Unless that's a HUGE woodpecker, I suspect that's a Least Weasle, a very tiny subspecies of the weasle. We get them out here, they look little different from an elongated chipmunk.

It is an amazing photograph, should get some sort of prize for that.

It is, but it's just called a weasel in the UK, where the pic was taken, and the woodpecker is a Green Woodpecker. They are two of the commonest woodpecker and mustelid species respectively in UK (though I think neither are found in Ireland).

It would be interesting to know whether the bird did actually take flight or whether it's just a mid-air shot of it hopping--it could just be a few feet off the ground. Amazing either way.
