Yet we need preachers and teachers as Scripture says. When Phillip heard the Ethiopian eunuch reading Scripture and asked the man if he understood what he was reading his response was to ask how he could understand without someone to show him the meaning.

If we are saved we can learn some on our own (with the help of the Holy Ghost) but we are called to learn from preachers and teachers and those more mature in the faith than ourselves too.

This is one of the great dangers with things like Billy Graham style crusades where if a person is born again (praise God!) but then they are referred to a church which isn't sound, or even totally off, or that has a weak tea preacher, or a politically correct preacher, and ear tickling preacher or even an unsaved preacher, the poor babe in Christ will find themselves either malnourished or even poisoned.

Add on the fact of how many people in America attended public schools but have very poor reading, vocabulary and comprehension skills so personal Bible reading tends to be little and difficult for them. In some countries, many have little or no access to the Word themselves.

It can be very difficult for a babe in Christ to discern weak, poor or even false preachers.

Of course when it comes to the unsaved, it's no wonder they don't comprehend the Word themselves (if they even read it themselves) and are willing to accept what some preacher or "spiritual leaders" tells them, even to the point of murder and or suicide.

.

And not only that, they are even sent to the Catholics or Mormons; if they were raised in a faith, they will often be sent back to that "faith", even if its an outright cult, because these ecumenists don't even discern that far.

Another part of the prOBlem these days is the idea of all that's really important is getting them saved; by which most actually mean getting the lost to "make a decision".

This is part of that "easy believism", "1-2-3 repeat after me", "just say a 'sinners prayer' and you're in" type of "soul winning". Along with this is the unbiblical teaching that one can "get saved" and live like the devil, never showing one bit of evidence of salvation. This comes from the unbiblical practice of "soul winning" without calling sinners to repentance. They neglect the biblical admonition to repent and believe; choosing to present a very watered down message of this sort: "you want to go to heaven don't you? Well just say this simplistic 'sinners prayer' and then go on about your life and you'll be assured of heaven when you die".

All of this makes it easy to not be picky about what church a "decision maker" is sent to. After all, they've made a "decision", they are okay with God now, it doesn't matter if they sit in a Catholic church or your church, they will make it to heaven.

While so many today just want to count "decisions" and are willing to water down and sugar coat their simplistic message in order to get those "decisions" and claim many more followers of Christ; it's interesting to note Christ took a totally different approach. Christ pointed out the high cost of following Him. Christ called those following Him around out and made it clear following Him wasn't some easy thing but required true repentance of sin, a changed heart, a willingness for forsake everything for Christ.
