The point of all Microsoft operating systems whether its XP, & or 8 is to make money for Bill. This article posted by Pilgrim1938 explains that quite well, & I agree with it.

 

Microsoft makes its money releasing incremental updates to its flawed operating system that it alternately sabotages and then repairs. If you're annoyed by Windows 8, don't worry. Windows 9 will "fix" the problem. It's part of the idiotic business plan by a company that exploited a niche in IBM to become a much lamer IBM.

Have you not ever wondered how the same model car can have 60 horsepower more at the end of its model life than the first released version, even though the only changes are exhaust and manifold differences?
Why didn't they put that exhaust on at first?
Because then they would get people upgrading until the next model and that is typically 5 - 8 years away.
Microsoft is exactly the same, no different.
(Not saying it is right, just that microsoft are not orphans.)
