Members MountainChristian
Matthew 251Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.2And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.3They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:4But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.5While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.6And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.7Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.8And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.9But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.10And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.11Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.12But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.13Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.Isn't it kind of odd, one man was going to marry 10 virgin women at one time? What kind of wedding would have "do you take this man", and all ten women would be repeating the vow? Was this common in old times?

Members Covenanter
Mat. 25 immediately follows Mat. 24, when, after the warnings of the AD 70 destruction, Jesus gives general warnings regarding his second coming. We must live in readiness for that coming. 35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.People will be going about their business, their daily life, some regardless of the coming Jesus is warning about, & some living in the light of that coming. Chapter 25 reminds believers & unbelievers that whether we live in the expectation of his coming, or ignore it, that he will certainly come, for blessing or judgement. The 10 virgins are bridesmaids waiting for the groom, not brides. Watch & pray. John81
Members Popular Post TheSword
The ten virgins were guests, not brides. Matthew 25 is not in reference to the Church.Yes. More specifically, they were the bride's wedding party that attended to her needs before and during the wedding. They would be akin to the bridesmaids we know of today. In those days, the bridegroom would come to retrieve his bride. While he approached the bridesmaids would meet him afar off and escort him to the gate of the home and escort the bride to her groom. Though I disagree with Covenanter's presumption of the 70 AD destruction, this passage is indeed meant caution of Jesus imminent return and the need to be watchful and ever ready. Members Invicta
I once read a book called The Last Warning Cry subtitled Behold the Bridegroom Cometh. I think the author was John Cumming. I wish I could remember what it said as I am sure it would be relevant, but sorry, I can't.

Which tribulation are you referring to? Edited September 16, 2015 by Invicta
