Saddams Iraq served as a counter-balance to Iran and the US took advantage of that often. Not that it ever got much press, but Saddam was even willing to cooperate to an extent with the US behind the scenes and did so for years. This partly why Saddam felt especially betrayed with Bush the First gave him the green light to invade Kuwait (a very tiny area that Iraq has long claimed and only exists because of the whim of the British) and then turned the incident into a vehicle to get several countries to agree to invade Iraq.

The actual history of Saddams rise to power and his dealings with America are fascinating. Even prior to the latest Iraq war, Saddam sent warnings to America about a potential terrorist attack, through back channels.

Behind the scenes Saddam was trying hard to get along with America but publically he had to maintain a strong image in order to keep his rivals from seeing weakness and attempting to depose him and to keep Iran and others fearful of what he was capable of.

Not saying Saddam was a great guy, he clearly wasn't, but he wasn't what most have been led to believe either.

John,
While were talking along those lines, Osama Bin Laden was in bed with the CIA for years also, the US was backdoor supplying him with weapons through the Israelis for years, I think the movie "Charlie's War" was a very accurate portrayal of the Arms dealings in the middle-east, during the 70's and 80's. The only reason the Russians weren't able to roll right across Turkey, was because we supplied the surface to air missiles to Bin Laden and his minions.

America has dealt behind the scenes with many shady characters (and openly with some) only to turn on them later (or be turned on by them). Panama's Noriega, who sold information to the CIA and other government agencies found his country invaded and himself arrested, tried and locked away.

We could also consider the Shah of Iran as well as various dictators around the world over the past several decades that America has supported and worked with despite the fact they were abusing their own people and/or others and oftentimes even held very anti-American beliefs.

I wish it wasn't so, but the American government is just as fallen, wicked and used of Satan as are the other governments of the world.

Just look at the trail of horrible, Constitution stomping presidents this country has had over the past hundred years (or, one can go back further if they like). Consider how Christian church services were once held in the capital while today true Christianity is virtually unacceptable there.

Guys, we are talking about the "here and now." We aren't talking about what has gone on in years prior with the CIA. The Liberal news would have us believe that the dealings with Iraq have been a failure. NOT true!! As far as Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden...Please, spare me the sympathy. They have murdered their own innocent people! Saddam's sons (especially the oldest) was a rapist and a murderer! The man raped and molested a 12 year old Muslim girl without even batting an eye. Not to mention the other torturous things that these men have done. Oh...and, Saddam was supposed to invade Kuwait and dispose of the oil? Yeah, I am sure that the CIA told him to do that. NOT!! Have you guys talked with any US Muslims recently? You would be quite surprised that they don't share your sympathy for Saddam, Bin Laden, or the Shah of Iran! They are happy to be US citizens, and living where they don't have to worry about "dictators" who control their every move.

My point is...that our US soldiers NEED our support and prayers. Period! I don't see the 2 of you fighting over in the Middle East (well...you couldn't due to your age.) However, "Negativity breeds negativity." We have to deal with the Liberals ALL the time---they seem to "rocket out of Pluto" on OB. The Democrats are ALL over the place! Can we stop "dissecting" what has happened in the past in this nation? This does NO good for our country, nor for the men and women fighting to protect our freedoms in this nation---stationed the Middle East and ALL across the world. Again, this talk reminds me of Vietnam---on a MUCH larger scale. :roll BTW, how was your Thanksgiving?

God's plan for this nation and world is happening---just as He said it would. :amen:

Ephesians 2:10...For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. "Unity in Christ" KJV 1611 AV.

I wasn't implying that I had any sympathy for these two bit dictators around the world, my point was, that the U.S. has done this time and time and again. Every time we get involved in the middle east, a decade or two later these same guys that we propped up then become our enemies, and we end up sacrificing American lives to straighten out a mess we made. I served this country with honor, looking back on that experience, I can tell you that there were very few things that I was ordered to do that I would be proud to tell someone about today. I fully support our troops and regularly pray for them, our ministry sends care packages a couple times a year, that's all we can afford to do. My wife has several family members in both Iraq and Afghanistan right now. If you think any of our politicians are going to handle the current situation any differently, then you should go back and look up Obama's visit to the Middle east during the campaign and see who he met with. He's not even President and he already wants to make a deal with the scumbags.

I am glad that you made that clear. :thumb I was confused by your previous post---CP. I know you are a "True American!" Yes...the US has done this for ages. I don't see the point in debating it---b/c it isn't going to change now.

Agreed! :goodpost:

Facing the truth isn't giving support to wicked rulers nor is it denying prayers or support for our troops.

I served in the Air Force and much of my family has been or still is in the military. Most of us have been ordered to do (or not do) things that are not right. I have a cousin who worked covert ops and if he told me more than he has he would literally have to kill me. He has since retired from the military and now works for a subset governmental agency doing the same sort of covert work but for a lot more money, and it's a very dirty business and often just as wicked as what our enemies are up to.

As much as I hate the fact, America is not a righteous nation. Consider the tens of thousands killed, murdered and raped by the American government during the "civil war" and "reconstruction". This, against what they said were their own citizens. Black and white women alike were raped, often gang raped, by American soldiers with officers turning a blind eye. Consider the unnecessary, vengeful and hateful fire bombing of Dresden in World War Two that was perpetrated by America. Untold tens of thousands of refugees, mostly women, children and the elderly, were literally burned alive or suffocated by that wicked act. Not to forget that America sided with the wicked Joseph Stalin, built him up and then allowed him to take eastern Europe as his own giving us the Cold War and leading to millions of more deaths and the suffering of generations of Eastern Europeans. Stalin is responsible for about 10 times more murders than Hitler and yet America allied with this murderer just as she has allied with many other wicked leaders who not only abused their own people but others as well.

I love my country and am glad to be here and were we invaded today I'd be volunteering for the "home guard". That doesn't change the fact that America is a wicked nation ruled by wicked people. This should come as no surprise considering Scripture is clear that all nations are wicked and we can see they are run by ungodly men.

There is none righteous, no not one. When wicked men rule they serve their father the devil and wickedness abounds.

Oh, but I have faced the truth; however, our Liberals on OB will take what you say...and "run with it." This kind of information is ALL they need to get them going.

I served in the Air Force and much of my family has been or still is in the military.

Thank you for your service to this nation, John . :amen: Also, our families serving in the military needs our support! I don't think you should be encouraging the Liberals with your posts about the USA. They are "feeding on this." Isn't MSM, and CNN enough for them? They don't need to read things (about how our nation's leaders did that---or didn't do that) to strengthen their agenda. :thumb

With the ways the Democrats have taken this nation---you will be "volunteering for the home guard."

:amen: Only---Jesus Christ!

When wicked men rule they serve their father the devil and wickedness abounds.

Not all of our past presidents have acted as "wicked men." When GWB and his administration leave office---I will feel VERY helpless with Obama as our leader. Thank goodness my faith and hope is in the one who counts---Christ Jesus!

2 Corinthians 5:7-8...7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. "Eternal Home in Heaven" KJV 1611 AV.

I never said all our past leaders were wicked men but the vast majority were.

GWB really did damage while he was in office. Had Clinton done, or even attempted to do many of the things GWB did the so-called conservatives and religious right would have been screaming like crazy.

Worse of all, from a biblical perspective, were his claims to be a Christian while denying the Christ of Christianity! Not once, but several times in not only national but international settings, Bush proclaimed that Islam and Christianity are equal religions and that Christians and Muslims pray to the same God. Bush has repeatedly declared that virtually all religions lead to heaven. These statements are 100% against what the Bible teaches, what true Christians believe, and what one must believe to be a Christian.

Sad to say, but much of the potential damage Obama could do during his time in office is thanks to the precedents and machinery Bush has set.

With regards to the liberals, they will attack no matter what and the media spreads lies, distorts the truth and hides the truth rather than putting forth the actual truth, so folks speaking the truth and what the media puts forth are two very different things.

Just as we shouldn't refrain from speaking biblical truth just because liberal "Christians" and other liberals will use that in their attacks, the same is true for truth in general.

It seems that all of the posts you have made say this, John. Unless, I am NOT reading them correctly.

The only thing that I disagreed with GWB on is when he said we all worshiped the same God. Nope. Allah is NOT God. As far as Clinton? You know this...how?

I disagree. Obama has his own agenda. And, it won't be pretty!

It gives the Liberals more ammunition. They are getting "fed" all over the place. Conservatives are doing much damage to this cause.

Biblical truth is based on facts---God!! The "truth" with regards to this nation is based on man. Even saved man (articles) can get his information wrong.

If I gave the impression I thought every American leader throughout history was wicked then I'm sorry as that was not my intent. However, the vast majority clearly were when one looks at their stance with regards to Christianity and the Constitution.

The reason I know those folks would have railed against Clinton doing some of what Bush did is because for 8 years Clinton was in office they kept prediciting he might do some of those things and they decried how unconstitutional it was and how it created more socialism, etc.

Yes, Obama has his own agenda but Bush has established precedents and put machinery in place that will make it that much easier for Obama to implement his wicked agenda than if those things were not done.

Speaking the truth doesn't give liberals more ammunition. Just as Thomas Jefferson said, there is not a truth I'm afraid of nor would wish to be kept hidden. Scripture tells us truth should be put forth.

True enough, those on both sides will put forth lies but there are other sources out there and if one reads through enough of the information the truth becomes apparent. One thing about the truth is that it always comes to the surface.

Well...let's just get past this, John. :smile I know your intentions are good. Yes...people shouldn't be "blind" to what is going on this nation or this world.

One thing about the truth is that it always comes to the surface.

Yes! A lie (s) will ALWAYS come to the surface. :amen:

With this situation in India...I am "trying" to stay positive. I know the terrorist groups around the world want us dead and gone. I know that heaven is my home, but---I know in my heart that I still have work to do on earth. Again...I do NOT feel comfortable with Obama in office. I really don't care about the economy. I have been without before (many times)...and, I know that God will see me and my family through this. My prayer for this nation is...that we are truly "humbled" with what is happening in this world. I know the scripture below is for the Jews, but I think it applies to all of us in this nation.

2 Chronicles 7:14...If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven , and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. KJV 1611 AV.

Yes, I agree, I'm not comfortable with Obama in office either, but the Lord allowed it for His own reasons so that's just what we must face right now. Given the wickedness of America these days it's little wonder we would be given a very wicked-minded leader.

Scripture says that as we see the times coming to an end we should be even more about looking for the Lord and doing His work while there is yet light to do so.

We have been praying and looking for more ways to advance the Kingdom of God and be about His work. I do pray that Christians will see the troubling times we are in and rather than dispair, they will give themselves to pursuing holiness, submit to Christ as their Lord, and get busy about our Fathers business for His glory and honour while we are yet able.

I know! God knows what He is doing...and, sadly to say---the time has come for the USA. Rather, it is past due.

Scripture says that as we see the times coming to an end we should be even more about looking for the Lord and doing His work while there is yet light to do so.

:goodpost::amen: Yep. Now is NOT the time to be complacent! I fear that some Christians out there think we are on "easy street" when we are soooo far from that!

Romans 6:20-23...20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. 21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. KJV 1611 AV.

I agree Molly. Far too many professing Christians pursue the easy life and do all they can to avoid anything that would disrupt their easy life. This is why they wouldn't be found witnessing, speaking up for Christ, taking stands against wickedness, etc. They want their comfy Sunday time in church and then to relax and be a quiet Christian during the week.

There are also some who take the "bunker" mindset to heart. They see the evil but rather than confronting it with the Gospel, they hide in their churches and homes waiting for the Lord to rescue them. The won't be seen out and about doing the Lord's work either.
