JacOB is also pointed to as an example, but he never promised God his FIRST ten percent, but the 'tenth' part. Meaning, really, the last ten percent. Most preachers would say that's a wrong attitued, that we are to always give God the FIRST 10%. Yet JacOB promised the tenth part, not the first part. So if he only got 9, would God get any?

Sounds like "God wants your firstfruits...tithe off of your gross income".

What many preachers/pastors/teachers fail to realize is that the firstfruits offering was a COMPLETELY SEPARATE offering that was given IN ADDITION to the tithe...it wasn't part of the tithe.  When preachers/pastors/teachers say that God wants your "firstfruits" in reference to the first 10% of your monetary tithe before taxes are taken out (Gross Income), it is a Gross Misrepresentation of what the firstfruits offering was and what it represented.

2 Chronicles 31:5
And as soon as the commandment came abroad, the children of Israel brought in abundance the firstfruits of corn, wine, and oil, and honey, and of all the increase of the field; and the tithe of all things brought they in abundantly.

Nehemiah 10:37
And that we should bring the firstfruits of our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, unto the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground unto the Levites, that the same Levites might have the tithes in all the cities of our tillage.

Nehemiah 12:44
And at that time were some appointed over the chambers for the treasures, for the offerings, for the firstfruits, and for the tithes, to gather into them out of the fields of the cities the portions of the law for the priests and Levites: for Judah rejoiced for the priests and for the Levites that waited.

Every morning I thank the lord for all he has giving me ,no matter how large or how small it may be I know it is him that provides all I need and with joy and love in my heart I return this to others in need, sometimes I may give food sometimes money and very often all I can give is prayers. our church does not collect tithes, though I give what money the lord provides for me to give and not just on Sunday I give joyfully from my heart everyday I may clean the church or fix a plumbing prOBlem or print out flyers, change a blown light bulb or visit the elderly who are sick and take them a hot meal and pray with them. but it's not just I but everyone at our church gives this way and God provides all the church needs.

We are a small church of 85 members and our church is payed for ,we purchased a home for our pastor 3 years ago and today it's payed for, our pastor is payed a very good salary, we have a food bank for those in need and we are looking into buying a mOBile home to help homeless families.

I believe the most important thing we have is the right preaching giving us the right heart in our walk with God winning lost souls for Jesus

My pastor preaches tithing and at times I was able to give 10%. I've been on disability for almost 2 years. I get $780  month. I haven't been able to give 10% in months. I honestly don't have it. I also have a daughter. This winter my electric bills were over $200 a month for heat alone, for a small 2 bedroom apartment! By the time my bills are paid, for example, last few months, I basically go the entire month with about $5 to my name. And this has been how it's been for past few months. I feel guilty for not giving 10% and then I wonder if that's why I've been struggling? My physical disabilities have gotten worse over the 2 years so I know at this point my financial situation is not going to change.

Miss Daisy , God knows your heart and even if you are only able to pray for your churches needs God will provide so please don't feel guilty because if we could give a 100% we could never out give God. It is God that wants to take care for us if we will let Him and by having faith in Him He will provide all our needs according to His will.  I'm praying that God will give a time of rest, God bless

The regular tithe sermons of Nigeria must not be doing as good as what the pastors of BLW have hoped.  They tweeted the following today:

BLW Nations: Your pocket does not know you are a Christian until you circumcise your pocket.

It is sad when pastors have to invent foolishness in order to extort money from their congregations.

Circumcise your pockets?  RoFL

1Ti 5:
3 Honour widows that are widows indeed.

5 Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.

1Ti 5:9-10
9 Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,
10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints 'feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.

If this is you, you aren't supposed to be giving to the collection for the saints, they are supposed to be giving to you.
Rest in this.

I'm not a widow. Divorced.

You still aren't expected to give, except from your profit, or increase.
If you have neither, than give what you have to give...which is service.

The tithe within the church is a training exercise just like fasting. It keeps the flesh in check and lets the spirit have control of the subject. The love of money is the root of all evil right. Giving the tithe helps us to rely less on the money and to rely more on God. God doesn't need you or your money to accomplish His will. The ultimate goal of giving is to give your entire self to Him. If you want to know the truth of the whole giving subject it should be 100%. That's what they asked of in Acts. Not only that but Jesus said the same thing in Luke 20:21-25. You've been bought with a price. You are God's. Give yourself to Him. There was a time when people were giving but they were just doing it as a ritual and it made God sick, angry, dissapointed, etc.  Isaiah 1:11-14 I think the heart condition is what the purpose of the tithe is.

Training exercise? Sounds much like the false "training wheels" spin that Randy Alcorn pushes.

Nowhere in the New Testament do we find such principles or standards such as "training wheels" or "training exercise" when it comes giving taught to the New Covenant Believer in Christ.

The doctrine being preached in Churches that God expects His people to tithe today is a false doctrine that originated in the Roman Catholic institution. Every time a preacher teaches monetary tithes, he is teaching against what God ordained for the New Testament Body of Believers.

Where does your church get the money to do anything with?

Who is Randy Alcorn? Never heard of him.

Just asking, not spatting with you, nor am I mad. It's hard to tell on forums so I like to add for clarification.

Also your whole christian walk is a training for lack of a better word. That's what you do when you grow as a christian. That's what it means by "milk" & "meat" in these verses.  1 Corinthians. 3:2, Hebrews 5:12-13, 1 Peter 2:2. You practice things and get better at them. Study to show thyself approved. I do tithe even though it's hard at times. That's what makes us independant. We don't need to rely on the sale of chicken plates or our used junk to supply for the church from the worlds' giving. God supplies through our giving of tithes and offerings. It's just like the dress code, if you're not convicted about it then you prOBably aren't going to do it. That's between you and God.

Freewill offerings have always worked for me.  Tell the congregation the expenses (water, electric, etc.) and let them pray about what they will give.  Mix in that faith that God will speak to the hearts of the congregation, and voila! Bills are paid.

God will never convict His people to do something contrary to the written Word.
