Amy Grant is a Hypocrite

Recommended Posts

Guest Guest

Yeah, she is.

That's old news, though. Didn't that happen in the early 90's?

Amy Grant is a complete hypocrite. She says that she's for God and sings songs about him. Then she goes and gets divorced and remarried and has shown no repentence or sorrow for this sin.

I've always thought that hypocritical Christians like Grant are the worst and most dangerous people on this planet. They sucker everyone to think certain evil things are okay.

I don't think Amy Grant is really a Christian. I heard somewhere that she believes she's a Christian because her grandma was a Christian... or something like that. I don't know if that's true, but she doesn't show any fruit of being a true Christian...

Okay I'll do that. I'll just make this last point. She thinks she's a Christian and she relays that. That's what makes her so dangerous.

I don't know much about Amy Grant. I know some of the early songs she sang were edifying and a blessing to many. Then she seems to have decided to try and "reach a wider audience" by singing non-christians songs. While those songs might not have been "bad", they were nothing more than pop fluff and her attempt to break into the pop market never really took off.

I do know that she married Vince Gill, another professing Christian who was divorced after his wife left him for the last time. I don't really know the story of his marriage and divorce nor of Amy's and their divorce.

I've never come across anything where Amy has discussed her divorce so I don't know whether she's ever spoken of it rightly or not. Vince and Amy do works for charities and stuff but that about ends what I know of them.

Charity doesn't bring salvation.

She claims she is but that doesn't mean she is.

True, but not knowing her and not knowing enough about her there is no way I can rightly determine in my own mind whether I believe she is likely saved or unsaved.

All born again Christians sin. It's just that most of us don't live in the spotlight so many of our sins are not known ourside of ourselves, our homes or our little circle.

While it's a shame, there are born again Christians who do divorce just as there are some who steal, kill, rape, lie, gossip, cheat, etc.

None of us grow in the Lord at the same pace and there are some who only grow to a certain point and they stall out or begin to stagnate or some backslide.

My point being, I'm don't know enough about Amy to rightly judge as to what I think the likely condition of her soul is.

The thing is, she had no biblical reason to divorce. She said this at one point. No adultery.

That may be true, but that doesn't mean she's not a born again Christian.

I think what you said John is right on! We can't be casting out the speck in our brothers' eyes when there's a moat in ours... If we do, then whatever measure we mete by that judgment then we will receive the same measure.

Matthew 7:1
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
Matthew 7:2
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

John 7:24
Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

My dad has told of a preacher saying from the pulpit that if they knew him like he knew himself, they would want nothing to do with him. He then said for them not to walk out, but to consider that if he knew them like they each knew themself, he would want nothing to do with them. I believe this to be very true. And those who get in the spotlight are going to be seen more clearly as to what the rest of us may be able to hide. Yes I see that she was divorced, not something that can be hid. I am not a fan of hers, but feel it unfair to say she is not saved!! What would you think of a man professing to be very religious, and looked up to having an affair???? Adultry!!! What if he found out that the woman he had the affair was pregnant, so he has the husband killed so he can hide the affair and marry her. Adultry, Murder!!! His name was King David. We need to be careful how we decide who is saved and who is lost!!!!

Hey, speaking of current events, I hear Jim and Tammy Bakker are in some kind of trouble over at PTL.

Yeah, wasn't it something about an air conditoned dog house? :tum

Something like that. Did you see Jerry Falwell going down that water slide in his suit? Boy, I can't wait for him to get in there and help them.

This don't make me not wanting to listen to her songs that are Christian and Christmas music. What does her personal life have to do with it if someone is inspired by the songs? Yes we need to be example but not everyone in show biz is. I like her songs but not her.

Before I was saved, I once heard/saw one of the popular secular bands (it was either Axl Rose or Aerosmith) singing Amazing Grace unplugged on MTV. What if I used the same logic as above that their personal life has nothing to do with the music? Do you think it would it be ok to listen to or buy a recording of this type of band singing hymns if they put one out? (Ick. )

That might depend upon how the song was played. :Green Myself, neither of those bands performing hymns would appeal to me. We do however have a couple CDs here by country singers singing hymns and both have blessed my wife and I greatly. That doesn't mean we would want to listen to their secular music or that we would endorse their lifestyles or their Christianity, but the hymns are sung well with appropriate accompaniment and have been a blessing.

On a similar note, while scanning the radio in our car, I've come across Christian groups singing hymns that sounded horrible! Including Amazing Grace...which they changed some of the words to (I recall they left out the part about being a wretch). Such a beautiful and inspiration song when sang properly and when backed by appropriate music but not as this Christian group put it forth. :sad

Here's a link about Amy Grant:

Note I do not endorse everything on the website.

I read somewhere of a song of Amy's, showing that she thought baptism equated forgiveness, because of her Church of Christ background.

Thanks sean. I have never listened to Amy Grant's music before. Judging by the looks of that website...and her personal testimony, though...I think I will pass. :smile
