I'm sure someone's done this sometime in the past, but let's do it again!

What is your favorite hymn? Feel free to post the lyrics.

I'm going to do two, since I'm the OP. :frog:

Saved by the Blood

Saved by the blood of the Crucified One!
Now ransomed from sin and a new work begun,
Sing praise to the Father and praise to the Son,
Saved by the blood of the Crucified One!

Refrain
Glory, I’m saved! Glory, I’m saved!
My sins are all pardoned, my guilt is all gone!
Glory, I’m saved! Glory, I’m saved!
I am saved by the blood of the Crucified One!

Saved by the blood of the Crucified One!
The angels rejoicing because it is done;
A child of the Father, joint heir with the Son,
Saved by the blood of the Crucified One!

Refrain

Saved by the blood of the Crucified One!
The Father He spake, and His will it was done;
Great price of my pardon, His own precious Son;
Saved by the blood of the Crucified One!

Refrain

Saved by the blood of the Crucified One!
All hail to the Father, all hail to the Son,
All hail to the Spirit, the great Three in One!
Saved by the blood of the Crucified One!

Refrain

You should hear our church sing this one! Especially when we drop the instruments on the last chorus... :amen:

The Old-Fashioned Meeting

Verse 1
O how well I remember in the old-fashioned days,
When some old fashioned people had some old-fashioned ways;
In the old-fashioned meetings, as they tarried there
In the old-fashioned manner, how God answered their prayer.

Refrain
Twas an old-fashioned meeting in an old-fashioned place,
Where some old-fashioned people had some old-fashioned grace;
As an old-fashioned sinner I began to pray,
And God heard me and saved me in the old-fashioned way.

Verse 2
There was singing, such singing of those old-fashioned airs!
There was power, such power in those old-fashioned prayers,
An old-fashioned conviction made the sinner pray,
And the Lord heard and saved him in the old-fashioned way.

Verse 3
O they say it is better, things have changed, don't you know?
And the people in general seem to think it is so.
And they call me old-fashioned when I dare to say
That I liked it far better in the old-fashioned way.

Verse 4
If the Lord never changes, as the fashions of men,
If He's always the same, why, He is old-fashioned then!
As an old-fashioned sinner saved thru old-time grace,
I am sure He will take me to an old-fashioned place.

Hurrah for the old-fashioned faith!

Trust and Obey
John H. Sammis, 1846-1919
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there's no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2. Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.
(Refrain)

3. But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.
(Refrain)

4. Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we'll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.
(Refrain)

This world is not my home, I'm just passing through.
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue.
The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
If Heaven's not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

They're all expecting me and that's one thing I know.
My Savior pardoned me and now I onward go.
I know He'll take me through, though I am weak and poor.
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
If Heaven's not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

Just up in Glory Land we'll live eternally.
The Saints on every hand are shouting victory.
Their song of sweetest praise drifts back from Heaven's shore
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
If Heaven's not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

'I Can't Feel At Home In This World Anymore'

This one fits me better with each passing day. To bad some many of our brethren are getting so comfortable in this world. Some seem to be in love with the world hoping Jesus' puts off His coming long enough to fill up their bank accounts while enjoying the fruits of this world.

I was reminded of this hymn at my g'daughter's baptism yesterday,
With harps and with vials, there stand a great throng
In the presence of Jesus, and sing this new song:
Refrain
Unto Him Who hath loved us and washed us from sin,
Unto Him be the glory forever, Amen.

All these once were sinners, defiled in His sight,
Now arrayed in pure garments in praise they unite:
Refrain

He maketh the rebel a priest and a king,
He hath bought us and taught us this new song to sing:
Refrain

How helpless and hopeless we sinners had been,
If He never had loved us till cleansed from our sin:
Refrain

Aloud in His praises our voices shall ring,
So that others believing, this new song shall sing:

Refrain

& I read Rev. 1:5 ... Jesus Christ, [who is] the faithful witness, [and] the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, 6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him [be] glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Is Thy Heart Right with God
(words & music: Elisha A. Hoffman 1899)

Have thy affections been nailed to the cross?
Is thy heart right with God?
Dost thou count all things for Jesus but loss?
Is thy heart right with God?

Refrain:
Is thy heart right with God,
Washed in the crimson flood,
Cleansed and made holy, humble and lowly,
Right in the sight of God?

Hast thou dominion o’er self and o’er sin?
Is thy heart right with God?
Over all evil without and within?
Is thy heart right with God?

Refrain

Is there no more condemnation for sin?
Is thy heart right with God?
Does Jesus rule in the temple within?
Is thy heart right with God?

Refrain

Are all thy pow’rs under Jesus’ control?
Is thy heart right with God?
Does He each moment abide in thy soul?
Is thy heart right with God?

I've not heard that one before, OLDfashioned, but it sounds like a really neat one! Do you know where I could find the music? I'd love to bring it out for our revival meetings this week.

If it's not in your hymnal and if you don't have access to a hymnal with it (such as the "American Church Hymnal"), check on Cyber Hymnal.

If We Never Meet Again
Albert E. Brumley

Soon we'll come to the end of life's joinery,
And perhaps we'll never meet anymore,
Till we gather in heaven's bright city,
Far away on that beautiful shore.
Never meet this side of heaven,
Struggle thru, this world and it strife,
Meeting place somewhere in heaven,
By the shinning river of life,
Roses bloom ever and ever,
Separations come never more,
Never meet this side of haven
Meting you on that beautiful shore

O so often we're parted with sorrow,
Benedictions often quicken our pain,
But we never shall sorrow in heaven,
God be with you till we meet again.
Never meet this side of heaven,
Struggle thru, this world and it strife,
Meeting place somewhere in heaven,
By the shinning river of life,
Roses bloom ever and ever,
Separations come never more,
Never meet this side of haven
Meting you on that beautiful shore

O they say we shall meet by the river,
Where no storm clouds ever darken the sky.
And they say we'll be happy in heaven,
In the wonderful sweet by and by.
Never meet this side of heaven,
Struggle thru, this world and it strife,
Meeting place somewhere in heaven,
By the shinning river of life,
Roses bloom ever and ever,
Separations come never more,
Never meet this side of haven
Meting you on that beautiful shore

Amazing Grace

John Newton (1725-1807)

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me.
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

When we've been here ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.

I Could not do Without Thee - Francis Ridley Havergal

I could not do without Thee
O Savior of the lost,
Whose precious blood redeemed me
At such tremendous cost.
Thy righteousness, thy pardon
Thy precious blood, must be
My only hope and comfort,
My glory and my plea.

I could not do without Thee,
I cannot stand alone,
I have no strength or goodness,
No wisdom of my own;
But Thou, beloved Savior,
Art all in all to me,
And weakness will be power
If leaning hard on Thee.
I could not do without Thee,
For, oh, the way is long,
And I am often weary,
And sigh replaces song:
How could I do without Thee?
I do not know the way;
Thou knowest, and Thou leadest,
And wilt not let me stray.

I could not do without Thee,
O Jesus, Savior dear;
E’en when my eyes are holden,
I know that Thou art near.
How dreary and how lonely
This changeful life would be,
Without the sweet communion,
The secret rest with Thee!

I could not do without Thee;
No other friend can read
The spirit’s strange deep longings,
Interpreting its need;
No human heart could enter
Each dim recess of mine,
And soothe, and hush, and calm it,
O blessèd Lord, but Thine.

I could not do without Thee,
For years are fleeting fast,
And soon in solemn oneness
The river must be passed;
But Thou wilt never leave me,
And though the waves roll high,
I know Thou wilt be near me,
And whisper, “It is I.”

Live Out Thy Life Within Me - Frances Ridley Havergal

Live out Thy life within me, O Jesus, King of kings!
Be Thou Thyself the answer to all my questionings;
Live out Thy life within me, in all things have Thy way!
I, the transparent medium, Thy glory to display.

The temple has been yielded, and purified of sin,
Let Thy Shekinah glory now shine forth from with within,
And all the earth keep silence, the body henceforth be
Thy silent, gentle servant, moved only as by Thee.

Its members every moment held subject to Thy call,
Ready to have Thee use them, or not be used at all,
Held without restless longing, or strain, or stress, or fret,
Or chafings at Thy dealings, or thoughts of vain regret.

But restful, calm and pliant, from bend and bias free,
Awaiting Thy decision, when Thou hast need of me.
Live out Thy life within me, O Jesus, King of kings!
Be Thou the glorious answer to all my questionings.

This lady is my new favorite hymn writer. Some of her pieces include "Take my life and let it be," "True-hearted, Whole-hearted," "Who is on the Lord's side?" and "Like a River Glorious."

We met a new brother today at a Indian house group I lead. He came to England to study, but life & fees are too expensive - he'll be returning to the Punjab soon. Our Punjabi hostess was eye trouble, so is unable to read, so Baljinder read his new Punjabi Bible. He will be baptised on Feb. 19 & will be going home to a hostile family, though his uncle is a believer.

We sang this hymn in English & Punjabi:

I have decided to follow Jesus (x3)
No turning back, no turning back.

Though none go with me, I still will follow (x3)
No turning back, no turning back.

The world behind me, the cross before me (x3)
No turning back, no turning back.

Indian Origin To Song - I Have Decided To Follow Jesus

You will find several sung versions on that link - though the only Indian version is Tamil, while we sing it in Hindi/Punjabi.

I don't know if Baljinder knew it before, but he found it very encouraging.

Most recently it was...

Blessed Assurance

vs.1
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine;
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

vs.2
Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending, bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

vs.3
Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
1873 Fanny J. Crosby

We enjoyed singing this last Sunday - led by my harmonium & specially for a Pakistani family newly arrived in England.
Psalm 96:1 Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.
3 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvellous deeds among all peoples.
4 For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens.
6 Splendour and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary.

Singable English is:
Come, sing a new song, sing now to Jesus;
Let all creation join in praise to Jesus.
