I do smile & try to make eye contact - & admire their babies. One can make contact, particularly in supermarkets.

 

Their children can be prettily dressed - indicating that their mothers woul dlike to be. Underneath all that black they are people like us.

Almost pointless to take a photo when you can't even see who anyone is.

 

While Amish women aren't covered head to toe, I've noticed they are very careful to avoid eye contact when out among the "English".
