What a novel idea!!! *sarcasm*

A government task force has come up with its solution for lengthy airline delays that often keep passengers stranded on the tarmac for hours:

It decided to let the airlines solve the problem for themselves.

The tarmac task force, as it is informally known, adopted a report on Wednesday that includes guidelines for crafting contingency plans for dealing with lengthy tarmac delays.

But, after meeting for nearly a year, it did not recommend any new laws or regulations. It decided that the airlines and airports could decide for themselves whether to follow or ignore its guidelines.

They spent a year on this so we know that cost taxpayers millions of dollars just for them to say what should have been said to begin with.

In other words, they could find no percentage in it for the government to try and regulate this so they just make some guidelines so it looks like they did something and say the airlines can do what they want.

This should have been easy to see. I mean, if the government made new laws for this that would mean they would have to either give someone the job of overseeing that these new laws were enforced or create yet another agency to handle that. What would they do, have a special security force in place with stopwatches timing each plane in the airport? If a time violation occured would they impose a hefty fine on an already troubled airline industry? Would they force the airline, at gunpoint if necessary, to unload all passengers, only to have them have to be reloaded and the countdown begin again? :roll
