In my town, don't know of any gas stations or grocery stores that DO NOT sell booze, tobacco or lottery tickets.  And the majority also cash in on the sin of pornography too.

It's the same here,; swath. Our son worked at Speedway back before they started selling cold beer. (Imagine the logic behind selling cold beer to drivers.....). He got a paper from the company telling them what they wanted to do and had the workers vote on it. My son voted no, but the majority voted yes. Happily, he was out of there before they started selling it.

All I can say is that all of you heretics who drink Root Beer need to get your lives right...that stuff is NASTY!!!

 

I can't say this for sure, but I think the mark of the beast might be "A&W".  

 

I liked A&W root beer when we went to the A&W drive inn getting  a root beer in that big frosty mug. Yet never cared for it in the bottle.

There's big money in booze and cigarettes so it seems everyone tries to get a license to sell these things. It also seems about every gas station wants in on the lottery too.

 

They'll do about anything for money.

 

Oddly, most of the gas stations around here no longer sell porn. I say oddly because they all used to. I don't think they stopped selling the stuff because of any moral convictions, but rather because porn is now so easily available to everyone on the internet and TV (event to children  ) that it's no longer profitable. Still, it's nice not to have to see those magazines staring me in the face when I go to pay for the gas.

Allowing gas stations to sell cold beer seems inconsistent with efforts to prevent drunk driving. If they want to buy their beer cold that typically means they are wanting to drink it soon; or to resell it to someone (underage) who does.

 

In these little towns like where I live, everyone knows who drinks and who doesn't and everyone knows who drinks all the time and who is pretty much always legally drunk when driving around town. Yet the cops never stop these people.

It is like that where I live, swath.  Brother Jerry mentioned he lives in a "dry town."  I  WISH i lived in a "dry town."  We wouldn't have so many drunks.  Although, I do know of some dry towns in the State of OH and they are worse than the towns that aren't dry.  All stores sell booze, cigarettes, lottery tickets, pronography, and every other sin under the sun.  Christians have our work cut out for us here, that's for sure! 

Years ago, I suggested to my pastor that we try and find an island to go to with none of this sin.  He jokingly said, he would turn into Jim Jones and we'd all be drinking his koolaid.   

I am so blessed to be an IFB!  And, who said fundamentalists don't have any fun?  Our church is filled with good clean humor.  Also, praise the Lord!  Sunday, another soul came to the Lord Jesus Christ.  He is deciding whether to go to our church or Cleveland Baptist Church.  He told us he loves WBC better, though.  I told him I prefer a small church over a bigger church.  Pastor Folger's church, Cleveland Baptist is bigger than any Roman Catholic church I have ever been in my entire life.     Joe and I wouldn't want to be flies on the wall.  We love to visit, though.  We do this as a church group.  Our church was founded out of Cleveland Bapist Church.  They have planted so many good IFB churches.  Praise the Lord for that!

BTW, I see the other thread got closed.  I saw that your wife is Hispanic.  We do have coarse hair that takes a lot of maintenance.  I have been told that I have beautiful hair by so many people.  The work to care for it, is worth it, then:)

I got my Caramel Frappe from McDonald's yesterday.  It didn't taste so good to me.  I am sick of them.  I'm glad my hankering for them didn't last too long.  My drink of preference is water, a bit of unsugared iced tea, which I brew and lemon.  It is so refereshing and I am able to control my weight better this way.  Soda puts on the pounds.  Sure it is good, but as HC said it is "habit forming."

Now in telling this I'm not telling others what to do, I'm telling what I did, what was right for Linda & I, & what we did.

 

When in the Air Force I was a jet engine mechanic. Before getting out I sent out some resumes. I got some good offers but ended up turning them down knowing that if I moved back home we would never have as much money.

 

What we considered. If we had children we did not want to raise a child around a big city where so much went on, & that was the place I would have gone to do that type of work. We thought about this for about 6 months, ended up coming home where we would be in a shall community, surrounded by dry countries when discharged.

 

And even at that I still even got two better offers from two of the companies that were quite hard to resist about 6 moths after having moved here after my discharge..

 

Perhaps if I had gone that route I would have made many more dollars, have a very large retirement, instead of a very small bank account, with just enough to have food, shelter, & such.I place all my eggs in one basket so to speak, & at 66 going on 67 we still think that was a very wise decision even though most have much more materially than we do.

 

I might add a very good friend whom I worked in the early 70's with went off to Houston, he tried his best to get Linda & I to move down there telling us all the money we could make. He & his wife lives in a very nice fine home now that's been redone many times with a huge bank account along with a big check coming in each month & drives what ever new car or truck that catches their fancy. That was not for us neither, & no regrets, my basked I placed my eggs in are still safe & secure even though we have much less money than they.

Aaaw:)  Jerry, I love that part of your testimony.  I have tears in my eyes just reading it.  I love reading your stories.  As I have always said, you remind me of my first pastor.  He was like a dad to me, while he was my pastor.  I apologize for going off on you the other day.  Contrary to what you think, I am not a liberated woman.  Even in my abusive first marrige, I was submissive to my husband.  However, he took advantage of that.  Joe, being the godly husband that he is, is not like that... although I always follow his leadership, as he is the spiritual head of my household.  He leans on the Lord Jesus Christ, and I lean on him.  That's the way God intended it to be.

It's my treat to myself on payday.  I ask for it with really light ice because they already keep it cold.  And since it's 27° outside right now, I don't need much ice.    I can't drink hot coffee anymore (well, not very often, anyway), and I kind of needed the caffeine jolt this morning.  But I'm cooooold....hehehe

 

I do like McDonald's iced mochas.  I don't care for caramel in my coffee, so I'm not crazy about any of the caramel drinks.  But I do have to restrain myself from getting iced mochas...I like them, but they are not healthy for us (duh!   ), and they are too expensive to get very often (BKs are actually cheaper). 

 

My son loves his coffee.  We haven't used our coffee maker in a long time, so we have no filters.  When they come back up from his inlaws this weekend, they will be bringing filters so he can make coffee before he heads out on the road.  So much cheaper than buying it!

 

Edited to add....I thought I was posting in the coffee thread.  LOL....there's a lot of cross-subjecting going on!     I told you I needed caffeine this morning.

I have acid reflux.  Hot coffee and hot tea with caffeine really tear me up.  As do any dark sodas.  I was quite hooked on Diet Cherry Coke for a while, and my reflux got much worse - to the point where I had to give up hot caffeine drinks and all dark soda.  I can handle ice tea and ice mocha, but on a limited basis.  While my reflux is bad (there are times I'm up all night, erm, being sick....), it is controllable usually if I stay on apple cider vinegar daily and limit my caffeine intake.  So, God has used that to keep me from getting addicted to any caffeinated beverages!     No, not even instant coffee, candle...my hubby doesn't drink it accept very rarely and when he does, he usually gets it free from one of his store customers.

I also have really bad acid reflux, about  2 months ago my doctor put me on omeprazole prescription and it has helped about 80% of my former discomfort! The remaining 20% is usually only a problem if I eat something too close to bedtime or acidic early in evening. Might want to try it if not already. I sleep with 3 pillows to elevate my upper chest and head. I slide down as night wears on and the reflux wakes me up with coughing spells also.

I also have acid reflux along with a hiatal hernia.  I'm also on omeprazole (which is generic Priolsec).  We quit drinking carbonated beverages about 2 years ago.  We now drink mainly water, flavored with those powdered drink mixes.  Our big hang up is drinking alot of coffee.  I keep my coffee consumption down to about 3 cups a day.  I don't drink my coffee black...I used Coffeemate liquid and splenda.

   Try some apple cider vinegar...it closes the sphincter so acid can't wash up into the esophagus.  I usually use about two T per about 4-5 T of water.   I've used different things (like prilosec, nexium, etc), and honestly can say that the vinegar far exceeds them - for me, anyway. Eating apples/applesauce can help keep it calm, too. (I can't even drink the powder mixes...they irritate my reflux, too. Weird, eh?)
