Britain's oldest person may have entered the record books again - by having a hip operation at 112 years old.

Surgeons say Gladys Hooper is probably the oldest person in the world to have had a hip replacement.

She is now recovering in hospital on the Isle of Wight.

She told the BBC's Duncan Kennedy what it felt like being possibly the oldest hip operation patient.

I see the op was in a hospital on the Isle of Wight. My brother in law was very senior in the health service in the Isle of Wight.  One evening when he returned from the mainland, the ferry was full, but there was always one space reserved for the health service.  He claimed that space, but was later seriously reprimanded for it as it was held in case an ambulance had to come urgently and he had no right to use that space.
