The Holy Trinity

The following is by the late Loraine Boettner:

Much of the opposition to the doctrine of the Trinity has arisen because of a misunderstanding of what it really is. We do not assert that one God is three Gods, nor that one person is three persons, nor that three Gods are one God. God is not three in the same sense in which He is one.

To assert that He is would, indeed, make the doctrine what the Unitarians are ever fond of declaring it to be, mathematical absurdity. We assert rather that within the one Divine “substance” or “essence” there are three mutually related yet distinct centers of knowledge, consciousness, love and will.

“Substance” or “essence” is that which the different members of the Godhead have in common, that in which the attributes and powers of Deity inhere; “person” is that in which they differ. Yet while there are three centers of knowledge, consciousness, love and will, each of the Persons possesses in toto the one indivisible, incorporeal substance of Deity in which the attributes and powers inhere, and therefore possesses the same infinite knowledge, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness and truth.

They work together or co-operate with such perfect harmony and unity that we are justified in saying that the Triune God works with one mind and one will. What the one knows, the others know; what the one desires, the others desire; and what the one wills, the others will.

God as a Trinity

by Matt Slick

  1. God
    1. God is the only Supreme Being in all existence, places, and time. He is Holy (), Eternal (), Omnipotent (,), Omnipresent (), Omniscient (), etc.

Isaiah 43:10, Isaiah 44:6, Isaiah 44:8,Isaiah 45:5

The Trinity is one God who exists simultaneously in three persons. Each is coequal, copowerful, and coeternal with the other. Each person--Father, Son and Holy Spirit--is not the other. Without either there is no God; all comprise the one God. Analogy of the Trinity: With time, for example, the past is distinct from the present, which is distinct from the future. Each is simultaneous. Yet, they are not three 'times,' but one. That is, they all share the same nature: time Trinitarian Verses

The Word Trinity is not in the Bible.
  1. Just because the word "trinity" is not in the Bible doesn't mean that the concept is not taught. The word "monotheism" is not in the Bible, yet the Bible teaches it (; ,). Therefore, your criticism is invalid.
Isaiah 43:1044:68

What law of logic is it that the doctrine of the Trinity violates? If you cannot tell me, then your statement is meaningless. Saying it is illogical does not mean it is.

Saying it is pagan means nothing. The question is whether or not it is biblical. Are there verses that show that the F., S., & H.S. are each God, each indwell, each have a will, each loves, etc.? Yes there are. The F., S., & H.S. are each called God (F., ), (S., ,; ), (H.S., ). Each has a will (F., ), (S., ), H.S., (). Each is all knowing (F., ), (S., ; ), (H.S., ), etc. Phil. 1:2John 1:114Col. 2:9Acts 5:3-4Luke 22:42Luke 22:421 Cor. 12:111 John 3:20John 16:3021:171 Cor. 2:10-11Regarding the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each has a will (F., ), (S., ), H.S., (). Each speaks (F., ), (S., ., (HS., ; ).Luke 22:42Luke 22:421 Cor. 12:11Matt. 3:17Luke 5:20Acts 8:2913:2

There are no trinities in pagan theology. There are triads (three gods), but no trinities (one God in three persons). Therefore, your statement is inaccurate.

That is correct. But the Trinity is a doctrine arrived at systematically (by looking at the whole of scripture), not by looking at a single verse. Therefore, your complaint is misdirected and shows you don't understand the Trinity.

The Trinity doctrine is arrived at systematically (by looking at the whole of scripture), not by looking at a single verse. Therefore, you won't see a single verse that says it. Also, this demonstrates that you don't understand the Trinity, otherwise you would not have asked that question.

[*]The Trinity is illogical [*]The Trinity is pagan [*]The Trinity came from pagan trinities. [*]The Bible does not say that God is three who's and one what [*]Show me one verse in the Bible that says that God is three persons. Edited by 2Tim215

3) Feel free to quote the Bible, if you do we ask that you use the KJV. This is done to avoid confusion.
The Administrators and Moderators of this site believe that the KJV is Gods preserved Word for the English speaking people, and we ask that you respect that and use the KJV when quoting scripture.

My quote was a "direct quote" from an outside source and if I changed it in any way it would be plagiarism. Quoted scriptures have been deleted to satisfy those who can not contribute yet can always find reason to take offense, give offense or criticize unduly.

"In this Divine and Infinite Being there are three subsistences, the Father, the Word (or Son), and Holy Spirit, of one substance, power, and eternity, each having the whole divine essence, yet the essence undivided; the Father is of none neither begotten, nor proceeding; the Son is eternally begotten of the Father; the Holy Spirit proceeding from the Father and the Son, all infinite, without beginning, therefore but one God, who is not to be divided in nature and being, but distinguished by several peculiar relative properties and personal relations; which doctrine of the Trinity is the foundation of all our communion with God, and our comfortable dependence on him." (The Philadelphia Confession of Faith, 1742)

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen. The second epistle to the Corinthians was written from Philippi, a city of Macedonia, by Titus and Lucas.

1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

Thank you for clarifying that John. But the rules did not say that Scripture other than KJV was allowed.

That's true, and I wasn't trying to say anything against your post. It seems to be more of an unwritten thing that sometimes articles or such will have MVs quoted in them, which we can all work around, but if we are quoting Scripture ourselves, even if posting with regards to an article using MVs, we should be using the KJB at all times.
