Was Satan Behind The Crucifixion?

As we all know Roman solders crucified Christ, but it was the Jewish rulers that were behind turning Jesus over to the Romans.  And it was Satan, that was working behind scenes turning the Jewish people against Jesus.

But what was it exactly that caused the Jews to so hate our Lord so much?

Yes, He was preaching against their sins and they didn’t like it, but they were very religious people and they “preached” to each other, against “sin” every day.
What was it that Jesus preached that got them so upset?.....
Matthew 15:1-9
V.1 ¶ Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,
V.2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.
V.3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
V.4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
V.5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to [his] father or [his] mother, [it is] a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
V.6 And honour not his father or his mother, [he shall be free]. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.
V.7 [Ye] hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
V.8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with [their] lips; but their heart is far from me.
V.9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men.

------------------------
Jesus was the sweetest most loving person to ever walk the Earth, but because He preached against the man-made doctrines of the Jews, they hated Him calling Him every name in the book, including a winebibber.....
Luke 7:34
“The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!”

--------------------------------------------------
The problem the LORD had with the Jews, was the fact that they started making up their own list of “sins”, that they judged everyone else by. This is a much more serious problem than people think.

Ukemike is right, they accused Jesus of blaspheme which earned Him a death sentence.

1Ki 21:10  And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.

False witnesses convince others of false doctrines.

All of these are correct. The religious leaders hated Jesus because He publically pointed out their outward traditions, which looked so good to all who looked at them, were not only of no worthy, they were at times directly going against the Word of God. Christ called the religious leaders to look at their hearts, which were corrupt, filled with pride and concerned about the things of the world. Jesus pointed out that even though they sought to keep the letter of the law in many areas, they were not in line with the spirit of the law. For this they hated Him and continually looked for ways trap Him in His words, and eventually to kill Him.

When they heard inference He was the Christ they were even more incensed, especially since Jesus and His ministry didn't fit their interpretation of the Scriptures regarding the awaited Messiah. They already hated Him and now, if they could find a way to charge Him with blasphemy they would have their grounds to have Him put to death.

We see the same sort of thing today when we try to talk with a Christian (whether a pastor or laity) regarding an area they are astray in or outright teaching falsehoods, or they are believing false doctrine, man made traditions, or living to look good in public but are clearly not right in their heart.

Most of us have heard wayward Christians say things like, "I'm just as saved as you...or, I'm as much a Christian as you...". Even some who may yet be lost but who have been given a false sense of salvation, are often quick to take offense when presented with the biblical Gospel. Just as the religious leaders of Jesus day could twist their interpretation of Scripture to seem to back their traditions and false doctrines, so today we see the same thing. Those who do this most often respond in anger and hatred towards those who shine the light of truth upon them.

Jesus threatened the stature and standing of the religious leaders of His day. Their fear of losing their place of prominence is recorded in Scripture. Jesus had to go. Being able to accuse Him of the crime of blasphemy, even if they had to use lies to achieve this, was for the "greater good" in their sinful hearts. These men were so intent upon protecting their own position, they willingly conducted an unjust arrest, mock trial (in direct contradiction to their own rules; and leaving out those members of their group who might have opposed this), and an appeal to the Romans to carry out their dirty work for them.

Satan, our true enemy, was behind all this, but the religious leaders had the Scriptures, read and studied them all their lives, so if their hearts were truly open to the Lord they wouldn't have been Satan's pawns. Even the Roman leaders knew the Jewish leaders were in the wrong, knew Jesus was innocent, yet for the sake of the approval of men they violated their own law and conscious in agreeing to have Jesus put to death.

Seems they didn't heed these words:

The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall. - Proverbs 10:8

Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die. - Proverbs 15:10
