likelihood they wouldn't even know what I'm talking about and they were just as clueless into thinking that its ok for our precious women to leave their first estate and defile themselves and reduce the combat effectiveness of our military by serving in even more ratings throughout the armed services.

While there is no way such a look at things could be perfect, they did set a specific point to investigate and based their list upon what they found regarding those 7 sins. While this doesn't prove anything regarding overall sin, or how many saved folks may or may not be present, it does give a general overview of how the cities rate based upon those 7 biblical sins.

Abortion is a dark mark upon all of America and no doubt in terms of sheer numbers places such as New York City, Chicago, and other major cities would rank high regarding that sin. Among the most sinful cities listed in this report I've read much about the scourge of abortion in several of them. The percentage of abortions in at least some of these cities is very high even if their overall numbers don't equal or exceed some larger cities. Wherever abortion is occurring whether it's one abortion or a million, it's a grievous sin.

Sin is the problem, Christ is the answer, for ever lost person, for every sinful city.

Even the least sinful, as far as the study of those 7 sins goes, don't point to Christ or holy living. Instead, the top cities are mostly Mormon influenced and in many cases Mormons take the "thou shalt not" matters more seriously than many professing Christians.

In the case of the least sinful cities, we see how even the best rated can still be a city lost in sin. The most sinful city and the least sinful city are both in need of the Gospel.

Regarding the debates and election season it's clear many are trying to gain the "evangelical" (they lump us into this category) vote by speaking certain things to itching ears. Those running for election also know most of the "evangelical" voters have little depth in their faith and their political leanings are more shaped by the culture and media than the Bible. This is why so many candidates are talking about more war, promoting "gender equality" in the military, and saying things many modern neo-con Republicans want to hear.

The more I have checked into each candidates claims of Christianity the more I've found what they say and what they actually believe and practice are not the same. Trump claims to love the Bible but couldn't even name a favorite book of the Bible or speak to anything specific regarding the Bible. Cruz claims to be a fully committed Christian yet over a period of years it was found he only gave 1% of his income to any charity and none to a church. He claims he was building up his family and couldn't give more. Caron is touted as a strong Christian but he's actually a Seventh Day Adventist. Hillary claims to be an old time Methodist but she's clearly a secular, big government, social justice Methodist. On and on we could go for each candidate.

Our only hope is in Christ. Not the schemes of men and especially not in the schemes of men who profess to be true, conservative Christians when they rely more upon the ways of the world than upon the Lord.

Our elections are proving the biblical words of reaping what we sow.

Rating sin? Only the world would attempt to justify itself through weighted sin.

Not rating, more like weighing those sins by city. The study indicates they are all sinful cities, some more sinful with regards to those 7 sins than some others, yet all sinful. Christ is the only answer for every city, whether on these lists or not.

In a thesaurus they both have the same meaning in this context. Which sin or sins are the most egregious? Which person or persons commit more sin or sins than someone else? Individual, household, village, city, state, or nation; it doesn't matter, one sin is as bad as the next. I've had many pastors speak about those who use a paintbrush to color someone else's sin more reprehensible than their own.  The guy who put this list together needs to get alone with Jesus Christ.
