Guest Guest
If you'll notice, that's a really old article...there's still no viruses for the Mac. And cost of ownership is much lower for Apple computers too! Here's an article for you:Fastest Vista Notebook of 2007
Members Bakershalfdozen
July 25, 2008 is "really old"?A big factor in Apple's success in selling 2.5 million computers last quarter is growing user disaffection with Windows. Everything from recurring Vista headaches to security fears are driving Windows users into the Mac camp. Ironically, the resulting Mac sales are coinciding with ? and causing ? a new upsurge in malware written specifically for Apple users."It's still a drop in the ocean compared to Windows vulnerabilities, [i agree] but [Mac vulnerabilities] have become more sophisticated and more criminally minded, rather than just proof of concept," Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at the security company Sophos, says.Sophos reported Wednesday that two new Mac-based Trojans that emerged in February and June ought to shake Mac users of their misconceptions that their computers (and, eventually, iPods and iPhones) are impenetrable. To put this in perspective, the first really pernicious piece of Mac malware emerged only in October 2007, Cluley says, suggesting that a worrisome trend is about to get worse. Again, only a matter of time.

Members anime4christ
1. Viruses and other malware (actually more than other types, trojans, for various reasons) for Mac and Linux will pop up as those OSes get more popular, but they will NEVER reach the magnitude the viruses for Windows have because the UNIX architecture makes it much, much harder. It's like raiding a village with straw huts vs raiding a fortress. 2. There already exist some viruses (which are entirely useless) as well as some functional trojans for Mac and Linux. The only way to get infected by these is to be trusting enough to run them (you should never run software from an untrusted source). That's like opening the door of your fortress for the enemy; no matter how thick your walls are, you won't be safe when you let the enemy in. 3. A fortress is not completely 100% safe, but it sure beats a straw hut in a village without any fence around it.
Members JerryNumbers
Yes it does, that is why we have a fence around our computers, that consist of anti-virus and anti spyware programs. As for as it goes most times a person has computer trouble, even if its a virus, is the users fault. Of course many users will not admit this, especially those who call themselves geeks. But that said, most beginners start out on Microsoft OS, so it stands to reason there will be many more problems around with Microsoft OS than Apples, besides that there is much fewer apples out there to have trouble. So there will be more reported trouble for Microsoft OS. But that said, its just a preference which system anyone uses, I just don't care for the arrogant way many apple users come off when they brag on their OS and put all others down. Especially when someone has trouble and they say, "Get an apple and end your trouble."
Members kevinmiller
Oh I would never say that it's just an Apple. You could get anything unix-based and be pretty secure. It's the basic nature of the OS. With Windows, if a program is installed, it can easily manipulate your system files. With a Mac or Linux, you have to type a password to allow something to alter anything in your system. So when something comes up that's called "killurmac.dmg" and you open it up, it's gonna ask you for a password. So, if you're dumb enough to type in the password and install a program that you aren't familiar with, you deserve to have a wrecked Mac. Otherwise, most normal people wouldn't install it. It has nothing to do with bragging, it's just the way unix machines are made. :dunno:
