My poor grades prior to high school certainly disappointed my Mom. I didn't like school until I got to high school so I didn't put a lot of effort into it.

Ouch! The only serious injury I had during school was in my senior year when I fractured my left wrist. I don't think I ever got an "A" until I was in high school.

Did the accident end the A's?

The reason I finally got A's in high school was because it seemed more relaxed, much of the material seemed like a repeat of what I'd had before, and I would actually do some of the work during study hall.

I am afraid I was in the principals office often "for being disruptive in class as the class clown".  I had a quick wit and would poke fun at the teachers often with commical remarks or funny answers to a question.  Sometimes the teachers themselves were laughing hysterically as the marched me off the principals office again.  I was an A and B student during all of my schooling.

I didn't hit my academic stride until I finally decided to go to university later in my 20s. I graduated with honours. In one advanced math class I received a "C" but all of my other classes during those years were "A's" or "B's"; mostly "A's".

I was also much more outgoing in the university classes and enjoyed education then.

My Dad didn't go past 8th grade but God blessed him with a great deal of common sense as well as the ability to quickly figure out and do so many things which meant he always had good work on farms, then the railroad and finally as a construction laborer. Because of this, and knowing a lot of folks who went to college but have virtually no common sense, he's always thought little of education.

My sister, who tries to copy my Dad, has a similar view.

Plus, for both of them and a few others in the family, if it's not something that interests them, then it's unimportant and of no value.

It used to bother me but now I just figure it really doesn't matter what they think about it.
