Members irishman
here is a poem that Dr. BOB Jones Sr. used to quote quite often. It is one of my favorites. I copied it from his biography, which is called "Builder of Bridges". Don't look so much at the style as the storyline:A Builder of Bridges An old man, traveling a lone highway, Came at the eventide cold and gray, To a chasm vast and deep and wide. The old man crossed in the twilight dim, The sullen stream held no fears for him, But he stopped when he reached the other side, And built a bridge to span the tide. “Old man”, said a fellow pilgrim near, “You are wasting your strength with building here; Your journey will end with the ending day, You never again will pass this way. You have crossed the chasm deep and wide, Why build you a bridge at eventide?” And the builder raised his old gray head, “Good friend, on the path I’ve come,” he said, “There followed after me today A youth whose feet will pass this way. This chasm, which has been as naught for me, To that fair-haired boy may a pitfall be; He too must cross in twilight dim-- Good friend, I build this bridge for him”. W.A.
